Filiz sets off for another lake to find it. In the end, she catches eight of the rare fish and starts feeding them to her daughter. When Kaya discovers the fish at home, he has the idea of farming them commercially in the hope of making some money. To set up a fish farm, however, he needs money he doesn t have. Derviş Zaim (Cyprus, 1964) graduated from Boğaziçi University with a degree in management and went on to earn an MA in film and cultural studies from the University of Warwick in the UK. His first feature, Somersault in a Coffin, won several national and international awards. He followed this up with the award-winning Elephants and Grass and then Mud, which won an award in Venice. Next came Waiting for Heaven (2006), Dot (2008) and Shadows and Faces (2011), a trilogy reflecting on three of Turkey s traditional art forms. Görkem Şarkan (1985) graduated from the Drama Department of the Istanbul University State Conservatory in 2013. He founded his own theatre company, Free Zone, in 2010. He wrote, directed and acted in the play, The Roof, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Sadri Alışık Stage and Screen Acting Awards. In 2011, he was named Playwright of the Year by TOBAV (State Theatre, Opera & Ballet Staff Benevolent Foundation) for his latest play, No Man, We re Home. After much discussion, they choose Bizum Hoca (Our Hodja), a villager loved and respected by everyone, as their unofficial stand-in. Our Hodja differs from the stereotypical imam and is keen to change some of the villagers bad habits. Meanwhile, the community becomes embroiled in a hotly contested issue when plans emerge to build one of the region s controversial hydroelectric power plants (HEPP) on a river flowing through the village. Villagers oppose construction of the HEPP and a battle begins. Our Hodja finds himself leading the villagers who started the protests. When the official imam, Ekrem, eventually turns up, the battle continues at a different level, for Our Hodja is pitched directly against Ekrem, a supporter of HEPPs who tries to convince villagers of the benefits of the plant. With its focus on a love of nature and humanity, Our Hodja is a comedy that looks at religion from a different standpoint. F. Serkan Acar (Artvin, 1975) studied psychology at Istanbul University. As a student he published and wrote articles for cinema magazines. On graduating, he began working in the television and film industries as an assistant director and production manager. He published Laz Kapital, a humorous look at what might have been, had Karl Marx been born in Trabzon rather than in Trier. To date, he has written four feature film scripts.
