4 BAŞKANDAN FROM CHAIRMAN BAŞKANDAN FROM CHAIRMAN D eğerli Okuyucular, 2012 yılının son çeyreğine girdiğimiz bu günlerde, yılın geneline ilişkin bir değerlendirmede bulunmak ve 2013 e ışık tutmak amacıyla bu sayımızın kapak konusunu 2012 yıl sonu beklenilerimiz olarak belirledik. Bazı üyelerimiz ile yaptığımız keyifli sohbetlerle global firmaların düşüncelerini sizlerle paylaştık. Bu vesileyle, ben de genel bir değerlendirme yapmak isterim. Bildiğiniz gibi, dünyada ekonomik belirsizlik sürmekte, buna bağlı olarak sabit bir risk algısı oluşamamaktadır. Özellikle Avrupa daki borç krizi ve bu ülkelerdeki düşük büyüme süreci, global ekonomiyi olumsuz etkilemektedir. Seçim sürecine giren ABD ekonomisinde ise halen sürdürülebilir bir ekonomik toparlanma gerçekleşmemiştir. Krizin başladığı dönemlerden farklı olarak, gelişmekte olan ekonomilerin performanslarında da düşüş gözlemlenmekte, global ortamdaki bu yavaşlamanın sürmesi beklenmektedir. Böyle bir ortamda Türkiye nin mali ve siyasi istikrarını koruması daha da önem taşımaktadır. Keza, üyelerimiz arasında yılda iki kez gerçekleştirdiğimiz Barometre Anketinin 2012 yılı 2. Dönem sonuçlarına göre, üyelerimiz en çok uluslararası piyasalarda yaşanan finansal krizin daha da derinleşmesinden tedirginlik duymaktadır. Bunun hemen ardından büyümenin sürdürülebilir olmaması endişesi gelmiştir. Türkiye, sermayenin kısıtlandığı böyle bir makroekonomik ortamda hedeflerine ulaşmak açısından çok daha zorlu şartlarda rekabet etmek zorundadır. Özellikle, yapısal bir sorun olarak karşımıza çıkan cari açık ve enflasyon ile mücadelede sürdürülebilirliğin sağlanması yakalanmalıdır. YASED olarak, 2012 yılsonunda cari açığın milli gelire oranının %7,5 civarında gerçekleşeceğini öngörmekteyiz. At this juncture I too would like to make a general assessment. As you know, uncertainty continues in the world economy and as a result a fixed risk perception cannot take shape. Particularly the European debt crisis and the low growth rates in these countries are having a negative impact on the global economy. The US economy in the midst of its election cycle has still been unable to achieve a sustainable economic recovery. In contrast with the period when the crisis started, a fall in the economic performance of developing economies has also been observed, a global slowdown that is expected to continue. In such an environment it becomes all the more important for Turkey to maintain its financial and political stability. Moreover, according to the results of our second six-monthly Barometer Survey of 2012 our members are most concerned about the deepening financial crisis on the international markets. Immediately after that comes the concerns for "sustainable growth." Turkey is forced to compete under much tougher conditions in a macroeconomic environment where capital is limited. It is particularly important in the struggle against the systemic problem of the current account deficit and inflation where sustainability must be achieved. At YASED, we project a ratio of the current account deficit to national income of around 7.5%. YASED olarak, uluslararası konjonktürdeki gelişmeler ve küresel ekonomideki mevcut risklere bağlı olarak, Türkiye ye 2012 yılı sonu itibariyle milyar $ arasında bir UDY akışı beklemekteyiz. Bundan sonraki süreç için YOİKK platformunda da, çözümü yönünde takvime bağlanan ve biz uluslararası yatırımcılar için büyük önem taşıyan aksiyon planları bulunmaktadır. Bu planların tamamlanmasının, yerli ve yabancı tüm yatırımcıların önceliği olan konularda sağlanacak iyileşmelerin, doğrudan yatırımlar üzerinde yaratacağı olumlu etkiler tartışmasızdır. Türkiye'de bulunan en büyük uluslararası doğrudan yatırımcı şirketlerin üst düzey temsilcileri ve YASED olarak görevimizin: Temsil ettiğimiz şirketlerin yeni yatırımlarını ülkemize çekmek, Mevcut işlerimizi yatırımlarla büyüterek ülkemiz için daha fazla yüksek katma değer ve istihdam yaratmak, ve Yeni uluslararası doğrudan yatırımların Türkiye'ye çekilmesinde aracı ve yardımcı olmak, olduğuna inanıyoruz. Çünkü biz yatırımcılar ile ülke ekonomisi arasında kazankazan şeklinde doğrudan bir bağ bulunduğuna ve karşılıklı fayda yarattığımıza inanıyoruz. Ülkemiz büyüdükçe şirketlerimiz, şirketlerimiz büyüdükçe Türkiye miz büyüyecektir. is parallel to a 3.5% growth and an anticipated year end current deficit of around $60 billion. However it is of