BAŞ Ş KAN DAN-FROM A N THE PRESIDENT Güneş parlarken ekin biçmek Making hay while the sun shines Geçen yıl dünyadaki ekonomik dalgalanmanın gölgesinde, 32 milyon turist ağırlayarak bir önceki yıla göre çıtayı yükselten turizm sektörü bu yıl da Avrupa daki ekonomik dalgalanmaya rağmen 30 milyon turist sınırını korumayı hedefliyor. Hatırlanacağı gibi Türkiye geçen yıl 21 milyar dolarlık turizm geliri sağlamıştı. Bu yıl genel beklenti ise turizm gelirlerinin aynı seviyede kalacağı yönünde. Bu sezon için rekabette turizmcileri düşündüren önemli iki sorun var. Bunlardan birincisi küresel kriz nedeniyle tüketici tercihlerinde meydana gelen değişiklik ve son dakika rezervasyonlarının seyri. Nitekim turizmcilerimiz yaşanan küresel dalgalanma ve İzlanda da yaşanan yanardağ patlaması nedeniyle önümüzdeki aylar için Kuzey Avrupa ve Akdeniz ülkelerinin fiyatlarını ciddi oranlarda indirebileceğini söylüyor. Portekiz, Yunanistan ve İspanya nın bu sezon için fiyatlarını indirdiği görülüyor. Bu ülkeler fiyat indirimleriyle ucuz tatil yapmak isteyen turistleri son dakikada da olsa kendilerine çekmek istiyorlar. Öte yandan Dünya Turizm ve Seyahat Konseyi için bir araştırma yapan Oxford Ekonomi Araştırmaları Merkezi Yöneticisi Adrian Cooper, kül krizinin toplam maliyetinin 5 milyar Doları bulduğunu söylüyor. Uçuşların yüzde 80'inin kül bulutu tehlikesi nedeniyle yapılmadığını belirten Cooper, Avrupa hava sahasının II. Dünya Savaşı'ndan sonra en büyük darbeyi yediğini savunuyor. Bu açıdan kül bulutlarının Türkiye yi beklenildiği kadar etkilememesi çok büyük bir şans oldu. Bütün bu faktörler bu sezon turizmde son dakikaya kadar zorlu bir rekabet ortamının olacağını gösteriyor. Bu sezonu başarılı bir şekilde geçirmenin yolu da turizmcilerimiz gibi çıtayı yüksek tutarak, rekabet etmekten geçiyor. Ünlü İspanyol yazar Cervantes, Güneş parlarken ekinini biç diyor. Bizim de beklentimiz istihdam ve işletmeler için yeni önlemler alınırken, turizm sektörünün de hassasiyetlerinin dikkatte alınması. Tourism sector, which in the face of the influence of the global economic turmoil managed to raise the bar last year by accommodating 32 million holidaymakers, targets this year to maintain the 30 million tourist benchmark despite the economic turbulence in Europe. As it can be recalled, Turkey generated 21 billion dollars in tourism revenues last year. The general expectations this year are for tourism revenues to remain around that figure. There are two main problems bothering tourism entrepreneurs regarding the competition in the current season. The first one is the shift in consumer choices due to the impacts of the global crisis and the course of last-minute bookings. Besides, the tourism experts state that countries in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean may slash prices significantly in the coming months due to the ongoing global fluctuation and the volcanic eruption in Iceland. It is observed that Portugal, Greece and Spain cut their prices this year. These countries want to attract the holidaymakers who desire cheaper getaways with the price cuts even at the last minute. However, Adrian Cooper, the Manager of Oxford Economics Research Center conducting a survey for World Travel and Tourism Council, states that the total cost of global ash crisis is nearly 5 billion Dollars. Stating that 80 percent of the flights were grounded due to the ash cloud risk, Cooper tells that European air space experienced the worst shot down since the Second World War. In this regard, it is a great occasion for Turkey to be affected less than the expected. All these factors suggest that the tourism sector will undergo a hard competition this year until the last minute. It is only possible to be successful this year by keeping the bar high and compete. Cervantes, the well-known Spanish author, recommends us to make hay while the sun shines. Our expectation is also that the weak points of the tourism sector are taken into consideration while new precautions are taken both for employment and businesses. DR. İ TO DAN HABERLER TÜRKİYE, 2011 DE BİLİŞİMİN PARTNER ÜLKESİ TURKEY IS TO BECOME ICT PARTNER COUNTRY IN 2011 İstanbul Ticaret Odası (İTO), Hannover Sanayi Fuarı, Anuga Gıda Fuarı ve Frankfurt Kitap Fuarı nın ardından bu kez dünyanın