Ülkemizde de tatile çıkanların sayısı her geçen yıl hızla artıyor. Buna rağmen, tatile çıkma alışkanlığının yeterince yaygınlaştığını henüz söyleyemeyiz. Tatil zorunlu bir ihtiyaç, ama öte yandan bir imkân meselesidir. Dileriz ülkemiz en kısa zamanda herkesin tatil hakkını kullanabileceği bir refah düzeyine kavuşur. Ancak imkânı olanlar arasında da tatile çıkma alışkanlığının henüz büyük ölçüde yaygınlaşmadığı bir gerçektir. Dar-orta gelirli ve bütçeleri sınırlı olanlar için mümkün olduğu kadar uygun tatil seçeneklerinin sunumu yönünde çaba sarf etmek de, konunun üzerinde durulması gereken bir diğer yönüdür. Bu açılardan tatillerin özendirilmesi, yaygınlaştırılması ve bu doğrultuda vatandaşlarımıza, koşulların elverdiği ölçüde uygun tatil imkânlarının sunumu büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu bağlamda, Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı, THY, TÜRSAB ve TÜROFED işbirliği ile, iç turizmi canlandırmak ve erken rezervasyon alışkanlığını kazandırmak amaçları ile Rezervasyon Baharı temalı bir İç Turizm Geliştirme Şenliği düzenlenmektedir. Söz konusu kampanya çerçevesinde, vatandaşlarımıza 4 Mayıs-8 Haziran tarihleri arasında erken rezervasyon yaptırın, inanılmaz indirim ve ödeme kolaylıklarından yararlanın. Ayrıntılı bilgi için seyahat acentenizi arayın mesajı iletilmektedir. Ülkemizde iç turizmin ve tatil imkânlarının geliştirilmesi doğrultusunda atılan bu önemli adımın, ilgili tüm kurum ve kuruluşlar, tüm meslektaşlarımız ve herkes tarafından desteklenmesi ve yeni atılımlara zemin hazırlayacak başarılarla sonuçlanması dileklerimle Haydi hep birlikte Rezervasyon Baharı na: İç turizm şenliğinde buluşalım. BAŞARAN ULUSOY TÜRSAB Başkan The President of TÜRSAB The holiday is a necessity; it s one of the prerequisites of a healthy life; it s deemed as a right in all developed, modern societies. In our country, the number of those going to holiday rises rapidly every year. However, we cannot say yet that the holiday making is a common habit. The holiday is a necessity but it s a matter of means. I hope our country can reach in a short time a standard of income high enough so that every one can go on holiday. However, it s true that holiday making didn t become yet a widespread habit even among those enjoying a high level of income. Working to offer affordable holiday alternatives to those with low and mid income level and limited budget is another aspect of this subject necessitating to be underlined. In this regard, it s very important to encourage people to make holiday, to spread holiday habits and to offer varied holiday opportunities as much as possible. In this context, a Festival to Develop the Domestic Tourism based on the theme of Reservation Spring with a cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish Airlines, TÜRSAB and TÜROFED to revive the domestic tourism and to help early reservation system becomes widespread. Within the framework of the said campaign, our citizens are given the following message: Make early reservation between May 4- June 8 and take advantage of incredible discounts and payment facilities. The number of visitors traveling from this country to Turkey between rose at a record rate of 386 per cent Dünyanın en önemli gaz ve petrol rezervlerine sahip ülkesi olan Kazakistan ın ekonomisinde, enerji sektöründeki gelişmeler, ekonomik reformlar ve artan yabancı yatırımı sayesinde yılları arasında yıllık %8 düzeyinde bir büyüme gerçekleşti. Bu büyümenin yansımalarından biri, kişi başına düşen milli gelirde yaşanan artışa bağlı olarak seyahat edenlerin sayısında gözlenen yükselme. Dünya Turizm Örgütü verilerine göre Kazakistan da 2003 yılında 2 milyon 300 bin kişi yurtdışına seyahat ederken, 2006 yılında The economy of Kazakhstan, owning one of the largest natural gas and oil reserves in the world, achieved an annual growth of 8 per cent between thanks to the developments in the energy sector, economic reforms and increasing foreign investment. This growth brought rise in the number of travelers thanks to per capita income rise. 4 bu sayı 3 milyon 800 binlere ulaştı. Ancak, petrol fiyatlarında meydana gelen düşüş ve dünya ekonomisinde yaşanan global kriz nedeniyle ülke ekonomisi 2008 yılında geçmiş yıllardaki performansını yakalayamadı ve büyüme hızı %5 e geriledi. Bunun sonucunda kişi başına düşen milli gelirde meydana gelen gerilemeyle birlikte yurtdışına yapılan seyahatlerde de azalma yaşandı. Nitekim Türkiye ye gelişlerde Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı sınır istatistikleri bu yılın ocak-şubat döneminde bir önceki yılın aynı dönemine göre %1,56 oranında bir gerilemenin söz konusu olduğunu gösterdi. Bununla birlikte, önümüzdeki aylarda yeniden yükselişe geçileceği yönünde bir görüş mevcut; çünkü Türkiye ye gelen Kazak tüketiciler genelde yüksek gelirli kesimden ve bu segment ekonomik krizden çok da fazla etkilenmiyor. Farklı destinasyonlar tanıtılabilir Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı nın 2006 yılı konaklama istatistikleri Kazak vatandaşlarının %45,6 sının İstanbul da, %43,2 sinin de Antalya da konaklamayı tercih ettiğini gösteriyor; diğer şehir ve bölgelerin bu alandaki payı oldukça az. Kazakistan da hizmet veren TÜRSAB üyesi bazı seyahat acentelerine göre, Kazakların Türkiye konusundaki bilgisi sınırlı. Bu nedenle de genellikle aynı destinasyon ya da ürünleri tercih ediyorlar. Kazakistan dan Türkiye ye gelenlerin sayısının gittikçe arttığına dikkat çeken acenteler, bu sayının daha da yükselebileceğini, ancak bunun için devlet destekli ve pazar odaklı tanıtımın gerekli olduğunu belirtiyor. Ayrıca seyahat acentelerinin bireysel çabalarıyla Türkiye pazarında bu noktaya gelen ve rakip ülkelere bırakılmayacak kadar önemli olan Kazakistan pazarının çok daha ciddi çalışmalara ihtiyaç duyduğu ifade ediliyor. Kazaklar lüksü seviyor Tercihlerini genellikle beş yıldızlı otellerden ve her şey dahil konaklamadan yana kullanan Kazak müşteri, sadece konakladığı otelle sınırlı kalmayı sevmiyor. As a result, the travels to foreign countries decreased along with per capita income decline. Indeed, the border statistics of the Ministry of Tourism show 1,56 per cent decline between January-February compared with the same period in the past year. However, it s anticipated to rise again in the months ahead; because the Kazakh consumers visiting Turkey compose the portion with higher income and this segment is more or less immune to the crisis. The agencies point out that the number of those coming from Kazakhstan to Turkey keeps rising regularly; this number may rise further but a state-sponsored and market-focused promotion is a must for it, they say. The tourism authorities also mention, the market of Kazakhstan, which caught this high level in the Turkish market thanks to the individual efforts of the Turkish travel agencies and important enough not to be left to be seized by the rival countries, need more serious works and undertakings. 