great importance that the current account deficit be reduced in the coming periods, that stability be maintained so that a sustainable rate of growth may also continue, that structural reforms be continued and that value-added investment be increased. In this connection the contribution of direct international investment to the national economy is also necessary with respect to continued investments in such strategic fields as technology, innovation, and efficiency. At YASED, based on developments on the international conjuncture and current risks in the global economy, we anticipate an FDI flow of $15-20 billion to Turkey as of year-end Also on the YOİKK platform are action plans for the coming process that are very important for us as international investors and have set dates leading toward a solution. The beneficial effects of the completion of these plans and the improvements to be made in areas of priority for both domestic and foreign investors upon direct investments is indisputable. We believe that our duties as the senior representatives of the largest direct investment companies and YASED are: To attract the new investments of the companies we represent to our country, To grow our current operations through growth to create more value added and employment for our country, and To mediate and assist in attracting new international direct investment to Turkey. And this is because we believe that there is a direct "win-win" connection between investors and the national economy that engenders mutual benefit. Türkiye nin enerjik ve girişimci bir ülke olduğuna dikkat çeken üst düzey yöneticiler, temsil ettikleri şirketlerin Türkiye de yatırımlarını artırarak devam edeceğini söylüyorlar. D ünyanın pek çok ülkesinde merkez bankalarının faizleri sıfıra yaklaştırarak, büyüme ve istihdamı desteklemek için ekonomilerini likiditeye boğduklarını söyleyen uzmanlar; ekonomik teşviklerin piyasaları destekleyeceğinden yatırımcıların 2012 in keyfini çıkarması gerektiğini, ekonominin 2013 ve 2014 te gevşek para politikalarıyla desteklenmeyeceğini belirtiyorlar. I guess the most important change in the industry takes place in the character of the competition. We believe banking industry will continue performing its part both in terms of increasing the domestic saving ratio and productive use of the resources in economy, given the fact that banking sector is shown as one of the main pillars in Turkey s development plan for the next 10 years, and thus maintain its position as the safe anchor of the country. Abay summed her assessments on the present state and direction of Turkey s banking sector as follows: The banking and finance industries have not saturated yet. Loans-to-GDP ratio, which stood at 49% in 2011, is still way behind the developed economies (This ratio was 162% in EU in 2009). A young and growing population brings with it a serious growth potential. Consumer banking continues to be an area of significant growth. Household indebtedness is still very low. Therefore, the growth potential for the banking industry stays there. However, what is essential here is to maintain a stable and sustainable growth in the economic activity. In other words, all structural improvements of the Turkish economy along these lines will have positive reflections on the banking sector. We all know the targets for the next 10 years and our strategies are ready to reach these targets, so we are in a period of exercise. Strengthening of the data, transparency, corporate and legal infrastructure will become increasingly more important to ensure the success in this exercise and participation of the entire Turkey to this effort. 14 ekim / october

Kısacası, hem Türk ekonomisinin, hem de enerji sektörünün geleceği çok parlak görünüyor şeklinde konuşmasını sürdürdü. He indicated that the biggest problem of the industry is again the unregistered products. We are making efforts not only for using our suppliers fully for our products in Turkey, but also for supporting their opening out to global markets and for increasing their capacity. Aside from that, Siemens has a global procurement policy. Under this project, direct procurement is made from the selected countries and Turkey is one of these countries. On factors that may trigger the growth in the industry, Gelis said: I believe the government s investment strategies are successful. These strategies