4 AJANDA DQ OF MONTREAL IN BABYLON AGAIN The American psychedelic and indie pop band Of Montreal are getting ready to take over the Babylon stage once again on Wednesday, May 9. Led by poet, musician and performance artist Kevin Barnes, also known by his alter ego, Georgie Fruit, Of Montreal will make this an unforgettable night for everyone through their singalong chorus style, impressive song lyrics and onstage performance that has the air of a carnival. The band incorporates elements of psychedelic pop, electronic, funk, glam, krautrock and even afrobeat into what began as vaudeville to achieve a rainbow-like spectrum of music. Heavily influenced by icons such as The Beatles and David Bowie, the group got their big break with 2007 s Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? which was considered to be one of the best albums of the year. AKBANK SHORT FILM FESTIVAL The Akbank Short Film Festival is organized in order to encourage directors to make short films, which are non-commercial ventures that are trying to develop within the limited conditions in our country; the festival also seeks to support new cinematographers who ll contribute to national cinema and provide a platform for cinephiles to enjoy the short films that have been produced. Held between March 19 and 29, the festival celebrates its eighth year. AJANDA 6 DQ IT WAS A TIME OF CONVERSATION SALT GALATA (February 8 April 22) In its second Open Archive project titled It Was a Time of Conversation, SALT uses documents from the time period to re-examine the stories behind three exhibitions held in Turkey in the first half of the 90s: Elli Numara/Anı Bellek II, GAR and Küreselleşme- Devlet, Sefalet, Şiddet. These three exhibitions offer a variety of curatorial approaches; not only were they not situated in conventional exhibition spaces like galleries, cultural centers or historic structures, but they actually formed a conversation with the spaces in which they were housed. Through these three exhibitions, the project provides a collective look at non-commercial, collective enterprises that artists who collaborated and shared ideas started. The exhibition also reminds us of a time period before corporations, the early 90s, which were marked by a unique lack of expectation. It Was a Time of Conversation combines the archives of these three exhibitions held in a time period when the evolutions of the art world and the fact that art is a method of speaking was newly being understood by people of different disciplines, who then began to treat it as an object of thought. Starting with these three exhibitions produced in an atmosphere of thought and discussion, the exhibition aims to give us an idea about the artistic platform in Turkey in the 90s, when art began to intermingle with different fields such as politics and sociology and when the term curator began to have meaning for exhibitions. O ZAMANLAR KONUŞUYORDUK SALT GALATA (8 Şubat -22 Nisan) SALT, O zamanlar konuşuyorduk adlı ikinci Açık Arşiv projesinde, 90 lı yılların ilk yarısında Türkiye de düzenlenmiş Elli Numara/Anı Bellek II, GAR ve Küreselleşme-Devlet, Sefalet, Şiddet sergilerinin hikâyelerini, dönemin belgeleri aracılığıyla yeniden değerlendiriyor. Küratöryel yaklaşımda farklılık oluşturan bu üç sergi, galeri ve kültür merkezi gibi alışılagelmiş sergi mekânları ve tarihi yapılarda konumlandırılmadıkları gibi, içinde yer aldıkları mekânlarla bir müzakereye girişmişlerdi. Ortamın henüz kurumsallaşmadığı, erken 90 ların kendine has beklentisizlik durumunu taşıyarak dönemi hatırlatıyor. O zamanlar konuşuyorduk, sanat dünyasındaki dönüşümlerin, sanatın bir konuşma biçimi oluşunun farklı disiplinlerden kişiler tarafından yeni yeni algılanmaya başlandığı ve bir düşünce nesnesi olarak ortaya çıktığı bir dönemde gerçekleştirilmiş bu üç serginin arşivlerini buluşturur. Düşünce ve tartışma ortamlarında üretilmiş bu üç sergiden hareketle, sanatın siyaset ve sosyoloji gibi farklı alanlarla bir araya gelmeye başladığı, sergilerde küratör kavramının yer kazandığı 90 larda Türkiye deki sanat ortamı hakkında fikir vermeyi amaçlar.