5 alışverişten ve gezintiden büyük keyif alıyor. Diğer BDT ülkelerinin vatandaşlarından daha fazla harcama yapıyor, konaklama dışında lüks yeme-içme, eğlence, ulaştırma gibi hizmetlere de ihtiyaç duyuyorlar; dolayısıyla bu beklentilere cevap verebilecek çalışmaların da öngörülmesi gerekiyor. Bu pazara yönelik olarak dile getirilen sorunların en önemlilerinden biri ulaştırma. Tarifeli uçak seferlerinin yeterli düzeyde olmamasının sıkıntı yarattığını belirten acenteler, THY nin Kazakistan-Türkiye tarifeli uçuşlarının artırılmasının iki ülke arasındaki turizm ilişkilerini geliştireceğini ifade ediyor. Kazakistan turizm endüstrisi 2006 yılına kadar Kazakistan da turizm faaliyetleri Sağlık, Kültür ve Eğitim Bakanlığı na bağlı Turizm Komitesi nce yürütülüyordu; aynı yıl Kazakistan Turizm ve Spor Bakanlığı nın kurulmasıyla sektör bu bakanlığa bağlanmış oldu. Kazakistan da turizm faaliyetlerini hukuki bir zemine oturtmak amacıyla 1992 yılında çıkarılan yasa, bu alandaki ekonomik, sosyal ve organizasyonel bütün aktiviteleri kapsıyor. Bu yasaya eşlik eden çok sayıda kararname arasında turizm lisanslarına yönelik olanlar da mevcut. Kazakistan Cumhuriyeti 1993 yılında turizm endüstrisinin geliştirilmesi amacıyla bir ulusal program oluşturmuş; 1997 de ise 2030 yılına kadar uzanan bir turizm stratejisi geliştirilmiş. Kazakistan turizminin ülke GSMH sine katkısı %5 düzeyinde. Bununla birlikte Euromonitor adlı araştırma kuruluşundan verilen bilgiye göre, turizm hareketlerine gaz ve petrol endüstrisi yön veriyor. Ülkeye gelenlerin büyük bir çoğunluğunu bu alanda yatırım yapmak isteyen yabancı işadamları oluşturuyor. Bu nedenle de son yıllarda gerek ulaştırma gerekse konaklama sektörü yatırımlarında ciddi gelişmeler söz konusu. Kazakistan ın önemli turizm organlarından biri olan Kazak Turist Birliği (Kazakhstan Tourist Kazakhs like luxury Kazakh customers preferring in general 5-star hotels and all included accomodation don t like to be limited with the hotels where they stay. Kazakh tourists generally consisting of families with two children and feeling themselves close to Turkey because of the similarities between the two cultures, get pleasure from shopping and journeys. Kazakhs spending more compared to the other CIS countries, require also luxurious foods, entertainment and transportation; therefore, the works meeting these expectations should be anticipated. One of the main problems in this market concerns transportation. The number of scheduled flights fails to meet the demand and therefore, the increase of scheduled flights of Turkish Airlines between Kazakhstan- Turkey will help developing the tourism relations between the two countries. Kazakhstan tourism industry Until 2006, the tourism activities of Kazakhstan were conducted by the Tourism Committee associated with the Ministry of Health, Culture and Education; the same year, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan was set up and the sector was associated with the ministry. The law introduced in 1992 to bring the tourism of Kazakhstan on a legal ground contains all economic, social and organizational activities in this area. Among many decrees attached to this law, there are those related to the tourism licenses too. The Republic of Kazakhstan set Dendropark, Almatı a national programme in 1993 to develop the tourism industry; and in 1997, a tourism strategy extending to 2030 was developed in The contribution of the Kazakhstan tourism to GDP is around 5 per cent. However, the research institution Euromonitor informs that the oil and natural gas industry orients the tourism movements. The majority of the visitors coming to the country consist of foreign businessmen willing to invest in this area. Therefore, a significant progress was made both in transportation and accommodation in recent years. Kazakhstan Tourist Assocation (KTA), one of the leading tourism bodies of Kazakhstan, is a non profit organisation founded in The Association of Hotels and Restaurants, tour operators, Almatı Association/KTA), 1999 yılında kurulan ve kâr amacı gütmeyen bir kuruluş. Kazakistan Otel ve Restoranlar Birliği (KAGIR), tur operatörleri, sigorta şirketleri, havayolları, üniversiteler ve bazı medya kuruluşları KTA nın üyeleri arasında. Turizm göstergeleri Dünya Turizm Örgütü nden alınan bilgiye göre 2006 yılında 4 milyon 707 bin kişi Kazakistan ı ziyaret etmiş. Söz konusu yılda elde edilen turizm geliri ise 973 milyon dolar düzeyinde. Kazakistan ekonomisinde son yıllarda yaşanan olumlu gelişmeler, Kazakların yurtdışı seyahat tercihinde artış yarattı yılında 2 milyon 374 bin kişi yurtdışına seyahat etmişken bu sayı 2006 yılında 3 milyon 688 bine ulaştı. Kazakistan ın yatak kapasitesinde de yılları arasında ciddi gelişmeler olduğu dikkat çekiyor yılı verilerine göre ülkede yatak kapasitesi 46 bine ulaşmış durumda. Önemli turizm merkezleri Güney Kazakistan da yer alan Almatı ve Kızılorda, ülkenin önemli tarih ve kültür merkezleri. Ahmet Yesevi Türbesi, yetmiş yıl boyunca ülkeye başkentlik etmiş olan Almatı şehrinin en önemli eserlerinden. Ünlü İpek Yolu üzerinde yer alan Taraz ise turizm yönünden çok zengin. Taraz da çok sayıda arkeolojik ve tarihi eser görmek mümkün. Avcılık, kayak ve dağcılık bölgenin önemli turistik aktivitelerinden. Batı Kazakistan su sporlarıyla ünlüyken, Kuzey Kazakistan sağlık turizmine yönelik çok sayıda tesis barındırıyor. Kazakistan ile ticari ilişkiler Kazakistan, Orta Asya Türk Cumhuriyetleri içinde Türkiye nin en fazla yatırımının bulunduğu ülke; 2004 yılı verilerine göre mevcut yatırım 92,1 milyon dolar düzeyinde. DEİK ten alınan bilgiler ülkede yaklaşık 250 Türk sermayeli şirketin faaliyet gösterdiği yönünde. Bunların insurance companies, airlines, universities and some media corporations are among the members of KTA. Indicators of tourism According to the informations got from the World Tourism Organisation, 4 million 707 thousand persons visited Kazakhstan in The same year, the annual tourism income obtained was 973 million dollars. The positive developments in the economy of Kazakhstan encouraged people to travel abroad. In 2003, 2 million 374 thousand people traveled abroad whereas this figure was 3 million 688 thousand in The bed capacity of Kazakhstan improved significantly between The figures in 2008 indicate the bed capacity rose to 46 thousands in the country. Principal tourism centers Almatı and Kızılorda situated in the South Kazakhstan are the leading historical and culture centers in the country. The Mausoleum of Ahmet Yesevi is one the most important works in the city of Almatı, the capital city of the country since 70 years. Taraz located on the famous Silk Road is very rich from the point of tourism attractions. One can encounter many archaeological and historical works in Taraz. Hunting, ski and alpinism are the most important tourism activities in the region. While the West Kazakhstan is known with its water sports, the North Kazakhstan owns many facilities for the health tourism. Commercial relations with Kazakhstan Among the Central Asia Turk Republics, Kazakhstan is the country where Turkey is the top investor; according to the figures in 2004, the current investment amount is about 92,1 million dollars. The figures of Foreign Economic Relations Board indicate some 250 companies with the Turkish investment operate in the country. 