en büyük teknoloji fuarı CeBIT te Türkiye ye partner ülke ayrıcalığını yaşatacak. İTO nun girişimleri sonucunda Alman Bilişim ve Telekomünikasyon Derneği BITKOM ve CeBIT organizatörü Deutsche Messe, Türkiye yi 2011 yılı partner ülkesi olarak ilan etti. 1 5 Mart 2011 tarihleri arasında Almanya, Hannover de gerçekleştirilecek fuarda şirketlerarası tüm ilişkiler İstanbul Ticaret Odası ve Deutsche Messe aracılığıyla yürütülecek. CeBIT, Türk katılımcılara önümüzdeki yıl özel bir yer verecek. CeBIT 2011 açılışında Türk-Alman Bilişim Teknolojileri Zirvesi ne Başbakan Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ile Almanya Şansölyesi Angela Merkel in de katılması bekleniyor. NEWS FROM ICOC After the Hannover Messe, Anuga Food Fair and Frankfurt Book Fair, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) is now to present Turkey with the privilege of becoming partner country at CeBIT. As a result of the initiatives by ICOC, the German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media BITKOM, and the CeBIT organiser Deutsche Messe announced Turkey as partner country for 2011. At the fair to be held in Hannover, Germany, between March 1-5, 2011, all inter- company relations will be carried out through Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Deutsche Messe. CeBIT is to allocate special place for Turkish participants next year. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are expected to take part in the Turkish-German Information Technologies Summit at the opening of CeBIT 2011. The Turkish-German Information Technologies Summit is to be held on March 1, 2011, the first day of the fair. MORİTANYA DAN TÜRK İŞADAMLARINA YATIRIM ÇAĞRISI CALL FOR INVESTMENT TO TURKISH BUSINESSMEN BY MAURITANIA Kuzey Afrika ülkelerinden Moritanya nın iş adamları ve yöneticilerinden oluşan bir heyet İstanbul Ticaret Odası nı (İTO) ziyaret etti. Moritanya Belediye Başkanı ve Islah ve Kalkınma Partisi Genel Başkan Yardımcısı Şeykhani İbrahim, Moritanya İşadamları Derneği Başkanı Şehy Said, Moritanya İnsanı Yardım Vakfı Başkanı Şeyh İshak, Islah ve Kalkınma Partisi İstanbul Temsilcisi Şeyh Muhammed, MÜSİAD Eğitim Komisyonu Başkan Yardımcısı Furkan Gümüş ten oluşan heyeti, İTO Yönetim Kurulu Sayman Üyesi Hasan Demir karşıladı. The delegation comprising Sheikhani Ibrahim, Mauritania Mayor and Deputy Chairman of Reform and Development Party, Mauritania Businessmen Association Sheikh Said, Mauritania Humanitarian Aid Foundation Chairman Sheikh Ishak, Istanbul Representative of Reform and Development Party Sheikh Muhammed, MÜSİAD Education Commission Deputy Chairman Furkan Gümüş was received by ICOC Board of Directors Treasurer Hasan Demir. Mauritanian businessmen invited Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in their country. The Mauritanian delegation said that they were ready to cooperate in many areas such as phosphate, iron, gold and petrol. ICOC Treasurer Hasan Demir stated that they desired the relationships with Mauritania to be more regular and improved. AKARYAKIT HARİCİ ÜRÜNLER KOMİSYONU KURULACAK NON-FUEL PRODUCTS COMMISSION IS TO BE SET UP İTO, Akaryakıt Harici Ürünlerde Yaşanan Sektörel Sorunlar ve Çözüm Önerileri konulu panelde sektörü bir araya getirdi. Toplantının açılış konuşmasını yapan İTO Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Murat Sungurlu, kimya sektörünün tamamını ilgilendiren akaryakıt harici ürünlerin tüketiminde önemli artış görüldüğüne dikkat çekti. Akaryakıt ürünlerine son yıllarda yapılan ÖTV zammının sektörün rekabet koşullarını olumsuz etkilediğini belirten Sungurlu şunları söyledi: Akaryakıt ÖTV oranlarındaki yüksek artış, akaryakıt harici ürünlerin ÖTV oranlarına yansıtılmadı. Bunun sonucunda akaryakıt harici ürünlerin ithalatı artarken, kaçak ve amaç dışı kullanımlar da söz konusu oldu. Sektörün sorunları İTO da kurulması planlanan Akaryakıt Harici Ürünler Komisyonu nun çalışmaları ile önemli ölçüde giderilebilecek. Çünkü bu toplantıda bulunan tüm kurum ve kuruluşlar komisyonda yer alacak ve birlikte çalışacak. Toplantıda, atık ve baz yağların illegal kullanımından kaynaklanan piyasa büyüklüğünün yıllık yaklaşık 1 milyar 500 milyon TL olduğunu anlatan sektör temsilcileri, oluşan yıllık vergi kaybının ise 500-600 milyon TL. olduğunu belirttiler. ICOC