He promised that he would study. (Çalışacağına söz verdi.) They swore they had never seen him before. (Daha önce onu hiç görmediklerine yemin ettiler.) (Ertesi gün okula gideceğini söyledi.) Doğrudan konuşmadan bildirilen konuşmaya geçerken, zamirleri, fiillerin zamanlarını ve zaman ile yeri değiştirdiğimizden emin olmalıyız. Bildirici fiiller olarak "to tell" veya "to say" kelimesini kullanıyoruz. Doğrudan konuşmadan bildirilen konuşmaya geçerken genellikle aşağıdaki durumlarda haricinde kullanılır: He said to me, "I love you. (Bana, "Seni seviyorum" dedi.) He told me he loves me. (Beni sevdiğini söyledi.) Doğrudan Konuşmadaki Bildirici fiil said to olurken, bildirilen konuşmada told olarak değişir. Bildirici fiil geniş zamanda ise ("says", "tells"), bildirilen konuşmadaki fiiller doğrudan konuşmadaki fiillerle aynı zamanda kullanılır. E.g.) I don t know where to go! she says.