6 %70 ini tamamen Türk sermayeli şirketler oluşturuyorken, %25 i Kazak firmalarıyla, diğer %5 i ise çokuluslu şirketlerle ortaklıklar şeklinde. Ülkedeki Türk sermayesinin %90 ı 12 büyük şirkete, geri kalanları ağırlıklı olarak KOBİ lere ait. Çeşitli kaynaklardan elde edilen verilere göre hizmet sektörünün %50 sinde Türk sermayeli kuruluşlar yer tutuyor. Petrol, telekomünikasyon, otel işletmeciliği, eğitim ve bankacılık toplam sermaye stokunun %80-90 ını oluşturuyor. DEİK Kazakistan Bülteni nde yer alan bilgiye göre Türk firmalarının Kazakistan da tamamladığı başlıca projeler şunlar: Astana Uluslararası Havaalanı, Parlamento Binası, Cumhurbaşkanlığı konutu, Intercontinental Almatı, Okan Intercontinental Astana, Çocuk Rehabilitasyon Merkezi, Ulusal Müze, Devlet Konukevi, Ahmet Yesevi Üniversitesi, Astana Kız Kuleleri, GSM telekomünikasyon altyapısı, Tengiz-Novorossisk boru hattının Kazakistan daki bölümü, alışveriş merkezleri, karayolları ve fabrikalar. 25 per cent are partnerships with Kazakhs and the other 5 per cent include partnerships with the multinational companies. 90 per cent of the Turkish capital in the country are owned by the twelve big companies and the remaining part belongs to the small and mid size enterprises. The data obtained from several sources show that 50 per cent of the service sector consist of the companies with the Turkish capital. The oil, telecommunication, hotel business, education and banking compose per cent of the total capital stock. According to the informations in the Kazakhstan Bulletin of Foreign Economic Relations Board, the main projects completed by the Turkish companies in Kazakhstan are as follow: The International Airport of Astana, the Parliament Building, the Presidency Residence, Intercontinental Almata, Okan Intercontinental Astana, the Child Rehabilitation Center, the National Museum, the State Guesthouse, Ahmet Yesevi University, Astana Towers, GSM Telecommunication Infrastructure, the portion of Tengiz-Novorossisk pipeline in Kazakhstan, shopping centers, land routes and factories. 7 TARİH history HER DEVRİN RÜYASI Bir ruh kadar eski İstanbul, tarihinin her döneminde bir cazibe merkeziydi. Farklı hükümdarlar tarafından defalarca kuşatıldı, ele geçirilmeye çalışıldı. Fatih Sultan Mehmet tarafından Osmanlı topraklarına katıldığında ise bir çağı kapatıp yeni bir çağ açtı 2 Nihal Boztekin ALL TIME DREAM İstanbul, as much old as the soul, used to be a lure throughout centuries. 8 İstanbul un ele geçirilmesi birçok devlet için olduğu gibi Osmanlı Devleti için de önemli hedeflerden biriydi; hatta bir imparatorluk olma yolunda coğrafi, siyasi ve ekonomik açıdan neredeyse bir zorunluluktu. Nitekim şehri kuşatma fikri daha Orhan Bey zamanında gündeme gelmişti; ancak Orhan Bey ve daha sonra da yine aynı niyetteki I. Murat henüz fiili bir kuşatmayı gerçekleştirecek güce erişememişti. Osmanlılar bu gücü kendilerinde ilk defa I. Bayezit zamanında buldu ve bu dönemde şehir iki kez kuşatıldı. Bu kuşatmalar sırasında I. Bayezit in zihninde belki de bir yandan Beylerbeyi Kara Timurtaş ın şu sözleri yankılanıyordu: Hey devletlû sultanum, bize vacibdürkim, evvel İstanbul un üzerüne düşeyüz... [İstanbul u öncelikli meselemiz haline getirmek bizim için bir zorunluluktur.] Başarıyla sonuçlanamayan bu kuşatmalardan sonra I. Bayezit in oğlu Musa Çelebi ve II. Murat tarafından birer kez kuşatılan İstanbul, en sonunda 1453 te II. Mehmet tarafından ele geçirildi. Fatih tarih sahnesinde Babası II. Murat ın Cümle tac u tahtımı ve unvanımı fi l-cümle oğluma verdim sözleriyle omuzlarına yüklediği sorumluluğu aldığında II. Mehmet henüz 12 yaşındaydı; ancak oturduğu tahtta çok fazla kalamadı, zira acil kararlar alınması gereken bir savaş ortamı söz konusuydu ve devlet adamlarının kanaati II. Murat ın tahta dönmesinin doğru olacağı yönündeydi. Bu karar uygulamaya geçirildi: 1446 yılında genç Mehmet küçük bir Anadolu sancağını yönetmeye gönderilirken, babası da sultan unvanını resmen yeniden üstlendi. II. Mehmet gönderildiği Manisa da bir yandan resmi görevini sürdürüyor, bir yandan da Arapça ve Farsça yı mükemmelen öğreniyor, Latince, Yunanca, Sırpça çalışıyordu. Zaten çocukluğunu geçirdiği Edirne de de, askerlik ve siyasete olduğu kadar ilim ve tasavvufa da meraklı babasının denetiminde sıkı bir eğitime tabi tutulmuş, dönemin en ünlü bilginlerinden dersler almıştı. Ancak, Manisa da geçirilen verimli günler, Edirne deki saraydan gelen bir haber üzerine sona erdi. II. Mehmet, 1451 yılında babasının ölümü üzerine, yedi yıl önce bıraktığı Osmanlı tahtına yeniden oturdu. Artık 19 yaşında bir genç adamdı. İstanbul rüyaları Mehmet, tahta geçer geçmez kendini savaş ve antlaşmaların ortasında buldu; bir yandan memlekette dirlik düzenliği Tarihi surlardan görüntüler Views from the historical city walls The capture of İstanbul had been one of the main focus points of the Ottomans until the era of Fatih Sultan Mehmet or Mehmed II, as he was named before the conquest; furthermore, it was almost a must geographically, politically and economically for this state in the course of becoming an empire. Indeed, the capture of the city was on the agenda back to the time of Orhan Bey; however, neither Orhan Bey nor Murad I who came to throne later and turned the same idea over in his mind had the power to besiege the city. The Ottomans made attempts in this regard for the first time during the era of Bayezid I. and the city was besieged two times during his rule. During these sieges, the following words of Beylerbeyi (Ottoman officer) Kara Timurtaş might have echoed in the mind of Bayezid I: It s an obligation for us to make İstanbul our top priority. After these failed attempts of siege, İstanbul besieged respectively by Musa Çelebi, son of Bayezid I and then by Murad II was finally captured by Mehmed II in Fatih on the stage of history When his father Murad II handed over the throne, his son Mehmed II was merely 12 years old. However, Mehmed had to quit soon after his ascendance to the throne since a war atmosphere was reigning and decisions should have been taken urgently; therefore, Sadrazam (Grand Vizier) Çandarlı Halil persuaded him to return to the throne. Two years later in 1446, while the young Mehmed was sent to a small Anatolian province to govern it, his father officially got back the title of Sultan. In Manisa where Mehmed was sent, on one hand he assumed the task of governing the province and on the other, he was learning perfectly Arabic and Persian languages and he was working on Latin, Greek and Serbian languages. In Edirne where he spent his childhood, he had already received a good education under the supervision of his