brought together the sector representatives at a panel entitled Sectoral Problems Experienced in Non- Fuel Products and Solution Proposals. ICOC Board Member Murat Sungurlu spoke at the opening of the meeting and pointed out that there was significant increase in the consumption of non-fuel products which concerned the whole chemicals sector. Sungurlu indicated that the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) increase in fuel products introduced in recent years had impacted negatively on competitiveness in the sector and added the following: The sharp increase in fuel SCT was not reflected in SCT for non-fuel products. As a result of this, while import of non- fuel products increased, illegal products and out-of-purpose usage became an issue. The sector s problems would be resolved to a large extent with the works of Non-Fuel Products Commission to be established at ICOC. Because all institutions and agencies will be represented and work together in this commission. Sector representatives explained that the size of the market for illegal waste and base oils was around TRY 1.5 billion in annual terms and indicated that the annual tax loss was TRY 500-600. GELİŞEN TEKNOLOJİYLE FOTOĞRAFÇILIKTA DEĞİŞİM TARTIŞILDI TRANSFORMATION IN PHOTOGRAPHY UNDER THE SPELL OF ADVANCING TECHNOLOGIES WAS DISCUSSED İstanbul Ticaret Odası (İTO) Fotoğrafçılık Meslek Komitesi, düzenlenen zümre toplantısında güncel sorunlarını ele aldı. Sektör temsilcilerinin de yer aldığı toplantıda katılımcılar, sorunlarını ve çözüm önerilerini dile getirdi. Oturum başkanlığını Komite Meclis Üyesi Ali Uluoğlu nun üstlendiği toplantıda; büyük marketlerde fotoğrafçılıkla ilgili malzemelerin satılmasının sektöre zararı, kayıt dışı çalışan fotoğrafçılar ve bazı okullarda orijinal fotoğraf yerine fotokopilerin kabul görmesi, üzerinde en fazla durulan konular oldu. Özellikle dijitalleşmenin yaygınlaşmasıyla birlikte geleneksel fotoğraf stüdyolarının ikinci plana atılmak istendiğinden yakınan sektör mensupları, değişen koşullar karşısında neler yapılabileceğini konuştu. Gelişen teknolojinin takip edilerek, değişimin müşterinin ihtiyaçlarına cevap verecek biçimde olması gerektiği vurgulandı. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) Professional Committee on Photography discussed its present problems at the group meeting. During the meeting, attended also by sector representatives, participants discussed the issues and the proposals for their solution. At the meeting, chaired by Committee Assembly Member Ali Uluoğlu, the most discussed topics were the harms caused to the sectors by the sale of photographic materials in big stores, non- registered photographers and the acceptance of copied photographs instead of their originals at certain schools. Sector representatives complained particularly from the fact the traditional photo studios were pushed to the background with the popularisation of digitalisation and talked about what could be done in the face of changing circumstances. İ TO DAN HABERLER NEWS FROM ICOC AVRUPALILAR ÖZİMEK PROJESİNİ İNCELEDİ EUROPEANS EXAMINED THE ÖZİMEK PROJECT İstanbul Valiliği, İstanbul da Hayat Boyu Öğrenme Uygulamaları isimli çalışma ziyaretleri kapsamında Avrupa nın 10 farklı ülkesinden meslek kuruluşları temsilcilerine ev sahipliği yapıyor. Avrupa nın 10 farklı ülkesinden gelen meslek kuruluşları temsilcileri, İstanbul Ticaret Odası nı da (İTO) ziyaret etti. Heyet; İTO nun 6 Haziran 2007 den itibaren İstanbul İl Özel İdaresi, İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü ve İŞ-KUR İstanbul İl Müdürlüğü ile ortaklaşa hayata geçirdiği ÖZİMEK projesi hakkında bilgi aldı. ÖZİMEK projesi kapsamında 79 okulda 142 branşta eğitim veriliyor. Şu an itibariyle 21 bin 195 i mezun olmak üzere toplam 23 bin 85 kursiyer eğitim alıyor. The delegation obtained information about the ÖZİMEK project which was carried out jointly by Istanbul Special Provincial Administration, Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education and İŞ-KUR Istanbul Directorate since June 6, 2007. Within the scope of ÖZİMEK, training is provided in 142 branches at 79 schools. To date, 23,085 students were trained and 21,195 graduated. YAPI SEKTÖRÜNE REKABETTE ÜSTÜNLÜK PROJESİ COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE PROJECT IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR İTO İnşaat Malzemeleri Meslek Komitesi tarafından gerçekleştirilmekte olan Yapı Malzemeleri Sektöründe Rekabet Gücünü Geliştirme Projesi, İTO da tartışıldı. Toplantıda projenin İstanbul daki firmalar, yapı marketleri, yerel yönetimler, Sivil Toplum Kuruluşları ve uluslararası pazarlar olmak üzere beş araştırma konusu İstanbul Ticaret Odası (İTO) Hizmetler Sektörü İhtisas Komitesi Ulaşım-Turizm Alt Komisyonu toplantısı, İTO Meclis Üyesi Turgut Erkeskin başkanlığında düzenlendi. olduğu belirtildi. İstanbul un turizm değerlerinin hem daha iyi anlaşılabilmesi hem de daha iyi anlatılabilmesi adına halka turizm eğitimlerinin verilmesinin çok faydalı bir güven eksikliği olduğunu ifade etti. Topal, İTO olarak ortaklık kültürü oluşturmaya çalıştıklarını, mağazalar zinciri oluşturmanın sorunun çözümüne büyük katkı sağlayacağını anlattı. The Improvement of Competitiveness in the Building Materials Sector project, developed by ICOC Professional Committee on Building Materials, was discussed at ICOC. It was indicated at the meeting that there were five different research topics which included companies in İstanbul, building material stores, local administrations, NGOs and çalışma olacağı belirtildi. The meeting of the Transportation-Tourism Sub- Committee of the Services Sector Expertise Committee at Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) was held under the chairmanship of ICOC Assembly Member international markets. Speaking at the meeting on the importance of the works for increasing the competitiveness power of the sector, Eyüp Topal, ICOC Professional Committee on Building Materials Assembly Member, said that there was a necessity to set up specialised companies. Topal informed that consumer turnout at building material stores remained around 7 percent and emphasised that the main reason for this was product variety and lack of trust. Topal explained that as ICOC they were trying to institute partnership culture and that setting up store chains would contribute significantly to the solution of the problem. Turgut Erkeskin. At the meeting, current problems of the sector were discussed and solutions for them were sought. It was noted that providing tourism education to the public would be very beneficial in order for tourism assets of İstanbul to be better comprehended and conveyed. In addition, complaining from the lack of robust information in the transportation sector, sector representatives emphasised that an unambiguous inventory must be set up. PİERRE LOTİ NİN RESİMLERİ SERGİLENİYOR PAINTINGS BY PIERRE LOTI ARE EXHIBITED Türk dostu gezgin yazar Pierre Loti için İstanbul Ticaret Odası (İTO) ve Notre Dame de Sion Fransız Lisesi nin katkılarıyla düzenlenen Ressam Pierre Loti, Uzun Bir Yolculuk sergisi açıldı. Notre Dame de Sion Fransız Lisesi nde 21 Haziran tarihine kadar devam edecek sergi, Pierre Loti nin yaptığı 100 resmi, özel eşyasını ve Abdülmecid in yaptığı iki Pierre Loti portresini kapsıyor. İstanbul 2010 Avrupa Kültür Başkenti Ajansı, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi ve Kırmızı Yayınları tarafından da desteklenen sergi için önsözünü şair ve yayıncı Enis Batur un yazdığı, İstanbul Ticaret Odası desteği ile yayımlanan ayrıntılı bir de katalog hazırlandı. Serginin açılışında konuşan İstanbul Ticaret Odası Başkanı Dr. Murat Yalçıntaş, doğumunun 160 ıncı yılında, Türk Fransız dostluğunun simge ismi Loti nin aziz hatırasını yâd ettiklerini söyledi. Tılsımlı şehir İstanbul un, Loti nin sanatçılığı üzerinde büyük etkisi olduğunu belirten Dr. Yalçıntaş, Sözgelimi Loti ye ilk romanını İstanbul yazdırmıştır. Loti, Türkiye ile Fransa arasında bir kültür elçisi olmuştur. Türk kültürünü yansız bir şekilde tanıtmaya çabalamıştır. Böylece özellikle Fransa ile Türkiye yi birbirine bağlayan güçlü ve ısrarlı bir bağ olmuştur. Bu sergiyle İstanbul u, artık İstanbullu kabul ettiğimiz Pierre Loti nin yazı ve çizgileriyle keşfetmenin ayrıcalığını yakalayacağız dedi. Sergi kapsamında ''Ressam Pierre Loti / Uzun bir Yolculuk'' adlı eser de İstanbul Ticaret Odası'nın katkılarıyla Kırmızı Yayınları tarafından okuyucuya sunuldu. Pierre Loti ve eserleri konusunda çalışan iki uzman Alain Quella-Villeger ile Bruno