will trigger the growth in the industry in return. It is also very important for Turkey to be in good terms both domestically and with other countries. Avrupa daki partnerlerimize baktığımız zaman Avrupa da her geçen gün tansiyon yükseliyor şeklinde konuşmasını sürdürdü. Gümüşoğlu, yaşanan ekonomik sıkıntılara karşı çeşitli önlemler aldıklarını, servis kalitesini kuvvetlendirerek, nakliyecilerle birlikte yeni sistemler geliştirerek, sevkiyatları deniz, tren ve karayolu üçgeninde gerçekleştirdiklerini ve böylece yeşil taşımacılık alanında avantaj sağladıklarına dikkat çekti. U.N Ro-Ro nun en çok otomotiv yedek parçası ve tekstil ürünlerifabrika yedek parçası, makine teçhizatları- taşıdıklarını belirten Gümüşoğlu, İstanbul ve çevre kentlerin sanayisinin küçüldüğünü, Anadolu daki sanayicilerin daha iyi performans gösterdiğini açıkladı. Gümüşoğlu ülke ekonomisi hakkında şunları söyledi: İthalat ve ihracat rakamlarına baktığımızda Türkiye de bir sorun görünmüyor. İşsizlik rakamlarına bakıldığında %8 lerde seyrediyor. Orada da sıkıntı yok. Cari açık azaldı, kur kontrol altında, ekonomi biraz frenlenmeye çalışılıyor. Bütçe açık verdiğinde vergilerle kapatılıyor, mali bütçeye sonuna kadar sadık kalınıyor. Genel anlamda bir problem yok ama sürdürülebilirlik anlamında bakıldığında bizim iş yaptığımız iş ortaklarımızın durumunun kötü olması bizi orta vadede probleme sokacaktır. Bundan dolayı yeni pazarlar anlamında önlemler alınmalıdır.afrika ve Karadeniz hattına bakıyoruz. Bizim Avrupa ya ticaretimiz hiçbir zaman durmayacak. Gümüşoğlu drew attention to the fact that various precautions against economic hardships were taken, service quality was strengthened, and, together with the effort of transporters, new systems were developed, in order to accomplish shipment in the triangle of maritime, rail and road. Thus, many advantages in the field of green shipping were provided. Gümüşoğlu explained that U.N Ro-Ro, carrying the most automotive, textile and factory spare part products, as well as machinery equipments, reduced its industry in Istanbul and surrounding cities. On the other hand, industrialists in Anatolia have showed a better performance. Regarding the country's economy, Gümüşoğlu added: In Turkey there is no problem when we look at import and export figures. Watching the unemployment rate, we observe that the 8% is also no problem. Current account deficits have been reduced, and exchange rates are under control, the government tries to slow down the economy. If there is a fiscal deficit, it is covered with taxes and strict adherence to the financial discipline. Generally speaking, there is no problem, but in terms of sustainability we do have a problem since, our business partners are not in a good position. In terms of new markets, therefore, precautions should be taken. We closely watch the African and Black Sea routes. Our dealings with Europe will never stop. However, with each passing day, Europe s value can comparatively be seen on a decline for our company and Turkey. If we consider each country individually, agreements made with a single purchaser or vendor, are always fragile. Therefore, regarding a country's economy, the wider we spread our service, the better it is. Equal accounting and auditing standards will provide uniformity and have a positive effect on competition. For joint stock companies, lowering the minimum share holder number to 1 absolves the person who actually provides the capital and takes the risk from finding symbolic shareholders and dealing with associated risks. Tele/video conferences as viable solutions for board of directors meetings and the acceptance of s as valid and binding correspondences between companies are positive. Companies subject to independent auditing are obliged to create a web site. Associate Professor Gül Okutan Nilsson shared important clauses related to the requirements brought by the Law about the Board of Directors, General Assembly Joint Stock Companies, Conditional Capital Increase, Group Companies, Advance Dividend Distribution and Treasury Stock. The implementation process of the Law will be followed up closely by YASED in the coming term. Information and Communication Technologies Report underpins the growth of the industry in Turkey YASED ICT Working Group Chairman Dr. Murad Ardaç stressed the fact that ICT industry had a vast application area extending from