father who took interest in science and Sufism too besides military instruction and politics and he was educated by the prominent scientific men in that era. However, these productive days ended up after a news arrived from the palace in Edirne reporting the death of his father in 1451 and Mehmed II ascended to the Ottoman throne again which he had to leave seven years ago. He was now a 19-year-old young man. Dreams of İstanbul From the very first day of his ruling, Mehmed had to tackle the issue of war and treaties; on one hand, he was working to bring stability to the Ottoman territories and on the other hand, he was planning to annex İstanbul to the Ottoman territories, a project being his essential dream. Sefer hazırlıkları Geçici olarak tahttan indirildiği dönemde II. Mehmet, babasının ordusunun Hıristiyan kadırgalarına karşı koyarak Boğaz ı geçişine tanıklık etmişti. Demek ki burası şehrin kuşatılmasında önemli bir zemin olabilirdi. Bu düşünceyle, Boğaz da var olan Anadolu Hisarı nın karşısına Rumeli Hisarı nı inşa ettirdi ve yapının kuvvetli toplarla donatılmasını sağladı. Bir yandan da gerekli durumda kullanılmak üzere Gelibolu dan savaş ve nakliye gemileri getiriliyordu. Şimdi Mehmet, hazırlıkları tamamlamak üzere Edirne deki sarayına dönebilirdi. Aya Sofya Kilisesi, İstanbul un fethinin ardından Fatih in emriyle camiye dönüştürüldü ve fetihten sonraki ilk cuma namazı burada kılındı St. Sophie Church was transformed to a mosque with the order of Fatih Sultan Mehmed after the conquest of İstanbul and the first Friday prayer was made here too he used to consult regularly agreed the time has come for it. On the other hand, Constantinos IX, emperor of Byzantium too had seen the obvious danger and launched the preparations at his front; he stepped up his preparations to repair the city walls. The same days, for the Pope in Rome, this chaotic environment was an opportunity to join the Greek Orthodox Church with the Roman Catholic Church. The Byzantine Emperor held a religious ceremony of unification at Hagia Sophia Church and the leaders of the Orthodox Church agreed on a Decree of Unification. The Pope sent three big Genoese ships full of arsenal and provisions to the city but the ships were stuck at Chios Island because of the storm. Meanwhile, Mehmed II, who had received an offer of conciliation from Constantinos IX. continued to share the conquest plans with the statesmen in his court; he was stating with the following words the necessity of making İstanbul an Ottoman city: Constantinople, remaining in the middle of our territories, protects our enemies and provokes them against us. 9 Bu arada, bu açık tehlikeyi gören Bizans İmparatoru IX. Konstantinos da kendi cephesindeki hazırlıklara başlamış, şehir surlarının tamirat çalışmalarını hızlandırmıştı. Aynı günlerde Roma da Papa, bu kargaşa ortamını Rum Ortodoks Kilisesi nin Roma Katolik Kilisesi yle birleşmesinin sağlanması için bir fırsat olarak görüyordu. Bu öneriyi dikkate alan Bizans İmparatoru, Ayasofya Kilisesi nde bir birleşme ayini düzenledi ve Ortodoks Kilisesi nin önderleri bir Birlik Kararnamesi üstünde anlaştı. Bunun üzerine Papa, silah ve erzak dolu üç büyük Ceneviz gemisini şehre gönderdi, ancak gemiler şiddetli fırtınadan dolayı Sakız Adas nda mahsur kaldı. Aynı günlerde II. Mehmet ise etrafına topladığı devlet adamlarıyla fetih planlarını paylaşmaya devam ediyor, İstanbul un artık bir Osmanlı şehri olması gerektiğini şöyle dile getiriyordu: Mülklerimizin orta yerinde duran Konstantiniyye, düşmanlarımızı koruyup bize karşı kışkırtıyor. Dolayısıyla bu kentin fethi Osmanlı Devleti nin geleceği ve güvenliği için zaruridir. Şehir Osmanlıların Nihayet 23 Mart 1453 günü II. Mehmet Edirne den İstanbul a doğru yola çıktı. Bu arada Bizans İmparatoru na bir elçi göndererek şehri terk etmesini salık verdi, ancak ret cevabıyla karşılaştı. Bir yandan hazırlıklar hızla devam ediyordu. Bütün önlemler alındı, gerekli planlar yapıldı ve nihayet, kendini tümüyle hazır hisseden Osmanlı ordusu şehri fiilen kuşattı. Uzun çarpışmalar, sonucunu verdi: 29 Mayıs günü geldiğinde İstanbul ele geçirilmişti. Zaferin kesinleşmesinin ardından II. Mehmet, at sırtında Topkapı dan şehre girip doğrudan Ayasofya ya gitti. İlk yaptığı, halka can ve mal güvenliği teminatı vererek mevcut kargaşayı dindirmekti. Ardından, şehrin en önemli simgelerinden Ayasofya nın bir camiye dönüştürülmesine karar verdi ve hazırlıklar başladı. 1 Haziran günü, artık bir cami olan mekânda ilk cuma namazı kılındı ve bundan böyle Fatih sıfatıyla anılacak olan sultan adına hutbe okundu. Bir imparatorluktan diğerine İstanbul un fethi her cephede derin etkiler yarattı. Öncelikle, artık Osmanlı İmparatorluğu nun başkenti olan şehrin kalkınması yönünde yoğun çalışmalar başladı: Surlar onarıldı, yeni bir saray, bir darüşşifa [tıp merkezi], büyük bir medrese, yeniçeriler için iki kışla ve bir top dökümhanesini içeren büyük bir inşaat programına girişildi. Fethin sağladığı toprak bütünlüğüyle artık eli iyice güçlenen imparatorluğun, dünyadaki itibarı arttı. Karadeniz- Akdeniz ticaret yolunun denetiminin ele geçirilmesi de ekonomik alanda önemli gelişmelere imkân tanıdı. İmparatorluk artık yükselme devrindeydi. Osmanlı toprakları bu olumlu gelişmeleri yaşarken kadim Doğu Roma İmparatorluğu tarihe karışıyor, bir çağ kapanıyordu. The famous mathematician and astronomer Ali Kuşçu at the presence of Fatih Sultan Mehmet The city captured by the Ottomans Finally, he started his expedition from Edirne to İstanbul on March 23, He sent his proposal with a representative to the Byzantine emperor asking him to quit the city but his Byzantine homologue rejected the proposal. The preparations were full speed ahead. The Byzantine soldiers were surprised to see the ships carried over greased logs at night from the land to the Golden Horn to build pressure from the Golden Horn. At the end of long battles, the Ottoman army seized the city and Mehmed, on a horse, entered to the city from Topkapi and went directly to Hagia Sophia; with the lines of the poet Faruk Nafiz, the Sultan had entered to the climate he conquered like a disciple and that day, he brought the civilized conquest to the world. His first and foremost attempt was to stop the chaos and to ensure life and goods safety. Then, he decided to turn Hagia Sophia, one of the most important symbols of the city, into a mosque and the preparations started accordingly. On June 1st, the first Friday prayer was made in the edifice turned into a mosque and sermon was delivered for the Sultan who was henceforth called Fatih (the Conqueror). From one empire to the other The conquest of İstanbul had deep impacts on various areas. First, a wide range of works were launched to develop İstanbul, declared the capital city of the Ottoman empire: The walls were repaired, a new palace, health center, a big madrasah (muslim theological school) and an ambitious construction project including two barracks for the janissaries and one