presentation sunuş Uzaklara Bakarken Selçuk Dinçer Festival Direktörü Her yıl farklı bir üslupla, çoğu zaman da alışılmışın dışında bir biçimde kaleme alınan bu köşe, festivali vareden ekibin yapmaya çalıştıklarının bir anlatısı aslında. Kimi zaman bugüne dair beklentilerimizi, kimi zaman da yıllar alacak umutlarımızı anlatıyorum burada. Bu yıl da yine anlatmaya bu yaklaşımla başladım, epeyce de ilginç olduğunu düşündüğüm bir sürü şeyler çiziktirdim. Yazdıklarımın üzerinden geçiyordum ki bir sabah, ara verdiğim bir an festivalin facebook sayfasına gelen bir gönderiyi fark ettim. Okudum, sonra bir daha okudum, durdum bir an ve bu kısacık yazının bu festivalin yapmaya çabaladığı şeyleri benden daha iyi anlattığını fark ettim. Radikal bir karar verdim ve yazdıklarımı, belki sonra kullanırım diye, bilgisayarımda bir yerlere kaydedip facebook ta okuduğum yazıyı kopyaladım, üzerine bunları yazmaya başladım. Facebook grubumuzda tamamını okuyabileceğiniz yazı şöyle diyordu: Kızım Defne ilk festivale katıldığında bir yaşındaydı ve Pepe ye kahkahalarla gülmüştü. İki yaşındayken parmak kuklaları parmağına geçirip koltuğun arkasına saklanıyor ve yarım yamalak konuşmasıyla onları kendince canlandırıyordu. Üç yaşındayken ilk kuklasını yaptı festival kapsamındaki bir etkinlikte. Dört yaşına geldiğinde artık festivali takip ediyor ve heyecanla ne zaman başlayacağını soruyordu. Bu yıl Defne 5 yaşında ve merakla bu yılın kahramanlarını bekliyor. Umarım bir gün torunlarım da bu festivalle büyüyecek ve aynı heyecanı duyacaklar. Yaptıklarımız, ettiklerimizle bir çocuğun yaşamına dokunmuştuk ve bu başından beri en büyük beklentimizdi; bu kentin yaşamına, bu kentin insanlarına dokunmak. Aslında sadece bizim festivale özgü bir beklenti değil bu, bir sanat festivalinin ulaşması gereken hedeflerden en önemlisi; o kentin yaşamında küçücük de olsa bir fark yaratmak. Belki yalnızca izleyicilerin yaşamına küçük sevinçler getirmek ya da o kentin sanatçılarına, açılabilecek yeni kapılar göstermek. Geçtiğimiz bir yıl içinde İzmir de iki grup genç sanatçı birer kukla oyunu sahnelediler ve bu yılın festival programı içerisinde oyunlarını izleyiciyle buluşturacaklar. On yıllar boyunca, mesleğine sahip çıkabilmek için, çoğu kez hiç istemeden, doğdukları ve yaşamak istedikleri bu kentin çok uzaklarında yaşamak zorunda kalan genç sahne sanatçıları için kukla bir umut ışığı bugün. Kukla, küçük bir çocuğun yaşamına dokunduğu gibi onların da yaşamlarına dokundu ve şimdi onların oyunları yoluyla belki başkalarının da yaşamlarına dokunacak. Kukla bu kentin yaşamında fark yarattıkça bizim beklentilerimiz de gerçekleşmiş olacak. 2 3
presentation sunuş Looking into the Distance Selçuk Dinçer Festival Director This column, penned with a different style of phrasing every year, almost in an extraordinary manner, is in fact a narration of what the creative team of this festival is trying to achieve. Sometimes I intend to tell about what our expectations of today are and sometimes about our hopes that will take years to come true. This year I started typing with this approach and drafted many notes which I believed to be interesting. While I was editing what I wrote, in a moment of pause, I saw a message sent to the festival Facebook page. I read it, and then I read it again and again; then I stopped and all of a sudden noticed that this message explains what this festival is about, much better than I did. With a radical decision, I saved what I had written so far on my computer, maybe to be used in the future, copied the Facebook message on a fresh page and started to type this very message. The message, which is also available on our Facebook group page, says: My daughter Defne was only one year old when she visited the festival for the first time and she laughed out loud at Pepe. When she was two, she put on the finger puppets on her fingers, hid behind her seat and vocalized her puppets with her baby talk. She made her first puppet in one of the workshops of the festival at the age of three. When she turned four, she was following the festival and excitedly asking when it would start. This year Defne is five years old and waiting eagerly for the heroes of this year. I hope my grandchildren will also grow up with this festival and will feel the same enthusiasm. We had the chance to touch the life of a child with what we do and this has been our biggest expectation since the beginning; making a difference in the life of this city and in the lives of the people of our city. As a matter of fact, this is not only our festival s expectation, it is the most important target of any art festival that has to be met; making a difference, big or small, in the city life. Maybe just to add a little bit of joy to the lives of the audience or to show the artists of that city that there are new possibilities. In the last year two groups of young artists performed two plays in Izmir and this year their plays will be with the audience during our festival. Today puppetry is a ray of hope for the young stage performers, who most of the time have to unwillingly live far from their hometowns just to be able to continue their profession. The puppets touch their lives as well, just like the way they touch lives of little children, and now they will make an effect on more people through these young artists. The more the puppets make a difference in this city, the more our expectations will be met. 4 5