individual to public domains. A growth by 1-unit in ICT value chain leads to a growth by 1.8 unit in the overall economy through increasing productivity, innovation, competitiveness and sustainability. The industry which generated a turnover of $ 30 billion in 2011 needs to grow at a faster rate in order to catch the government s 2023 target of $ 160 billion. We may well end up at an area around $ 120 billion in 2023 way behind the target - despite efficient implementation of the currently foreseen projects such as extending the use of broadband access, FATİH Project, increase in public sector purchases, lowering of the communication taxes, taking measures against software piracy, and cloud computing Ardaç added. He also mentioned the ICT industry s effects on industries like retail and construction, while also pointing out that, as a user of ICT technologies, the public sector had a vast influence in shaping of the production, financial services and individual use of the ICT technologies. ICT campaign should be started Dr. Murad Ardaç also suggested that, a Dedicated ICT Campaign should be announced and go beyond the settlement of the immediate problems and handicaps voiced by the industry players and gradual improvements in the designated areas. He added that as YASED ICT Working Group, they believed transformation of the information and technology into product should be promoted and contributed through closely working with the private sector on R&D and innovation fronts in order to create a foreseeable and sustainable investment environment, a fact also provided by the program of the 61st Government. 26 ekim / october

Taşo said that, at IBM, they reached all parts of the world in offering their products in order to secure revenue increases in new markets, too, with the help of the new capabilities provided by the new products developed or sold. Selim Taşo said that finance departments of companies that can create awareness and differentiate themselves from other companies have an organizational structure that can add value and integrate the values, underlining that these companies reached success thanks to their successful change policies. Culture affects work discipline Samsung Turkey HHP Group Director Selçuk Mirza stressed the importance of the culture of the country and prevailing perception of the work discipline in this country. He showed Korea as an example of this, saying that Korea s present point was greatly helped by its culture while Koreans made very successful agreements after 1970 and they worked with devotion for the development of their country. He also said that Korea used the existing resources and potentials very well even at the most difficult times. Türkiye de mobil iletişim sektörü 55 bin kişiyi istihdam ediyor Panelde mobil iletişim sektörünü değerlendiren GSMA Düzenleyici Politikalar Birimi Direktörü Adam Denton, sektörün Türk ekonomisine 28,8 milyar TL katkıda bulunduğunu, 55 bin kişiye dolaylı, 150 bin kişiye ise doğrudan olarak istihdam sağladığına dikkat çekti. Türkiye de daha optimal vergilendirme rejimi kabul edildiği takdirde sektörün, ülkeye ekonomik katkısının daha fazla olacağını belirten Denton, mobil iletişim vergilerinde diğer sektörlere göre ayrımcılık yapıldığını vurguladı. Turkey s mobile communication industry employs 55 thousand people Speaking in the panel, GSMA Head of Regulatory Policy Adam Denton provided an assessment of the Turkish mobile communication industry, saying that the industry contributed TL 28.8 billion to the Turkish economy, employing 55 thousand people directly, and 150 thousand people indirectly. Denton said that the industry s contribution to the Turkish economy would be a lot more if the country adopts a more optimal taxation regime, pointing out that the present mobile communication taxes posed a discrimination against the ITC industry. Avrupa Birliği çerçevesinde, hiçbir AB ülkesinin benzer bir ücret uygulaması gerçekleştirmediğini, operatörlerin pazarda rekabet edebilmesi için vergi azaltılması gerektiğini aktaran Denton, hükümet adına operatörleri tarafından tüketicilerin toplanan vergilerin şeffaf olmadığını söyledi. Y OİKK (Yatırım Ortamını İyileştirme Koordinasyon Kurulu) bünyesinde ilgili tarafarın katılımı ile çalışan 10 Teknik Komite, Haziran Haziran 2013 dönemi eylem planlarını belirlediler. YOİKK platformunun TOBB, TÜSİAD ve TİM ile