cannon foundry was launched. The empire gaining a high power after the conquest raised its prestige over the world. The seizure of the trade road between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean paved the way for significant economic developments. The rise began for the empire. As the Ottoman territories witnessed these positive developments, the ancient East Roman Empire collapsed and an epoch ended. Tur Abdin, Mezopotamya daki tarihleri 4 bin yılı bulan Süryanilerin bu topraklardaki ana yurdunun adı. Tur Abdin in bir bölümü olan Mardin-Midyat- Nusaybin üçgenindeki Süryani yapıları görülmeye değer. Bunların en önemlileri tabii ki Deyrülzafaran ile Deyrulumur (Mor Gabriel). Her ikisi de 4. yüzyıldan bu yana Süryanilere hizmet veriyor ve herkes tarafından ziyaret edilebiliyor. Masallar arası abbara lar Mardin in büyüsüne mimarlarının katkısı büyük. Kentin mimarisi, sokaklarını bitmeyen sürprizlerle donatıyor. Abbara denen daracık tüneller yolunuzu sokaktan sokağa, evden eve, odadan odaya taşıyor. Hangi abbaraya girerseniz girin, ardınızda kalan ışıkla birlikte zaman da yok oluyor, gizemli tüneller sizi dilediğiniz döneme, özlediğiniz masala bağlıyor. Yıldızların altında Kentin sarı taşlardan örülmüş teras teras yükselen evleri birbirine saygılı; hiçbiri bir diğerinin manzarasını bozmuyor, ki Mezopotamya gözlerden saklı kalmasın. Sıcaktan ve akreplerden korunmanın yolu, geceleri evlerin teraslarına kurulu taht larda yatmaktan geçiyor. Sıcak yaz gecelerinde yıldızlara sarılıp uyumak da cabası... Mosques and churches are situated within each other; you hear simultaneously Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic languages, you get acquainted with the colorful face of the cultural richness. Not only in the town center but also at every corner of the villages, you come across with a beautiful edifice standing there quietly since centuries. Ulu Camii (Great Mosque), indispensable for the photos of Mardin, symbolizes the religions, cultures living here through its secret patterns. There are too many madrasahs, mausoleums, dervish lodges, mosques, monasteries and churches. Tur Abdin is the name of the motherland of Syriacs, whose history dates back to 4 thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, on these lands. The edifices from the time of Syriacs on the triangle of Mardin-Midyat- Nusaybin, one part of Tur Abdin, are worth to be seen. The theme which it s concentrated on, played an important role in making the museum an interesting venue for the residents of Istanbul, since its foundation. At the museum situated at the historical Hasköy Dockyard, the visitors take the opportunity to see various industrial products, curious cars, aircrafts and even the Sultan s boat, submarines etc... There are food and drink areas for those who want to take a break during the visit and to eat/drink something. And those who visit the museum nowadays, can see a pleasant exhibition named Miniature Rooms. We had an interview with the General Director Ertuğrul Duru to know more about Rahmi M.Koç Museum and to get informations for Miniature Rooms. TÜRSAB: Could you please tell the history of Rahmi M. Koç Museum. What were the factors playing role in determining the area and concept of the museum; why transportation, industry and communication history were essential? ERTUĞRUL DURU: I prefer to answer this question with the words of Rahmi M. Koç, the founder of Rahmi M.Koç Museum: The idea of museum didn t come suddenly on the agenda. It appeared due two notions coming together. One of them is my big interest in all types of machinery and mainly steam machine. When I was collecting all these machines, I took care of all kinds of instruments in which the steam machine was used. The second notion is the idea of exhibiting the products manufactured by Koç Group. In both notions, The Henry Ford museum in Deaborn, Michigan had a big influence. Müze kurma fikri tamamen oluştuktan sonra uygun bir yer bulmak için arayış başlar ve önce tarihi yarımada, Topkapı Sarayı ve etrafı araştırılır. Uzun vadede deniz vasıtaları teşhiri planları da olduğundan dolayı arayış deniz kenarına kaydırılır. Sayın Dr. Bülent Bulgurlu, Haliç mevkiinde temelleri 12. asra dayanan ve 1730 larda, Osmanlı döneminde donanmaya çıpa ve döküm parçaları yapımında kullanılan Lengerhane binasını bulur lerde Tekel tarafından tütün deposu olarak kullanılıp, 1984 te büyük bir yangın geçirmesinin ardından kendi haline terk edilen bina, 1991 yılında Tekel den satın alınır, aslına uygun olarak onarılır ve müzenin ilk bölümü bu binada 1994 yılında açılır. Burasının dar gelmeye başlamasıyla beraber yeni bir arayış başlar ve 1880 lerden kalma Hasköy Tersanesi özelleştirildikten sonra alınır, aslına uygun olarak restore edilerek 2001 yılında açılır. TÜRSAB: Rahmi M. Koç Müzesi sıkça ziyaret edilen bir mekân haline geldi. Bunu neye bağlıyorsunuz? E. DURU: Müzemiz her yaş ve gruptan ziyaretçi için sürprizlerle dolu. Örneğin İkinci Dünya Savaşı nda Pasifik te savaşmış, donanmamıza 1970 te katılmış ve 2000 yılına kadar hizmet vermiş bir denizaltı var. II. Mahmut un Paris e giderken kullandığı saltanat vagonu; bir atlı tramvay, 77 adet nadide otomobil ve 5 adet uçak, çalışır durumda bir dar hat demiryolu, tarihi Fenerbahçe Vapuru ilgi görüyor. TÜRSAB: Yabancı ziyaretçilerin oranı yaklaşık ne düzeyde? E. DURU: Böyle zengin bir koleksiyon, içinde bulunduğumuz tarihi yapı kompleksi ve Sergilenen minyatür odalardan biri (en üstte). Anaokulları için müze içinde bir eğitim atölyemiz var. Meslek liselerine yönelik eğitim programları ile ilköğretim okulları öğretmen ve öğrenci eğitim paketi uygulamamız yıl boyunca devam ediyor. Mr.Dr. Bülent Bulgurlu finds the building of lengerhane, a building dating back to the 12 th century and used in 1730s for the production of anchor and font parts for the Ottoman navy. The building used as a tobacco storehouse by Tekel in 1950s and left in its ruined state after a big fire in 1984, is bought from Tekel in 1991, restored conform to its original state and the first division of the museum is opened in this building in However, the space is not enough after some time and a new search starts; thus, Hasköy Dockyard, dating back to 1880s, is acquired after the privatization, restored conform to its original state and opened in TÜRSAB: Rahmi M. Koç Museum is turned into a frequently visited venue. How do you explain it? E. DURU: Our museum is full of surprises for every one and for every age. For example, we have a submarine which had been used at the Pacific during the Second World War, then took part in our navy in 1970 and served until The visitors take interest in the royal wagon used by Mahmoud II. during his travel to Paris, a tramway carried by horses, 77 rare cars and 5 aircrafts, a narrow railways still running and the historical Fenerbahçe ship. The visitors don t only look from distance; most of them enter in the objects and touch them. TÜRSAB: What is the percentage of