12 Langen Vakfı Almanya nın Neuss kentinde bulunan ve Langen Vakfı na bağlı hizmet veren bu bina aslında eski bir NATO üssü olan Raketenstation Hombroich a konuşlanmış. Vakfa bağlı olan bu müze doğu sanatlarından modern sanata birçok eseri bir arada sergiliyor. Tadao Ando nun tasarımını yaptığı müze binası betondan bir yapının göz alıcı bir cam zarf içine saklanmış hali olarak özetlenebilir. Bu zarfın beton bina ile arasında kalan alanlar ise müzenin koridorlarını oluşturacak şekilde tasarlanmış. Binanın kısmen üzerine yerleştiği suni göletin sularını ve pırıltısını yine bu cam zarfın yarattığı boş ve şeffaf alan yansıtıyor ve ortaya estetik açıdan keyif veren bir görüntü çıkıyor. Architect Tadao Ando s creation can be described as a concrete structure wrapped in a striking glass envelope. The spaces between the glass and concrete are used as corridors. The waters of the artificial pond the building partially sits on provide glint and reflection, further enhancing the free and transparent feel of the structure. 13 Selgas Cano Mimarlık Ofisi Burası İspanya da, Madrid deki bir ormanın içinde, tamamen camdan yapılmış bir mimarlık ofisi ve tam anlamıyla camdan bir kapsül. Ofisi, kapsülden çok, tek tarafı tamamen camdan ibaret olan bir tüpe benzetmek daha doğru olacaktır. Duvarları ve tavanı tamamen etrafındaki doğaya açık, onunla bütünleşmiş şekilde yapılan; bu amaçla da sadece cam kullanılan binanın çalışanları dört mevsim doğayla iç içe şekilde çalışıyorlar ve bu sayede yaratıcılıklarını daha da iyi kullanabiliyorlar. Ofis binası son derece minimalist olsa da etrafındaki doğal renklere ve formlara karışıyor ve ortaya son derece canlı ve estetik açıdan zengin bir sonuç çıkıyor. Zemin ise binanın yerle birleştiği seviyeden daha alçakta kalıyor. Bu sayede bina toprağın içine batırılmış izlenimi veriyor ve doğayla daha da yakın temas halinde oluyor. www.selgascano.net Selgas Cano Architecture Office This office of a Spanish architecture firm, built in a forest in Madrid, is literally a glass capsule. Or, to put it more accurately, a glass tube. Its walls and ceiling are completely open to the nature around it and seem to blend in with it. The workers get to see the light of day and the change of seasons, which they report is beneficial to their creativity. While the office building itself is very minimalist, it produces a very lively and aesthetically rich effect thanks to the natural colors and forms surrounding it. The floor of the building is slightly below the ground level, which gives it a look of being rooted in the earth, completing the theme of being in touch in nature. www.selgascano.net

14 Philip Johnson ın Cam Evi A.B.D. nin Connecticut eyaletinde, New Canaan da bulunan bu ev tam anlamıyla camdan yapılmış bir küp.1949 da yapılan bina sade, mütevazı ancak bu özellikleriyle tezat yaratacak kadar da göz alıcı ve ihtişamlı. Ünlü Amerikalı mimar Philip Johnson ın taşrada yaptığı bu harika ev, yakından bakıldığında değeri daha iyi anlaşılan ve hayranlık uyandıran bir tasarıma sahip. Camın ve çeliğin, çevresindeki doğal ve yeşil alana nasıl da başarıyla entegre edildiğine inanmak gerçekten güç. Cama ek olarak çelikle kuvvetlendirilerek inşa edilen ev, önündeki gölete ve ötesinde uzanan koca ormana bakıyor. 1949 dan 2005 e kadar bu evde yaşayan mimar Johnson öldükten sonra, ev bir müzeye dönüştürüldü. 1930 ların iç mekan tasarımının izlerini yansıtan mobilyalar, Johnson ın New York ta yaşadığı evden getirilmişti ve bugün müzede görülebiliyor. 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, Connecticut; +1-203/594-9884; philipjohnsonglasshouse.org The Glass House This house was built in 1949 in New Canaan, Connecticut, USA, by architect Philip Johnson. The construction is simple and modest, but the overall effect is all the more striking for it. When examined up close, the famous architect s groundbreaking work reveals an admirably thoughtful design. Glass and steel, which were considered exclusively industrial materials at the time the house was built, are used in a way that integrates the house into the natural green area surrounding it with ease and elegance. There is a pond in front of the house and a great forest stretching into the distance beyond it. Johnson lived there from 1949 until his death in 2005, after which the house was converted into a museum. Yas Viceroy Hotel Abu Dhabi New York menşeli Asymptote Architecture mimarlarından Hani Rashid ve Lise Anne Couture ün tasarladığı birbirlerine çelik ve camdan yapılmış bir köprüyle bağlanan on iki katlı iki kuleden oluşan bu otel kıvrımlı ve yuvarlak hatlı bir forma sahip. Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri nin Abu Dhabi kentinde hizmet veren otelin binasında kullanılan ana materyaller çelik ve cam. Binanın ışık tasarımı da oldukça dikkat çekici ve kilometrelerce öteden fark ediliyor.