birlikte 4 ana özel sektör üyesinden biri olan YASED in önerileri de eylem planlarında yerini aldı. Sözkonusu eylem planı maddeleri, 2 Ağustos tarihinde Sayın Zafer Çağlayan başkanlığında yapılan YOİKK toplantısı ile resmiyet kazanarak kamuoyuna açıklandı. Bu kapsamda, tam 150 öğrencinin bu projeden yararlanması sağlandı. Öğrenciler, YASED üyesi olan önde gelen şirketlerde yaptıkları stajların yanında çok değerli eğitimcilerin gönüllü katılımları ile eşsiz bir eğitim programına dahil oldular. The 4th Koza Project, initiated by YASED to provide guidance to young people, the nation's future leaders, by helping them shape their careers, has been successfully completed. A total of 150 students had the opportunity to benefit from the project. Hence the students had the opportunity to both participate in a distinguished traning program and intem at leading YASED member companies. Y ASED in üniversite öğrencilerini iş hayatıyla tanıştırmak ve kariyerlerini şekillendirmelerine yardımcı olmak amacıyla yürüttüğü Koza Projesi nin 4 üncüsü, 13 Ağustos Pazartesi günü Vodafone Genel Merkezi nde düzenlenen törenle sona erdi. Kapanış toplantısında YASED üyeleri şirketlerde staj yapan 150 öğrenciye sertifikaları verildi. Sertifikalar, öğrencilerin tamamına tek tek firma mentorleri tarafından takdim edildi. Özellikle az gelişmiş kalan bölgelerde bulunan öğrencilere fırsat eşitliği sunma amacını güden projeye 60 şirket destek verdi. Öğrenciler stajlarına 9 Temmuz 2012'de başladılar ve ilk 3 gün YASED in eğitim ve oryantasyon programına tabi tutuldular. 30 gün süren staj boyunca öğrencilerin konaklama masrafarı dail her türlü ihtiyaçları YASED ve YASED üyesi şirketlerce karşılandı. Törende öncelikle Düşler Akademisi nin Koza Projesi ne yönelik hazırlamış olduğu belgesel sunuldu. Törenin açılış konuşmasını Proje Lideri Zuhal Çivi gerçekleştirdi. Çivi konuşmasında, projenin bu yıl dördüncüsünü gerçekleştirmiş olmalarına rağmen heyecanlarını kaybetmediklerini belirterek, Fırsat eşitliği, yeni ufuklar açmak için yola çıktığımız Koza Projesi nin 4. sünü de başarıyla tamamladık diye konuşmasını sürdürdü. Stajlarını tamamlayan öğrencilerin gelecekteki iş hayatlarında nelerle karşılaşacaklarını, farklı kişileri, farklı departmanları tanıma fırsatı bulduklarını ifade eden Çivi, Stajlarınız sayesinde pek çoğunuz geleceğini nasıl şekillendireceğine karar verdi, disiplinli çalışma hayatının ne kadar önemli olduğunun farkına vardı, yabancı dil öğrenmenin bir zorunluluk olduğunu kavradı dedi. Zuhal Çivi said, "We have successfully completed the 4th Koza Project, with which we aimed to promote equal opportunities and open new horizons." T he 4th implementation of YASED's Koza Project, which aims to help introduce university students to professional life and develop their careers, was concluded with a ceremony held at Vodafone Head Office on Monday, August 13. At this final gathering 150 students interning at YASED member companies were presented with their certificates by corporate mentors. The students started their internships on July 9, 2012 and underwent a training and orientation program for the first three days. Throughout the 30-dayinternship, the students were provided with all their needs such as accommodation expenses by YASED and YASED member companies. Firstly, a documentary on the Project shot by the Dreams Academy was presented during the ceremony. Opening address of the ceremony was made by Zuhal Çivi, Project Leader. Staj yaptığım şirkette yaklaşık 110 kadar daha stajyer stajına benimle başladı. After explaining how the students who completed their internships had an opportunity to get to know what they would encounter in their future professional lives, meeting different people and working in different departments, Çivi said, "Thanks to your internships many of you have decided how you will develop your future, realized the importance of a disciplined working life, and grasped that learning a foreign language is indispensable." Touching on the group set up on social networking site Facebook as part of the Koza Project and how it has helped students to keep in touch, Çivi pointed out that those who have met through their internships will be able to support one another in the future. After the speech by Çivi students were asked about what they had experienced and learnt through Koza Project. Koza was a great opportunity Şafak Yalçındağ, a