Vercier tarafından hazırlanan eserde, bir deniz subayı olarak yaptığı uzun deniz gezileri sonucu 600 desene imza atan Pierre Loti'nin çizimleri, dönemin Avustralya, Papa Nui ve Paskalya adası, Polinezya kıyıları, Kara Afrika ve Osmanlı Devleti topraklarındaki hayata da ışık tutuyor. The Pierre Loti: A Long Journey exhibition, organised by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) with contributions by Notre Dame de Sion French High School to commemorate Pierre Loti, a French Turkophile traveller and novelist, was opened. At the exhibition comprising 100 paintings by Pierre Loti, a selection of his private belongings, and two portraits of Loti painted by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid will be on display at the Notre Dame de Sion French High School until June 21. A detailed catalogue, featuring foreword by the poet and publisher Enis Batur, which was published with the support of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, was prepared for the exhibition supported by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Kırmızı Yayınları. Speaking at the ceremony, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce President Dr. Murat Yalçıntaş said that they were commemorating the glorious memory of Loti, the symbol of Turkish-French friendship, on his 160th birthday. Dr. Yalçıntaş noted that the magic of İstanbul had a big impact on Loti s mastery and said: It could be said that İstanbul made Loti to write his first novel. Loti became a cultural ambassador between Turkey and France. He strived to impartially introduce Turkish culture. In this way, he became a powerful and persistent tie which linked Turkey and France. At this exhibition we will have the opportunity to discover İstanbul as depicted and painted by Pierre Loti whom we recognise as a person from İstanbul. Within the scope of the exhibition, a work by Kırmızı Yayınları entitled Painter Pierre Loti: A Long Journey, which was prepared with contributions by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, was presented to the readers. In the work compiled by Alain Quella- Villeger and Bruno Vercier, two experts specialising on Pierre Loti and his works, the 600 paintings made by Pierre Loti during his long naval trips as a navy officer shed light on the life of the period in Australia, Papa Nui and Easter Island, Polynesian coasts, Black Africa and the Ottoman Empire. A two-day colloquium entitled Pierre Loti, the Orientalists and the End of Neo-Romantism was held within the scope of the exhibition. In coordination with the visit by Prime Minister Erdoğan to Athens, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) visited Western Thrace with a 250-strong delegation of businessmen. ICOC Assembly held its 3rd Business Meeting of the 18th Term in the Komotini city of Greece as a guest of Rhodope Chamber of Commerce and Industry. LANDS AND WATER SOURCES ARE CLEAN Being one of the least developed regions in Greece, Western Thrace ranks penultimate among the administrative regions in Greece based on national income. This development status has delayed the industrial progress in the region up to date. The productive lands and water sources in Western Thrace, which have thus remained unspoiled, its unique natural resources and the big potential it carries in animal husbandry are waiting to be utilised. Tobacco, tomato, sugar beet and aromatic plants are leading the most important agricultural products in the region. ICOC took the first step for cooperation in these areas during the Komotini visit and will organise the next visit, with the participation of businessmen, operating in the target sectors. WE WILL COME BACK WITH THE TARGET SECTORS At the meetings held between the ICOC delegation, local administrations and professional agencies in the region, ICOC President Dr. Murat Yalçıntaş said: We will come back very soon with the representatives of the target sectors. Bölgede yaklaşık 150 bin kişilik bir nüfusa sahip bulunan Türk azınlığın, girişimci yönlerinin kuvvetli olduğuna vurgu yapan Başkonsolos Sarnıç, şunları söyledi: Otoyol, su ve elektrik şebekesinin değiştirilmesi, çok kültürlü ortamın desteklenmesi, AB fonları, topluluk destekleme programları ile bölgenin çehresi değişti. Yunanistan