foreign visitors approximately? E. DURU: Such a rich collection is interesting for the foreigners too, given its historical building complex and our geographical location too. The percentage of foreign visitors in the total number of visitors rose to 15 per cent thanks to the exhibitions we open and our presentation activities. İstanbul dışında olmak üzere iki kardeş okulumuz var. Gezici müze aracımız Müzebüs ile altı yıldan beri Anadolu yu bir uçtan bir uca dolaşıp öğrenciye ulaştık, ulaşmaya devam ediyoruz. TÜRSAB: Minyatür Odalar sergisinden ve bu yılın diğer etkinliklerinden söz eder misiniz... E. DURU: Minyatür Odalar sergisi, içeriği sebebiyle yılın ilgi çeken etkinlikleri arasına girdi. Serginin İstanbul dan sonraki durağı Ankara-Rahmi M. Koç Çengelhan Müzesi olacak. Sergi dünyada ilk kez 21 odanın bir araya geldiği özel bir etkinlik yılının bir diğer önemli projesi 2009 Astronomi Yılı çerçevesinde açılan Keşif Küresi. Bu proje de ziyaretçilerimizin gökyüzünü daha yakından tanımasına ve eğlenerek öğrenme temamıza devam edebilmemize olanak sağlıyor. Yine 2009 yılında İDO ile ortak proje olarak, tarihi Fenerbahçe Vapuru müze gemi olarak sergilenmek üzere Rahmi M. Koç Müzesi ne geldi. Could you please tell your activities in this regard and education programmes? E. DURU: The education is one of the most important functions of our museum. We have an education workshop in the museum for the kindergartens. Our sustainable education programmes for the vocational schools and our education package for teachers and students for the primary schools are going on along the years. We have two sister schools, one in Istanbul and the other outside İstanbul. We travelled through Anatolia for six years with our mobile museum vehicle müzebus and reached out students; we continue still to reach. At the divisions of Discovery Table, What-How works and Try-Learn, the objects give opportunity to the visitors to see, try and learn each one by one, by themselves. TÜRSAB: Could you please tell your opinion about the perception of running museum in Turkey compared to the other countries? E. DURU: The first institutional museum was Sadberk Hanım Museum in the field of running private museum; Rahmi M.Koç Museum too took its place among others as the first and unique museum dedicated to the industry and industry history in our country and thus brought another dimension to the private museums. Individuals and corporations opened other private museums in time. The field of institutionalized private museums keeps improving in our country. TÜRSAB: Could you give informations about the exhibition of Miniature Rooms and the other activities E. The Discovery Globe is another important project of the year 2009 within the framework of the Astronomy Year This project helps our visitors to get more acquainted with the sky and thus we are going on with our theme of learning by entertaining. In 2009 again, the historical Fenerbahçe Ship was brought to Rahmi M.Koç Museum to be exhibited as a museum ship thanks to a common project realized with Ido. Thanks to the exhibitions to be organized in this beautiful ship and tea pleasure on the terrace giving onto the view of the historical peninsula, we think people of İstanbul will live nostalgic hours. TÜRSAB: Bir balayı programı nasıl belirleniyor? A. DURMUŞ: Balayı çiftimiz tercihlerini bize belirtir, biz de bu veriler ışığında onların dünyasına uygun seçenekler yaratmaya çalışırız. Örneğin nasıl bir mekânda konaklamak, nasıl bir yemek yemek, hangi saatler arasında ne tür bir etkinlik yapmak istediklerinden söz ederler. Fransa da geçirecekleri zaman doğrultusunda, çiftin yapacağı etkinlikleri de taleplerine göre planlarız: Müzeye, kütüphaneye mi gitmek isterler, sarayları gezmek mi, sinemaya gitmek mi, Eyfel e çıkmak mı... TÜRSAB: Hizmet kalitenizde, birlikte çalıştığınız kişi ve kurumların payı da yüksek olsa gerek. A. DURMUŞ: The person who gets in touch with us tells his needs and we try to develop a service accordingly. What guides us in providing a good service is that we know very well the needs of the Turkish person in France and we know very well France too. We know where and how a special need can be met, for example, what to eat and where to eat or where the houses of worship are located etc ; and we learnt in time what we didn t know previously according to the demands of our customers. What counts for us is to provide the same comfort to the VIP customer as in Turkey; for example, arranging the same one of its official car is one the services. All kinds of needs such as umbrella, additional socks, laptop, mobile phone etc.. are within the instant reach of our customer in the car. We take notes for each of our customers and this makes easier to think about these details. TÜRSAB: What are the qualities of your employees? A. DURMUŞ: All our employees are Turkish; they speak perfectly both Turkish and French. Our drivers own VIP license in addition to the driving licenses. They have an excellent communication with our customers; they obey absolutely the speed limit, they turn on one of the French radio stations if the customer wants to listen to the music or in case, a special type of music is required, it s arranged. TÜRSAB: How was VIP Honeymoon shaped serving to the new married couples after VIP Businessman? A. DURMUŞ: I observed for some time the demands and preferences of the couples visiting France for the honeymoon. Where did they use to stay, where did they use to eat and what type of activities were luring them I thought we could provide boutique service in this area. As we prepare custom made programmes for our businessmen, we were able to realize it for the couples too. TÜRSAB: How is a honeymoon programme shaped up? For example, they tell us in their preferences of accommodation, lunch/ dinner and what type of activity do they prefer and when According to the time to be spent in France, we plan the demands of the couple: Do they want to visit museums, libraries, palaces, cinemas or to go up the Eiffel Tower? TÜRSAB: You should work with people and corporations of quality to provide a high quality of service A. DURMUŞ: The hotels we work with are aware of our conditions and the demands of our customers; so their quality of service is appropriate to our standards. For example, some of our clients want to have Turkish coffee in the afternoon and we send an extra employee to the hotel or restaurant for this service. We procure the foods they want from the Turkish groceries to eat at breakfast and put them on their tables. It s certainly possible to find the alternatives to our services; however, the customer prefers us because we take care of each detail to make him feel as he was at home. Dilek ağaçlarının dalları, bir yıl boyunca biriktirilip kâğıtlara yazılan dilekleri bekliyor 2 Aylin Şen Pek çok kaynağa göre, Hıdrellez, İslam öncesi Türklerde kültürün çok önemli bir parçasıydı. Eski Türkler, adı değişse de Hıdrellez i kutsal bir gün