student at the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, "As the architect of my own career path, I feel I have taken the first step toward laying a strong foundation with the experience gained through the Koza Project, which turned the disadvantages of the place where I was born and schooled into advantages to lay strong foundations for a successful professional life. At the company where I did my internship around 110 other interns started along with me. My theoretical and practical knowledge was very good compared with many of them, yet I observed that some were instilled with more self-confidence than me. Personally I can say that this project was a great opportunity to find that problem and solve it. Throughout the internship at the company I was directed to receive the best training. There was a question everybody in the company asked: Whose reference had got me accepted as an intern? All the interns there had got in with a reference. For such an opportunity to be offered to me in this context was a great opportunity." Hayatımın 30 altın gününü İstanbul'da geçirdim I spent the 30 golden days of my life in Istanbul Fırat Üniversitesi nde Kimya Bölümünü bitiren ve projeye Elazığ dan katılan Ali Kurtul, Koza Projesi ile ilgili şunları söyledi: 23 yaşındayım. YASED in projesini şans eseri internette gördüm. Hemen formu doldurdum ve birkaç hafta sonra mülakat daveti geldi. Bir kere rüya şehir İstanbul a gitmek ve orada sınırsızca gezmek hayatımda hiçbir zaman mümkün olmamıştı. İstanbul da görmediğim yer kalmadı gibi bir şey. Katıldığımız seminerlere Türkiye nin hatrı sayılır eğitmenleri geldi. Örnek gösterilen işadamları arasında benim idolüm hayata sıfırdan başlamış, yokluğu görmüş, ancak şimdi restoranları olan ve hazır dondurulmuş gıda devi bir şirketin Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı ve Sahan Restoranları nın sahibi Tahir Tekin Özkan olmuştu. Hayatıma anı olacak 30 altın gün oldu benim için İşin bizi seçtiği değil, bizim işi seçtiğimiz bir gelecek KTÜ İşletme Bölümü 4. sınıf öğrencisi Özgür Öztürk, Koza Projesi kapsamında YASED stajyeri olarak stajını tamamladı. Staj hakkında düşüncelerini bizlerle paylaşan Özgür: Bizlere yaz döneminde belki de çoğumuzun ulaşılması güç diye nitelendirdiği firmalarda staj yapma ve İstanbul a gelme olanağı veren YASED ailesine sizlerin ve kendim adına teşekkürü bir borç bilirim. İstanbul, kimimiz için bilinmeyen bir denklem, kimimiz için içinden çıkılamaz karmaşık bir yapı, kimimiz için de korkutucuydu. Buna rağmen acısıyla tatlısıyla yaklaşık 1 ay gibi bir süre hem profesyonel iş hayatının içerisinde bulunduk hem de yeni insanlar tanıma fırsatı bulduk. Eminim ki bu yaz dönemi ileriki iş hayatımızda hep bir artı olarak aklımızda bulunacaktır. Sonuç olarak hepimiz seçilmiş birer öğrenci olarak bu projeye dahil olduk ve alnımızın akıyla sonuna kadar gelmeyi başarabildik. Her birimiz kendimizi rakiplerimize göre bir adım daha önde görmeliyiz. " Ali Kurtul, graduate of the Fırat University Department of Chemistry and participating the project from Elazığ, said: "I am 23 years old. I happened to come across the YASED project on the Internet. I immediately filled in the form and after a few weeks I was invited to an interview. I had never had the opportunity to just come to the dream city of Istanbul and tour it freely. There's virtually nowhere in Istanbul I haven't seen. Turkey's notable trainers came to the seminars we attended. One of the businessmen presented as an example, my idol, had started life with nothing, experienced poverty, but is now the CEO of a company with restaurants and a ready-frozen ice-cream food giant, and the owner of Sahan Restaurants, Tahir Tekin Özkan. They were 30 golden days of memories for my life..." A future where we choose the job, instead of the job choosing us... Fourth year student at the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Business Administration Özgür Öztürk completed his internship as a YASED intern with the Koza Project. Sharing his thoughts on the internship with us, Özgür said, "On behalf of you and myself, I would like to express my debt of gratitude to the YASED family for enabling us to become interns for the summer period at companies that most of us would have thought were inaccessible. "For some Istanbul was an unknown equation, for some unfathomably complicated, and for some