TAGES NETWORK MAP TAGES is founded in 1996 by determining its company vision as becoming one of the leading international technology transfer companies by producing and disseminating innovative knowledge and technology in Turkey. As a technology transfer centre, TAGES provides cooperation between Turkey and Europe, as well as other countries. Since 2002, TAGES develops EU Framework Programme projects and provides consulting services to Turkish SMEs, and takes part in FP projects as a partner. In the present document, institutions taking part in the TAGES Network are examined in order to get a general view of the composition of the TAGES Network. 1811 institutions taking part in the TAGES Network are analyzed in order to prepare the present map. The analysis is made upon the institutions networked and is based on 5 major criteria: location, sector, institution type, business type and area. TAGES NETWORK BY LOCATION TAGES Network distribution based on the location is shown by the following 3 charts; CHART 1. TAGES NETWORK Institutions in The Countries 4 Institutions in Turkey 58%

CHART 2. TAGES INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OTHERS 31% EU ASSOCIATED AND CANDIDATE STATES 5% EU MEMBER STATES 64% As seen on the first chart, 4 of the institutions are in foreign countries and 58% of the institutions are in Turkey. TAGES has more collaboration with Turkish institutions than foreign institutions. Among the foreign institutions (institutions having their headquarters in Turkey are not included) with whom TAGES collaborates, EU member states have a dominant ratio, as seen on the Chart 2. Among EU member countries, German institutions take the first place with 13%, followed by Italian (10%), Spanish (9%), Belgian (9%), English and Greek (7%), and Polish (4%) institutions (Chart 3). The number of universities from United Kingdom and Germany are also remarkable. Among EU associated/candidate countries Poland, Romania and Bulgaria take the head with their companies and universities collaborated.

As it is seen on the Chart 4, TAGES Network concentrates mainly on Information & Communication Technology (21%), Services/Consultancy (17%) and Science & Technology (11%). Also the rates of Education/Research and Machinery/Instrument sectors are remarkable.

Machinery/Instrument and Energy are also important sectors with whom TAGES has cooperation. Sectors that are indicated on the chart as other are spread on a wide domain such as fisheries and forestry.

Collaboration with Science & Technology sector is more remarkable with foreign institutions than Turkish institutions. Moreover, collaboration with Machinery/Instruments and Energy sector has a dominant ratio in Turkey with respect to foreign countries.

NGOs, universities and research institutions follow the private sector with 9%, 8% and 8%.

NGOs and universities follow the private sector with 8% and 5%, respectively (Chart 5.1.). As seen on the Chart 5.2., 55% of the foreign institutions in TAGES Network are operating in private sector. Universities and research institutions follows the private sector with 14% and 16% respectively. In TAGES Network, after Private Institutions, Research Institutions in foreign countries have a dominant ratio according to other sectors unlike in Turkey.

TAGES NETWORK BY BUSINESS TYPES In TAGES Network, the institutions in Turkey and foreign countries are also defined by business types in Information& Communication Technology, Machinery/Instrument and Energy sectors The business types of each sector are shown by the three charts below; CHART 6. This is followed by research and consultancy although there is a fair difference between these and software development. Business types that are indicated on the chart as other spread on a wide domain such as Venture Capital, Web Hosting and more.

Chart 6.3. shows that as in the Machinery/Instrument sector Manufacturing institutions have the highest share in TAGES network in Energy sector. Also institutions in consultancy and R&D in energy, constitute a remarkable portion in the network. Business types that are indicated on the chart as other spread on a wide domain; such as engineering, recycling, system development and more.

As seen on the charts above; ERP is the most concentrated area for ICT sector in TAGES network and other dominant areas are CRM and e-business. Also the number of institutions in e-learning and security areas is remarkable. Chart 7.1 shows that institutions in technology transfer have the highest ratio and it is followed by institutions in science and security areas. CHART 7.2. TAGES NETWORK BY AREAS OF ENERGY SECTOR (%) 0,25 0,2 0,15 0,1 0,05 0 Wind Energy Solar Energy Renewable Energy Heating & Cooling Geothermal Energy Management Energy Efficiency E nvironment Evaluating the areas of sectors of Machinery/Instruments and Energy, it is seen that most of the institutions in TAGES Network is involved in Wind Energy and Automotive. Wind Energy is followed by Solar Energy, Renewable Energy and Heating & Cooling which are almost sharing same ration. (Chart7.3.) In Machinery, rates of all the areas are so close to each other. Automotive is followed by Air Compressors, and Pumping Industry as seen on the Chart 7.2.

RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS 58% of the institutions in TAGES network reside in Turkey while 4 of the institutions reside in foreign countries. TAGES mostly cooperates with institutions in EU Member States (64%) and afterwards with other countries (%31) and EU Associated and Candidate States (5%) The countries with which TAGES cooperates most are Germany, Italy and Spain. ICT, Services/Consultancy, Education/Research and Science & Technology are the main sectors that TAGES has cooperation. TAGES mostly cooperates with the institutions in private sector.
