Inc.) and Denizbank was introduced at a press conference held at Istanbul Esma Sultan Waterside Mansion on March 10, Ahmet Paksoy, General Manager of IDO, and Hakan Ates, Chairman, Denizbank Financial Services Group, made a presentation relating to the Sea&Miles card to inform the members of the press and the guests from the industry. The protocol for the credit card project, which is the joint project of IDO, one of the affiliates of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and Denizbank, one of Turkey s major banks with continuously growing assets and resources, was signed at a ceremony attended by the Turkish Minister of Transport Binali Yildirim, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbas, Zorlu Holding Chairman of the Board Ahmet Zorlu, and Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Mesut Pektas. Stating that the project aims to increase the customer loyalty to IDO by 30 per cent, Ahmet Paksoy said, With the owned 87 ships, 67 million passengers carried annually, and 78 terminals, IDO has proven that it is a world company. In his speech, the Turkish Minister of Transport Binali Yildirim stated the sea transportation would gain speed as a result of this cooperation, and added that Actually, Turkey has discovered the sea beside Istanbul. Minister Yildirim pointed out to the fact that the Turkish maritime industry had not attained the expected position, but that the goal was to increase the use of the seas not only in Istanbul and Marmara Sea, but also on all coasts of the country. Saying that they would provide support to all kinds of projects aimed at solving the transportation problem in Istanbul, the Minister further said, Istanbul needs the new rail system, development of the sea transportation, a new bridge, as well as the tube crossing. However, it should be well noted that no projects can be implemented in this city, in spite of all the Istanbulians. Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbas said that the most important problem in Istanbul was the transportation, and that 200 new projects in addition to the 116 Projects initiative would solve the problem 070

The port will be operated by Kolin Insaat for a period of total of 29 years, 10 months and 8 days under the build-operate-transfer model. Otomotiv sektörüne yönelik yeni bir liman yat r m : Zeyport araba terminali sonunda devreye girecek proje kapsam nda y ll k 400 bin araç kapasitesine ulafl lmas hedefleniyor. Benzerleri dünyada car terminal olarak adland r lan bu limanlar, birçok ülkede milyonlarca araban n tafl ma altyap s - n n belkemi ini oluflturuyor. Zeyport da otomobil fabrikalar na en yak n noktadan yükleme yapabilmeyi sa layarak, Türkiye deki bu aç kapatmay hedefliyor. Yeniköy - Gölcük bölgesinde bafllat lan liman projesi, tamamland nda haftan n yedi günü 24 saat hizmet verecek. As for Zeyport, the terminal aims to fill this gap in Turkey by enabling the automobile plants to ship vehicles from the nearest point. Once the terminal project commenced in the Yenikoy-Golcuk region has been completed, it will provide 7/24 service. The terminal is being constructed in a location very near to the car manufacturers located particularly between Gebze and Adapazari. The company aims to provide services to exporters in Bursa and other regions as well. It is reported that total cost of the project would be around USD 22 million, and be funded with the company s own resources and through project financing. The name will change The terminal that will cover an area of approximately 15 hectares will have two quays, with lengths of 328 and 246 meters respectively, and a depth ranging between 10 and 12,5 meters. The quays will be convenient for the Car Carriers to berth. 4 hectares of the area is owned by the company and the remaining portion will be obtained through reclamation and hired from third parties. Due to the fact that the Istanbul Zeytinburnu Port at Marmara Sea is also called Zeyport, it is reported that the name of the terminal will be changed before it becomes operational. The project, whose development plan was approved in 2001, was transformed into a Car Terminal Project as a result of a design renewal in 2004, without a change in the plan. MEAK Chamber of Shipping I (DTO) had an important guest at its ordinary assembly for the month of March. In his speech he delivered at the assembly, Suleyman Demirel, the 9 th President of the Republic of Turkey, emphasized that everything was connected with and affected each other in this globalizing world, and that consequently we should not miss the information age we live in. Demirel said, This time we will not miss the information age. Important technological developments are expected and Turkey should secure its share in that. Turkey should not lose power anymore. However, regardless of their length, private boats used for non-commercial fishing purposes are excluded from the scope of the Regulations. The company holds the operating right of the Port of Antalya until The tender will be held on June 15 and information rooms will be open between May 8 and 28, 2006, for use by the interested investors. Both sealed bid and open auction methods will be used. Ortadogu Liman Isletmeleri A.S. had obtained the operating right of the Port of Antalya within the scope of the privatization for a period of 30 years back in Because Suha Suren had failed to repay the loans obtained from Sumerbank, the operating rights of the port were transferred to Hayyam Garipoglu. When the Sumerbank was seized by TMSF, the port was transferred back to the state. While it was being almost renationalized, some portion of the privatization amount was paid by TMSF. The Port of Antalya has m 2 of open and m 2 of covered stocking areas, meters of quays, and 9 meters of water depth. The briefing dealt with the services provided to vessels, possibilities to create more benefits for the country through bunker services at Turkish ports, and compliance with the relevant new rules. Deniz Eraydin, Chairman of the Association, stated that they aimed to make the Turkish ports the best supply ports in the region, and that it would be more productive if the stage of learning and applying the new rules is shared with the maritime-related authorities. In his speech, Eraydin said, Bunker is one of the characteristics of being a service establishment for ports and it is inevitable for the shipping companies. And activities such as supply of provisions and spare parts determine the limits of the services. Eraydin also emphasized that the importance and richness of our ports is not determined by the number of ships calling, but ships receiving services. Saying that a good port makes contributions to the political and commercial position of its region, Eraydin added that increase in the number of ships receiving bunker services would also increase the number of other services directly or indirectly.