daki tek Türk bankası olan Ziraat Bankası nın Gümülcine Şubesi açtığı ticari kredilerle dikkat çekiyor. Şube Müdürü Nesimi Özay, mevduatın krediye dönüşmesinde yüzde 80 lik bir orana sahip olan şubenin mevduat hesabının 30 milyon Euro olduğu bilgisini veriyor. Bölge halkının beklentisi ise Ziraat Bankası İskeçe Şubesi nin de açılması. SANAYİYE TÜRK YATIRIMCILARI BEKLİYORUZ Rodop Sanayiciler ve Küçük Ölçekli İşletmeler Birliği Başkanı Georgios Nikolaidis, İTO heyetine, Türk yatırımcıları bekliyoruz. Her türlü kolaylığı da sağlamaya da hazırız dedi. Nikolaidis, üç fabrikası bulunduğunu ve çalışanlarının neredeyse yarısının Türk olduğunu belirterek Türklerle çalışmaktan çok memnunum. Şu anda atıl durumda olan ve hemen çalışmaya başlayabilecek onlarca fabrika var dedi. RODOP DA YATIRIM BEKLİYOR Rodop, Atina ve Selanik ten sonra Yunanistan ın üçüncü büyük üniversitesine sahip. Rodop Valisi Aris Yannakidis, üniversitenin 12 bin öğrencisi olduğunu belirterek bu sayının giderek arttığına ve bölgede yarattığı ekonomik canlılığa dikkat çekti. Yannakidis, Şeker pancarı, domates, tütün, aromatik ürünlerde bölgemizin eşi yok. Enerji ve hayvancılık da işbirliği yapılabilecek en önemli alanlar dedi. İTO heyetinin makamında ziyaret ettiği Rodop Ticaret ve Sanayi Odası Başkanı Nikolaos Angelidis, Gümülcine yi ve Batı Trakya yı bir ticaret merkezine dönüştürecek projeler üzerinde ortak bir çalışma yapılabileceğini söyledi. DISTRIBUTORSHIPS WANTED Mustafa Sarnıç, the Turkish Consul General in Komotini, informed that Greek nationals from Turkish descent, could play a significant role in the relations between Turkey and Greece. Stating that the Turkish minority in the region, numbering around 150,000 inhabitants, had strong entrepreneurship virtues, the Consul General added the following: The region s outlook has changed with the renewal of highways, water and electricity infrastructures, support of the multicultural environment, the EU funds and social support programmes. Economic cooperation and opportunities with bordering Turkish provinces such as Edirne and Çanakkale are increasing. The visit by ICOC to the region has sparked a wave of excitement. Turkish companies could give distributorships to companies in the region. Companies such as Eti, Ülker, Lassa and Petlas have marketing companies here. Inviting the Turkish business world to Komotini with projects that would offer solutions to tackle the unemployment, Komotini Mayor Dimitrios Kocakis stated that they wanted to benefit from the experience of Turkey in wind power. THE CONSUL GENERAL INVESTIGATES THE ECONOMY OF VILLAGES Consul General Sarnıç investigates during the weekend the economic and commercial opportunities in Turkish villages in Komotini, where Turkish minorities living in mountain villages engage mainly in animal husbandry, fishing and partly in agricultural activities. Sarnıç commented that commerce in Komotini and Xanthi has just begun to flourish. Ziraat Bank is one of the institutions working for the development of trade. The Komotini branch of Ziraat Bank, being the only Turkish bank in Greece, stands out with its commercial loans. Branch Manager Nesimi Özay stated that the branch with a savings-to-loans ratio of 80 percent manages deposits of 30 million Euros. The expectation of local people is for Ziraat Bank to open a branch in Xanthi, too. WE WAIT FOR THE TURKISH INVESTORS TO INVEST IN THE INDUSTRY Georgios Nikolaidis, Chairman of Association of Rhodope Industrialists and SMEs, told the ICOC delegation: We are waiting for the Turkish investors to come. We are ready to provide all the necessary support. Nikolaidis informed that he had three plants, where almost half of the employees were Turks and added: I am very happy to be working with the Turks. Currently, there are tons of plants that are idle, but can be made operational immediately. RHODOPE AWAITS INVEST- MENTS, TOO Rhodope is home to the third biggest university in Greece, after Athens and Thessalonica. Rhodope Governor Aris Yannakidis indicated that the university had 12,000 students, and pointed out that this number was rising continuously, spurring economic vitality in the region. Yannakidis said: Our region has no rivals in sugar beet, tomato, tobacco and aromatic plants. Energy and