PRESS KITS Round of 32 Thursday, 24 February 2005-20:45 (local time) La Romareda - Zaragoza REAL ZARAGOZA FENERBAHÇE SK MATCH OFFICIALS Referee Assistant referees Fourth official UEFA delegate Eric J. E. Braamhaar (HOL) Wijnand Rutgers (HOL), Rob Meenhuis (HOL) Kevin B.R. Blom (HOL) Heinz Fahnler (AUT) Uphill task for Fenerbahçe MATCH BACKGROUND Real Zaragoza were one of two away winners in the first legs of the Round of 32 after defender Alvaro scored the only goal against Fenerbahçe SK in Istanbul. The win gives the Spanish club plenty of confidence that they can complete the job at La Romareda in the second leg, but the improved form of Fenerbahçe in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League will ensure they don't rest on their laurels. Fenerbahçe travel to Spain seeking to break a Spanish hoodoo that has seen them lose all five of their previous encounters against Primera División sides. Apart from last week's defeat, their most recent disappointment came against FC Barcelona in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League when the Spanish outfit cantered to an easy 3-0 victory at the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium with goals from Patrick Kluivert, Patrik Andersson and Javier Saviola. The return game was much closer but Fenerbahçe suffered further misery when Rivaldo scored the only goal of the game in the final minute. It was little better six seasons earlier when the Turkish outfit lined up against Real Betis Balompié in the first round of the UEFA Cup and, ominously for Christoph Baum's side, again lost the first leg in Istanbul - this time 2-1. Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Rüstü Reçber had to pick the ball out of the net twice more in Spain as Betis eased through with a 4-1 aggregate win. Fenerbahçe entered this year's tie with some impetus, however, after picking up two wins in their final UEFA Champions League group games against AC Sparta Praha and Manchester United FC. However, Zaragoza have a fine pedigree in European competition and have already proved they are tough opposition. They won the forerunner to the UEFA Cup, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, in 1963/64 and added the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup trophy in 1994/95 after Nayim's remarkable last-gasp shot from the halfwayline against Arsenal FC. 1/7

DOMESTIC FORMGUIDE Zaragoza seek home help (Monday, 21 February 2005) With the 32 remaining UEFA Cup hopefuls set to be reduced to 16 by the end of this week, looks at the recent domestic form of the clubs involved. Real Zaragoza v Fenerbahçe SK Zaragoza lie 13th in the Primera División after drawing 0-0 with Levante UD at the weekend. Besides the season-long absence of centre-half César Jiménez, who tore his knee ligaments against Real Madrid CF last month, they are at full strength as they look to build on the 1-0 first-leg win recorded in Turkey last week. Having lost that game, Fenerbahçe got back to winning ways in style at the weekend with a resounding 7-0 home win against Kayserispor, with Marcio Nobre scoring twice and Marco Aurelio, Alex, Ümit Özat, Tuncay Sanli and Serhat Akin also finding the net. Influential midfield Marco Aurelio returns from suspension for the second leg against Zaragoza in Spain, although goalkeeper Rüstü Reçber, Alex and Fabio Luciano all missed training on Monday with minor injuries and striker Semih Sentürk limped out of the session with a groin problem. 4/7