kabul ederdi. Boz atlı Hızır ın gelişini, ortak kültürün ürünü olan maniler, ninniler, atasözleri, koşmalarla kutlar ve geleneği bu yolla sonraki nesillere aktarırdı. Bugün de Türk dünyasında Hıdrellez coşkulu törenlerle karşılanıyor. Devlet büyüklerinden sokaktaki insana, Hıdrellez kutlamaları yapılıyor. İslam kültüründe ise inanışın kökeninde Hz. Hızır ile Hz. İlyas ın buluşması yatıyor. Bazı İslam âlimlerine göre bir melek olan Hz. Hızır ve Hz. İlyas ab-ı hayat, yani hayat suyu içmiş ve ölümsüzlüğe kavuşmuştu. İnanışa göre Hızır karadakilerin, İlyas ise denizdekilerin imdadına koşar. Sadece bir gün, 6 Mayıs günü bir araya gelirler ve bu buluşmayı dünya yeşillere bürünerek kutlar. READY TO MAKE A WISH? The branches of wish trees wait for the wishes accumulated through the year and written on a piece of paper According to many sources, the Hıdrellez has always been a very significant part of pre-islam Turkish culture. Ancient Turks used to consider Hıdrellez as a holy day though its name was something else then. They used to celebrate the coming of Hızır the equestrian with gray horse with ditties, lullabies and ballads, and hand down the tradition to the next generations. Hıdrellez is also celebrated through enthusiastic rituals in the Turkic world today. Hıdrellez is celebrated by all people from the statesmen to the men in the street. In the Islamic culture, on the other hand, this belief is based on the meeting of Hızır and İlyas. Hızır and İlyas, who, according to some Islamic scholars, are angels, had drunk Adam s ale, that is, water of life and become immortal. According to the belief, Hızır comes to the help of those on the land and İlyas comes to the help of those on the sea. 18 Buluşma o kadar önemlidir ki, halk bu iki kişiyi her zaman birlikte anar; isimleri söylene söylene ağızlarda tek bir isim haline gelir. Hızır ve İlyas, Hıdrellez olur. İşte, yüzyıllardır geleneklere damgasını böyle vuran Hıdrellez, sadece yardım çağrılarına yanıt vermekle kalmaz, aynı zamanda dilekleri de yerine getirir. Bu yüzden de çok özel hazırlıklarla karşılanır. Kimileri çocukları için ev ister ondan, kimileri sağlık dileğini iletir. Yetiş ya Hızır! Hıdrellez, Türk-İslam kültüründe öylesine derin biçimde yer etmiş ki, atasözlerine bile konu olmuş. Bunlar içinde en yaygın olanı Kul sıkışmayınca Hızır yetişmez sözü. Bu sözle, geçmişte Hızır ın nebi, yani yeni bir kitap getirmeyen peygamber ya da melek olarak görüldüğü vurgulanıyor; dualara cevap olarak kulun yardımına gönderildiği anlatılıyor. Ateş ve su Hıdrellez kutlamalarında hayatı simgeleyen ateş ve suyun ayrı bir önemi var. Günümüzde bile, yakılan ateşin üzerinden atlama geleneği devam ediyor. Su da, ya dilek işaretlerinin bırakılmasıyla veya el-yüz-kap kacak yıkanmasıyla öne çıkıyor. Ateş ve su, karada yardıma koşan Hızır la denizde imdada yetişen İlyas ı da anlatıyor. Yüzyıllar boyunca toplumların kutsal saydığı bu iki unsur, Hıdrellez kutlamalarında başlı başına bir yer tutuyor. Ateş, Allah ın insanlara bir armağanı. Söndürülmemeli, oynanmamalı, kutsallığına halel getirilmemelidir. Bunu göstermek için de Hıdrellez kutlamalarında ateşin üzerinden üç kez atlanır; etrafında neşeyle türküler, maniler söylenir. Su da eski Türk inancına göre kutsaldır; hatta her gölün, pınarın sahibi vardır ve onlara hürmette kusur edilmemelidir. Hıdrellez günü yakın bir pınardan getirilen suyu içme, bu suyla el yüz yıkama suyla bütünleşme anlamına gelir. is so important that people always mention their names together, thus, by repetition their names turn into one name. Hızır and İlyas become Hıdrellez. So, Hıdrellez which has put its sign on traditions for centuries not only replies the calls for help, but it also makes wishes true. That is why it is welcomed with very special preparations. Some ask it for a house for their kids and some tell it their wishes for health. Reach Goodness Hızır! Hıdrellez has such a deep effect on the Turkish-Islamic culture that it is also the subject of some proverbs. The most common among these is the saying, Hızır won t be there unless the souls are in trouble. With this saying it is emphasized that Hızır was seen as either a prophet without a new book or an angel in the past. It is also said that it was sent for the help of the soul in return to his/her prayers. Fire and water Fire and water that symbolize the life have a separate significance in Hıdrellez celebrations. Even today, the tradition of jumping over a fire continues. Water becomes significant when the wish markings are put or when hands and face, or dishes and pottery are washed. Fire and water tells us Hızır who runs for help on the land and İlyas who runs for help on the sea. These two elements which have been deemed holy by the societies throughout centuries have a particular place during Hıdrellez celebrations. Fire is a gift for the human beings from the God. It should not be put off, played with and its holiness should not be Günümüzde bile, yakılan ateşin üzerinden atlama geleneği devam ediyor Even today, the tradition of jumping over the fire is practiced vitiated. To show this, people jump over the fire three times during Hıdrellez celebrations; joyous Turkish folk songs and ditties are sung around it. Water is also sacred according to old Turkish beliefs; even each lake, spring has an owner and one should never disrespect them. 19 ŞEH R EFSANELERİ urban legends ÇİNİ: SIRRIN SIRRI Sırlanmış yüzeyleriyle birer sanat eserini hatırlatan Kütahya çinilerinin sırrı toprağında. Rivayet olunur ki Kütahya nın o topraklarda kurulmasının sırrı da işte o sır da Kütahya nın tarihi, Anadolu nun pek çok kenti gibi efsanelerle dokunmuş; ama onu diğer kentlerden ayıran, kuruluşunun bile bir efsaneye dönüşmüş olması. Daha da önemlisi, o efsanenin Kütahya nın en büyük tarihi, ekonomik, kültürel zenginliği olan çiniye dayanması; Kütahya tarihiyle çinicilik tarihinin neredeyse iç içe geçip bütünleşmesi. Efsaneye göre, binlerce yıl önce Kütahya nın yakınlarındaki bir antik kentte yörenin en gözde pazarı kurulurmuş. İşte o pazara yaşlı bir kadın gelir, birbirinden güzel çanak çömlek ya da vazolar satarmış. Sattıkları, pazarın hem en güzel hem de en sağlam malları CHINA: SECRET OF THE GLAZE Secret of Kütahya chinaware that resembles artifacts with their luster surfaces lies in their earth. It is rumored that the secret why Kütahya was founded on those lands also lies in that glaze History of Kütahya is interwoven with legends just like many other Anatolian cities, but the feature that separates this city from others is that story of its foundation is also legendary. What is more important than this is that the legend is based on china works which is at the same time the greatest historical, economical and cultural richness of Kütahya; Kütahya s history and the history of china works is almost intertwined and integrated. According to the legend, thousands of years ago this most popular bazaar of the region used to be set up in an ancient city nearby