Sabun yapma fikri ne zaman ve nasıl ortaya çıktı? 40 yıldır doğal kozmetik üreten Eczacı bir anne ve zeytinyağı üreten Diş Hekimi Dayım Murat Koçak ile büyümenin markamıza çok yönden katkısı oldu. Annem, Nazan Kemali nin evde hazırladığı doğal iksirler ve karışımlar ile büyüdüm. Eczacı olmasına rağmen hiç ilaç kullanmazdı, ayrıca bütün cilt bakımı ürünlerimizi evde kendimiz hazırlardık. Eğitim kısmından da bahsedecek olursam, İtalya ya seyahat edip dünyanın en önemli zeytinyağı kuruluşlarından ONAOO nun düzenlediği eğitimlere katılarak zeytinyağı tadımcısı (degüstatör) oldum. Being the daughter of a pharmacist mother who has been producing natural cosmetics for 40 years and having a dentist uncle, Murat Koçak, had a huge impact in many ways. I grew up in a house where my mother, Nazan Kemali, would prepare natural potions and mixtures. Despite being a chemist, she never used medication herself. Additionally, we would prepare all our skin care products at home. As for education, I traveled to Italy and attended trainings run by ONAOO, one of the world s most important olive oil institutions, and became a degustator. I later attended a number of trainings in America and Europe regarding cosmetics and soap production. At the same time, I attended many schools that train scent specialists in Grasse, France. I still try to make time to travel abroad and attend trainings in this field. Zeytune soaps are made using the cold press method and they re all handmade. Can you tell us a little more about this? We don t boil the oil and other supplementary oils that we use in our cold press method soaps. Our soaps contain natural virgin olive oil from Ayvalık, laurel oil from Hatay, coconut oil and shea oil. All of these are good for the skin and they moisturize. We also use essential oils like pure lavender, orange, lemon grass, rosemary, clove and geranium. 66 Mayıs

Atölyemde çalışırken ve üretim esnasında müziksiz çalışamam, genellikle klasik müzik tercih ediyorum. Your soaps do not contain chemical bleach or ingredients that provide fragrance. They re totally natural. Can you tell us about the quality of your products? Our soaps do not contain essence, ingredients that produce froth, chemical bleach or colorings. The colors are completely natural and herbal. Every essential oil in our soaps has its own color. Zeytune orange for example is orange in color because of the orange essential oil. Also, we use natural clays to add color. I tend to use romantic scents when I m in love! What inspires you when producing soap? Do the ingredients vary depending on your emotional state? I m inspired by seasons, music, nature and romance. The ingredients I use most definitely depend on my emotional state. Right now for example, I prefer to use earthy and woody smells. When I m in love, I prefer florals and fruity smells. I generally use geranium. In summer, I like working with lemon and mandarin essential oils. When I m in my workshop, I can t work without music and it s generally classical music that I listen to. 68 Mayıs

Cold press soap production is extremely tedious but it s just as enjoyable. When a specific amount of olive oil, sodium hydroxide and water come together, a chemical reaction cause the mixture to become soap. The temperature of the natural virgin olive oil and other supplementary oils that we use during this method never exceeds 45 degrees. This allows the oils to maintain their nurturing effects on the skin. And then when we add 100% pure essential oil to the soap, the result is excellent. After this, we prepare glycerin using the cold press method. Glycerin acts as a deep skin moisturizer. After pouring the soap, it remains in a mold for 24 hours. It s then removed and left to dry for five weeks after which it is packaged. The result is the greatest excitement! Is it the initial idea, material transfer or the final result that gives you the most excitement? The initial idea is always exciting but I think it s the final result that tops the lot. Recently, we had the idea to produce a spa soap from green clay, Himalayan salt and seaweed. I produced a soap containing six different essential oils including geranium, orange and lemon. The idea was great but holding the dried soap in my hands after five weeks was especially spectacular.
