TCDD chosed 25 KV AC, 50 Hz monophase catenary system for this line and for all the other lines that were turned into electrified lines. Until1995, 2274 km of the total network (21 %) was electrified. 17.06.2010 6/ 24
6- DIESEL ELECTRIC As electrical motors were started to be used İn railway vehicles, propulsion systems with diesel motor/alternators and DC electrical motors were also started to be used in diesel locomotives. Closely following this development in the world, TCDD purchased DE20000 type mainline locomotives from GE in 1957. After these developments, TCDD mostly preferred diesel electrical locomotives for mainlines and most of these locomotives were manufactured in the facilities of TÜLOMSAŞ under the license of the main producers. 17.06.2010 7/ 24
7- ASYNCHRONOUS PROPULSION SYSTEM One of the most important developments in the propulsion systems of railway vehicles is to use AC powered asynchronous traction motors. Applications of this system which was first executed starting from 1980s were closely followed by TCDD and DE11000 type locomotives some of which were equipped with this traction system were purchased in 1985 from KRAUSS MAFFEI/BBC. These locomotives had an advanced electronic control system and most of them were produced in TÜLOMSAŞ under the license of the manufacturer. Taking the widespread use of the propulsion systems with ac powered asynchronous traction motors into account, TCDD demanded this system for the YHT 65000 type high speed train sets which are purchased to be used between Ankara-İstanbul and for the E23000 type suburban emus which are purchased to be operated between Sincan-Kayaş. 17.06.2010 8/ 24
8- HIGH SPEED TRAIN OPERATION The first HST operation in Turkish Railways has started on March 13th, 2009 on the 247 km HSL between Ankara-Eskişehir and 1.5 million passengers have been carried up to now.