Birinin günlerce sandalyesinin yanında oturduğu görülmedik bir manzara değildi ve ona nedenini sorduklarında sandalyem kendini iyi hissetmiyor derdi. Nesneler varoluşlarını anlamlı kılmak için her şeyi yaparlardı. Her şey son derece güzel ve uyum içindeydi. Ancak böylesi cennet gibi yaşamlar uzun sürmez. Birden bire biri bir nesneden iki taneye sahip oldu. Protestolar ve isyanlar başladı. Yaşam ve nesneler kontrolden çıktı. İnsanlar kendilerini tehdit altında hissetti ve nesnelere savaş açtı. İnsanın yalın varoluşuna dair en çarpıcı çatışmanın hikâyesi.. A masterpiece! A spectacular story about conflicts of human beings with their surroundings, told in a simple, unambiguous language. A tale that has to be pondered thoroughly. There was an age when everyone and everything lived in harmony. People used to own one piece of every object and take good care of it. It was not unusual to see someone sitting next to his chair for days and when he was asked why he was doing this, he would say my chair does not feel good. The objects would do anything to make their beings meaningful. Everything was so beautiful and was in such a perfect harmony. But of course heavenly lives do not last forever. All of a sudden someone owned two of the same object. Protests and riots started. Life and objects got out of control. Human beings felt themselves under threat and declared war against the objects. Rusokoska is the apple of her father s eye. When one day his daughter wishes to get the most beautiful flower in the world the scarlet flower, the father goes to the castle of the ugly monster who owns it. Then a miracle happens. The feather that he writes with flies out of his hand and starts to write on a page by itself and creates a miracle world with the power of its free imagination. The empty balloon of the writer s thoughts turns into an egg, an egg from which a little duckling will be born to start its journey on earth. Cheerful and full of expectations, the duckling experiences many turns of events to find his place where he will be cherished, needed and loved. The performance, successfully combining dance theatre and multimedia, is about Bulgarian legends. The play tells the story of a young man, who takes the magical powers of a woodnymph so he can marry her. This live performance, glamorized with projections and animations and staged with a huge artistic success, creates an unforgettable fantasy world on stage for the audience. Yaramaz, çılgın, oyuncu, dansçı, güçlü, hızlı eller sahnede, fantezi dünyasına açılan bir kapı keşfeder. Eller artık, hikâye anlatan, nefes alan, nabzı atan ve sahneye enerji yayan canlı varlıklardır. İlk bakışta ortalık biraz dağınıktır ancak oyun bizi hareketli ve renkli bir dünyaya götürür ve burada ellerin sıradan işlevi kukla tiyatrosunun fantezi dünyasıyla yer değiştirir. The leading actors of this performance are the important part of our body that we use every day: the hands. Naughty, crazy, playful, dancer, strong, fast hands explore a door opening to a fantasy world on stage. The hands are now live creatures which tell stories, breathe and pulsate and diffuse energy to the stage. At the beginning, things are a little bit messy but the performance takes us to a vigorous, colorful world where the regular function of hands is replaced with the fantasy world of puppet theatre. The Canterville Ghost is a performance based on the short story of Oscar Wild. Four modern teenagers find themselves in the new house their parents bought. However they are not alone, a ghost lives in the house as well. The ghost thinks that the house belongs to him and he has valid ground and some secrets. It is not possible for these two different worlds, the modern, irremediable and cruel world and the old one where mystery and traditions rule, to exist together. They try to find him by blowing, applauding, closing their eyes and reviving. They become active players of the performance by accompanying the puppeteer with their directing, interpreting and questioning. Bu uyarlama Ram ı Tanrı olarak değil, eşi Sita dan ayrılmak zorunda kalan acı dolu bir prens olarak betimlemektedir. Lanka kralı Ravan tarafından kaçırılan eşi Sita yı kurtarmak için şeytanlarla savaşan Ram, bir yandan da kendi şeytanlarıyla mücadele etmektedir. Üç kişi tarafından oynatılan Bunraku tarzı kuklalar ve kuklacılar arasındaki koordinasyon görülmeye değer bir birliktelik sergilemekte. Öykü içinde Ram ın kimi zaman zihninde canlanan anıları, yani geçmişi, sahne arkasında kurulu bambu perdede sahnelenmektedir. Festivale Yeni Delhi den katılan topluluk, geleneksel bir öyküyü modern kukla tekniğiyle bütünleştirip, ilgi ve beğeniyle izlenecek bir performans sunuyor. This performance is adapted from the 8th century playwright Bhavbhuti s early age life story of Hindu God Ramayana. In this adaptation Ram is depicted not as a God but as an anguished prince who got separated from his wife Sita. Ram, fighting with demons to save his wife abducted by Lanka King Ravan, has to fight his own demons at the same time. The coordination between the Bunraku style puppets manipulated by three puppeteers and the puppeteers represents an association worth seeing. The memories of Ram, enlivened in his mind, in other words his past, are staged on the bamboo screen built behind the stage.