farming are the two most important areas, where cooperation can be done. Nikolaos Angelidis, the Chairman of Rhodope Chamber of Commerce and Industry who received the ICOC delegation in his office, said that joint projects, that would transform Komotini and Western Thrace into a commercial centre, could be carried out. Referring that Turkish businessmen can start doing business in the region in a short time without any problems, Angelidis stressed that initially cooperation can be done in the area of energy and commerce sectors in the region which is situated at the crossroads of Thrace and Macedonia. Yan sanayi firmalarının yurtdışına açılmasına öncülük eden Borsa nın 2 bin 230 üyesi var. Bu firmaların büyük bir çoğunluğunu KOBİ ler oluşturuyor. TYSB sadece İstanbul değil Türkiye genelindeki yan sanayi firmalarını yurtdışındaki ana sanayi firmalarıyla buluşturuyor. The Turkish Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (TSPX), set up under the auspices of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), celebrates its 20th anniversary. TSPX has become a platform for the promotion of Turkish subcontracting potential with works related to promotion and matchmaking inquiries targeting particularly the European contractors. Having matched foreign buyers with domestic subcontractors for the last 20 years, TSPX has also facilitated the entry of many subcontractors in foreign markets. FIRST STEPS WITH THE UNITED NATIONS 1990, in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) established the first and only Subcontracting Exchange in Turkey. Formerly called the Istanbul Subcontracting Exchange, the unit was later renamed as the Turkish Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange to reflect the national characteristics of its operations. The provision of manufacturing and services predominantly by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in line with the technical design and specifications pre-defined by the contractor is called Industrial Subcontracting. Units set up within the context of industrial subcontracting with the aim to match the subcontracting companies with the contractor inquiries and to guide them through every stage from manufacturing to marketing are defined as Subcontracting Exchange. The Turkish Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange, the first and only example of its kind in the country on the subject of matching technical inquiries, provides to its over 2,000 members domestic, as well as international, services. TSPX acts as a technical information databank between the contractors and the subcontractors and as an office for the development of commerce, contributing thereby for the increase of utilisation ratios and productivity in the sectors. The Exchange provides services not only to subcontractors in Istanbul, that are members of ICOC, but to all qualified subcontractor companies operating across Turkey. During this period, matchmaking between foreign contractors and more than 2,000 subcontractor companies, located in different cities ranging from Eskişehir to İstanbul, from Elazığ to Samsun, which strive to access foreign markets, has been carried out. WHICH SERVICES DO OFFER IT? Matchmaking: The Turkish Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange aims to increase the matchmaking services provided to subcontractors all over Turkey that are members of the Exchange. According to survey works carried out with subcontracting companies in 2009, 61 percent of the member companies received inquiries from inside the country and abroad via the TSPX. Partnership Days: The matchmaking and face-to- face communication between contractor companies and the most suitable subcontractors according to the needs for parts, components, modules and production techniques pre-determined by contractor s procurement officials are carried out within the scope of the Partnership Days. Profile of Turkish Subcontracting Exchange members It is comprised of companies operating in the metal works, plastics, rubber, electrics and electronics sectors. It has 2,230 members 81 percent of its members are SMEs 77.5 percent of the members concentrate in the metal work sector, 9.2 percent in plastic & rubber, and 3.4 percent in electrics-electronics-electro