50 MILLION YEARS OLD STORY OF EFLANI LIMESTONE RUSTIC GREEN The story is based on geologic surveys which started on late 19th century at the western parts of the Black Sea region. Now, these surveys are carried out by MTA (Public Organization for Mine Exploration) at around the Karabük region. Township of Eflani, which is neighboring Safranbolu town, and is 47 Km. away from the city centre of Karabük; is located among the high mountains and valleys. Having a rich flora, Eflani is surrounded by forests, and rich marble stratum some of which are being exported. HP Marble had been operational in Eflani region since 1999. The limestone stratum of HP Marble s Rustic Green quarry is spread over a large area. After geologic studies, it was determined that these limestone precipitated during the Eosen period about 33 to 50 Million year ago. The lowest level stratum presents a limestone of dark grey color with clay and sand. Over this layer, lies the stratum of light grey beige and khaki-green limestone that is extracted. Trapped in the limestone that is extracted by HP Marble are the fossils of primitive living creatures named as Nummulites, Alveolina and Coral. These fossils have various dimensions ranging from as small as a water droplet to the size of a palm of the hand. The fossils can be distinguished in detail especially when the stone is polished after being cut. Some other surface finishing processes like flaming or acid washing, causes some of the fossils to protrude, as if they have come out through a time machine. The rich fossil content and the formation geometry suggests that the Eflani limestone precipitated at sea and reef environment, Nummulites Alveolina Coral not at lake environment like most of the other limestone samples. The high pressures of the sea environment are the reason why Eflani limestone has a relatively higher strength and durability compared to the other limestone. Another characteristic of Eflani limestone that is acquired from the same sea environment is the common uniformity of the stone. Due to this uniformity, the stone can be processed in relatively larger dimensions. The line up of the texture and the structural orientation presents some precipitation marks what is called as veins in the marble market, but these may also be interpreted as wave marks of the sea environment. Eflani limestone, having been formed millions of years ago at the lively reef and sea environment are decorating the buildings of today; contributing to the lives and values of the residences with its unmatched physical characteristics, style, aesthetics, and living stories. HP Marble has two main groups of color selection of this Eflani limestone, which are called Rustic Green and Turquoise. Based on this selection, the surface finishing applications are utilized as below: Polishing (Turquoise, Rustic Green) Flaming (Turquoise) Bush hammering (Rustic Green) Sand blasting (Rustic Green) Tumbling (Rustic Green, Turquoise) Brushing (Turquoise, Rustic Green) In addition to the above applications, there is a different product where the cutting direction of the slabs is perpendicular to the veins. When cut like this (vein cut), The veins are visible, and the fossils are oriented in a different way.
HP MARBLE s HISTORY The mother company, HÜKMÜ PEKER CONSTRUCTION, TRADE and INDUSTRY INC. had been active in the building and construction business since 1978 as one of the prominent companies in this business sector in Turkey. When it was decided to invest in the natural stone business, the company had all the experience and knowledge about the requirements of construction and building as far as natural stones are concerned. Aiming for the best in providing the required materials and service, the HP MARBLE was established in 1999. A marble processing factory was established with only the best available machinery, and ample space for the quality in work. Initially, HP MARBLE had quarries in Sivrihisar and Haymana, but later operations were stopped due to inefficiency of these quarries. Just around the same time, the quarry of Rustic Green was attained. Rustic Green or Turquoise were new material, unknown by the world markets then. However, by consistent efforts for good quality production and service, these material are known and used in about 30 countries in 5 continents today. In line with the increased demand, a second marble processing factory has been operating at the Rustic Green quarry site since 2008. These strips are either transported to our processing plant in Ankara for surface finishing, or sold directly to the customers as raw material. 34

ANKARA PROCESSING PLANT Located at Temelli Ankara, the main processing plant was established over a land of 33.500 m 2 where 6500 m 2 of it is an enclosed space. The total production capacity in terms of thin tiles and slabs is over 300.000 m 2. The top of the range and Italian made processing machinery are utilized. The tile line is a high capacity one, and therefore it can produce large quantity of tiles in very good quality. The slab line has two gang saws, resin line, slab polishing line, flaming / bush hammering / sand blasting machine, two of bridge cutting machines which are used for cut to size orders as well as for producing profiles. Additional auxiliary machinery like edge polishing, kitchen counter producing machines, etc. complete the range to enable us to quote for most of the project works. 36