Kütahya. And an old woman would always come to that bazaar and sell pottery or vases, each of which was more beautiful than the other. Her merchandise would always be the most beautiful and at the same time the soundest goods in the bazaar. That s why she would always leave the bazaar with her purse full of money and her bag emptied. This situation, of course, draws attraction of everyone very soon. After a while, her competitors in the bazaar see that the old woman would hardly leave any work to them, so they decide to find out the secret in this event. One day, on the way back from the bazaar, they follow her. Without being aware of the fact that she is being followed, she heads towards the region where Kütahya is located today. There she digs some earth from a hill to fill her bag and turns back. Her rivals understand that the secret of the pottery and vases which she sells in the bazaar lies not in the old woman, but in the earth. What s more, the raw material was for free. So they immediately settle in the region and setup their workshops. And they start to manufacture the first examples of chinas. Kütahya was thus founded. Well, what did name that city? Seramorum: City of Ceramic Kütahya s original name also corroborates the legend about its foundation, because this new dwelling place which was founded by 38 TÜRSAB DERGİ MAYIS 2009 MAYIS 2009 TÜRSAB DERGİ 39

20 olurmuş. Bu yüzden pazardan heybesi boş, cebi dolu dönermiş. Bu durum kısa sürede herkesin dikkatini çekmiş. Pazardaki rakipleri bir süre sonra bakmışlar ki yaşlı kadın onlara iş bırakmıyor; bu olayın sırrını çözmeye karar vermişler. Bir gün pazar dönüşü gizlice kadını izlemişler. Peşindekilerden habersiz, yaşlı kadın bugünkü Kütahya nın bulunduğu yöreye gitmiş. Bir tepeden aldığı toprağı heybesine doldurmuş, geri dönmüş. Rakibi çömlekçiler de anlamış ki pazara getirdiği kap kacağın, vazoların sırrı kadında değil, toprakta. Üstelik hammaddesi de bedava. Hemen bölgeye yerleşmişler, atölyeler kurmuşlar. Çiniciliğin ilk örneği çömlekleri üretmeye başlamışlar. Böylece Kütahya nın da temelini atmışlar. Peki o ilk kente ne ad vermişler? Seramorum: Seramik kenti Kütahya nın ilk adı da kuruluş efsanesini pekiştirir; çünkü, çömlekçilerin kurduğu bu yeni yerleşim yerine, seramik kenti anlamına gelen Seramorum adı verilmiştir. Daha sonra, Balkanlar dan gelip adım adım bölgede hükümranlığını ilan eden Frigler MÖ 11. yüzyılda kentin Kütahya sokaklarındaki tarihi evlerden bir görünüm A view of the historical houses on the streets of Kütahya the potters was named Seramorum, that is, city of ceramic. Later, Phrygians who came from the Balkans and gradually dominated the region changed the name of the city in 11 th century B.C. According to the sources, this new name was renowned as Kotiyum, Katiation or Katyasium, in several different pronunciations. This name was then changed into Kütahiye after it was conquered by Seljuk Turks. Although the civilizations which dominated the region as well as the names given by them had changed, the china craftsmanship which became the symbol of the city kept on surviving throughout centuries. Chinas which are manufactured in their characteristic colors of cobalt blue or manganese purple are just like artifacts. Anyway, most of the Seljuk artifacts are china works. Evliya Çelebi: Unique These artifacts are so eye-catching that Evliya Çelebi once wrote the following in his travel book when telling about Kütahya chinas: Its bowls and cups, and diversified mugs and pots as well as its crockery are unique. Evliya Çelebi also puts another note for the chinas for which he said that he had not seen anything similar to them. He records that as of the year 1671 there were 34 china workshops in Kütahya. This information reminds us another adını değiştirmiştir. Kaynaklara göre, bu yeni ad farklı söyleniş biçimleriyle Kotiyum, Katiation veya Katyasiyum olarak bilinir. İşte bu isim Selçuklu Türklerinin fethiyle değişmiş, Kütahiye haline getirilmiştir. Bölgeye hükmeden uygarlıklar ve onların koyduğu isimler değişse de, kentin sembolü haline gelen çinicilik sanatı yüzyıllar boyunca varlığını korumuştur. Karakteristik özelliği olan kobalt mavisi, manganez moru gibi renklerle üretilen çiniler adeta birer sanat eseri gibidir. Zaten, Selçuklu sanatının pek çok örneği de çinili eserlerle verilmiştir. Evliya Çelebi: Benzeri yok Bu eserler o kadar göz alıcıdır ki Evliya Çelebi, Seyahatname sinde Kütahya çinilerinden söz ederken şöyle yazmıştır: Kâse ve fincanı ve günagün (türlü türlü) maşraba ve güzeleri (çömlekleri) ve çanak ve tabakları bir diyara mahsus değildir (benzeri görülmemiştir). Evliya Çelebi, hiçbir diyarda benzerini görmedim dediği çiniler için bir not daha düşer: 1671 tarihi itibariyle Kütahya da 34 adet çini atölyesi olduğunu kayda geçirir. Bu bilgi, Kütahya çinileri hakkında bir başka ilginç notu, dünya çapında bir iddiayı hatırlatır. İlk toplu sözleşme çiniler içindi İddiayı gün ışığına çıkartan, bir belge: Yaklaşık on yıl kadar önce bulunan ve Çini Müzesi nde sergilenen belgeye göre, dünyanın ilk toplu sözleşmesi, sanıldığı gibi İngiltere de değil Kütahya da 1766 yılında imzalandı. Belge, kentteki çini atölyesi sahipleriyle çalışan kalfa ve çıraklar arasında imzalanan bir anlaşmaya yer veriyor. Anlaşma bir yandan çalışanların alacağı ücretler ve çalışma koşullarını kurala bağlıyor, bir yandan da yeni atölye açılmamasını öngörüyor. Sözleşmeyle konan kuralları çiğneyenlerin de kürek cezasına çarptırılacağı kayda geçiriliyor. Türk, Osmanlı motifleri... Karakteristik renkleriyle tabiatı sanata dönüştüren mavi karanfiller, laleler... İçi ve dışı sırlı tabaklar, kâseler, kupalar... Kütahya nın kuruluş efsanesinde işte böyle göz alıcı bir sanat yatıyor. O sanat, kimi zaman tabaklarla evimize konuk oluyor; kimi zaman camilerle, çeşmelerle Kütahya yı süslüyor. Ve zamana meydan okuyan güzellikleriyle, Topkapı Sarayı nı gezen ziyaretçileri büyülüyor. interesting note, a worldwide claim about Kütahya chinas. According to this document, which was discovered some ten years ago and is currently being exhibited in the China Museum, the first collective labor agreement in the world was not signed in England as it is believed so, but it was signed in Kütahya in This document includes an agreement signed between the china workshop owners and the foremen and apprentices in this city. While settling the wages to be paid to the employees and putting the rules about working conditions on one side, the agreement also prescribes for not opening any more workshops. It is also mentioned that the violators of the contract would be condemned to row in a galley. Turkish, Ottoman motifs... Blue carnations, tulips which turn the nature into art with their characteristic colors... Plates, bowls, cups glazed inside and outside... Such an eye-catching art lies under the legend about founding of Kütahya. That art is sometimes in our houses as plates and it is sometimes in the mosques and fountains to embellish Kütahya.