mechanics sectors. With 50.26 percent, the automotive sector is leading the sectors receiving services. International subcontracting fairs: The national participation of companies in international subcontracting fairs is organised by the Exchange. To date, around 3,000 companies have exhibited their products under the leadership of TSPX at around 100 international subcontracting fairs held in countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Morocco and the USA. Study visits abroad: Alongside the participation in fairs, study visits to fairs in certain countries are organised every year in order to monitor closely trends in international markets and the latest technological developments. Study visits to the Hannover Industry Fair Z-Subcontracting Fair, the AAPEX Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo and MIDEST Industrial Subcontracting Show are leading these study visits. Seminar-panel-conferences: TSPX brings together the relevant experts at various meetings in order to meet the needs of information on various subjects by the member subcontracting companies and to monitor the agenda on current matters. Training targeting subcontractors: Training programmes targeting subcontracting companies which include subjects such as methods and strategies, that are needed for them to become contractor suppliers, relations with procurement officials, norms and standards to be complied with, rules that need to be paid attention during the process from the placement of the order to the delivery of the product, quality, price, logistics terminology, etc are organised. Publications: TSPX publishes books with the aim to identify the developing subcontracting markets in the world and to promote these markets in the domestic sectors. The Subcontracting Exchange Member Profile Research, published regularly for the last 4 years, is one of these publications. Osmanlı Misafirperverliği ve Avrupa daki Yankıları 1848 1849 Avrupa İhtilalleri'nden sonra Osmanlı Devleti ne sığınan Macar ve Polonyalı mültecilerin, Rusya ve Avusturya'nın savaş tehditlerine rağmen korunmaları Osmanlı'nın misafirperverliğinin önemli göstergelerindendi. Bu tutumun Avrupa daki yansımalarının incelendiği kitap, Avrupa gözüyle Osmanlı konusuna önemli bir katkı niteliğinde. Kitap İngilizce ve Türkçe olarak ayrı ayrı basıldı. Nutuk, Tıpkıbasım ve Çevrimyazı Atatürk ün Milli Mücadele dönemini özetlediği büyük Nutuk u çeşitli vasıflarda, onlarca kere yayınlandı. Ancak eski yazı olarak yayınlanan ilk baskısının teknik kalitesini hiçbir baskı yakalayamadı. Meaning Maps of the City: Istanbul in Gravures This book printed both in Turkish and English, takes the reader to a journey into the past of İstanbul in company with the engravings. The book is an excellent example of how engravings, which are the earliest visual material in history, can reflect the meaning in a city. Our Traders with Musical Skill The work is a good indicator, that trade men do not just do business. Songs selected from Classical Turkish Music lyrics and compositions of these trade men having different interests, were compiled into 2 music CDs and sang by Melahat Gülses in a project materialized by ICOC. Ottoman Hospitality and its Impact in Europe After the 1848-1849 revolutions, the protection of Hungarian and Polish refugees seeking asylum in the Ottoman Empire, despite threats of war by Russia and Austria, was a good indicator of Ottoman hospitality. The book that studies the reverberations of this action in Europe makes an important contribution to the subject of Ottomans from the European point of view. The book was printed in Turkish and English. Oration: The Exact Copy and Translation Atatürk s great Oration summarizes the Turkish National Struggle for Independence and was published tons of times in various formats. But none of them could capture the technical quality of the first print in old Turkish. Kemal Batanay The book tells the life story, memoirs and anecdotes of calligrapher, composer, tambur player, Hafiz Kemal Batanay. The second edition was printed following the success of the first edition in 2006. The book was prepared by Batanay s student Prof. Dr Muhittin Serin after a long term investigation of the memoirs, documents, archives and photos.