frightening. Despite this, for about a month of ups and downs we experienced professional working live as well as meeting new people. I'm sure that this summer period will always stick in my mind as a plus in my working life. "As a result each one of us, students who were selected were included in the project and have made it to the end by the sweat of our brow. Öncelikle birkaç somut veriyi paylaşarak başlamak istiyorum. Son verilere göre şu anda Türkiye de yatırım yaparak faaliyet gösteren 936 İtalyan şirketi var. Bu şirketler Türkiye de otomotivden, gıdaya, beyaz eşyadan mobilyaya ve tekstile kadar İtalya daki tüm üretim çeşitliliğini yansıtacak biçimde yatırım yapıyorlar. Bu şirketlerin büyük bir kısmıyla iletişim ve iş birliği halindeyiz. Türkiye de yatırım yapan İtalyan şirket sayısında son yıllarda ciddi bir artış var. Türkiye de göreve başladığımda, 2010 yılının başında 700 ün üzerinde şirket mevcuttu, şimdilerde ise Türkiye de yatırım yapan İtalyan şirket sayısı 900 ün üzerinde. Bu da yatırımcıların Türkiye yle çok daha fazla ilgilenildiklerinin açık bir göstergesi olduğunu düşünüyorum. Peki, bu artan ilginin nedenleri sizce neler? Bize bu konuda bilgi verebilir misiniz? İtalyan şirketleri açısından bakıldığında Türkiye de yatırım yapmanın avantajları sizce nelerdir? İlk olarak şunu söyleyebilirim; İtalyan şirketleri bu ülkenin ekonomik gelişimine ve tabii ki istikrarına yürekten inanmaktalar. Bu aslında yeni bir şey değil ama İtalyan şirketleri Türkiye ye yatırım yapmaya çok uzun yıllar önce başladılar. Türkiye de 50 yıl önce açılan üretim tesisleri var, örneğin Fiat ve Pirelli 50 yılı aşkın zamandır Türkiye de faaliyet göstermekte. Bunlar oldukça büyük yatırımlar. Bu çok uzun yıllar önce hayata geçen yatırımların yanı sıra çok yakın zamanda hayat bulan yatırımlar da mevcut. Buna örnek olarak son on yılda bankacılık sektöründeki gerçekleşen yatımları görebiliriz. İtalyan şirketleri için Türkiye nin bir yatırım merkezi olarak cazip olmasının ikinci sebebinin de fiziki yakınlık olduğunu belirtmeliyim. YOL HARİTASI ROAD MAP C onsul General of Italy, Gianluca Alberini, indicates that the number of Italian companies operating in Turkey have increased exponentially in the last three years. He says that currently, a total of 936 Italian companies carry out production in the country and underlines that in the year 2012, they have issued over 80 thousand visas: This is a very rapidly growing activity. When I first came to Turkey, the number was 52 thousand. An increase of 30 thousand in two years has been quite a noticeable growth. First of all, how do you assess the approach of Italian companies towards investing in Turkey? Could you share your opinion on this issue with us? Principally, I would like to share some concrete data. According to the most recent data, there are currently 936 Italian companies investing and operating in Turkey. These companies invest in Turkey in a way that reflects the entire range of production in Italy; from automotive, furniture and textile, to food and white goods. We maintain contact and cooperation with a significant portion of these companies. There has been a large increase in the number of Italian companies that have invested in Turkey in the recent years. At the beginning of 2010, there were more than 700 companies, when I took charge of my duty in Turkey. Currently the number is above 900 Italian companies that invest into Turkey. I believe this is a clear indication that investors are taking an increased interest in Turkey today. What do you think are the reasons for this increased interest? Could you tell us about that? What do you think are the advantages of making investments in Turkey for Italian companies? First of all, I can say that Italian companies strongly believe in the country s economic development and of course, its stability. In fact, this is not new; Italian companies began to invest in Turkey many years ago. There are production facilities that were commissioned 50 years ago. For instance Fiat and Pirelli have been operating in Turkey for more than 50 years. These are quite sizable investments. In addition to these investments made many years ago, there are also investments that have been made very recently. The investments in the banking industry, which have been realized in the last decade, are a good example of this. I must indicate that secondly, Turkey is an attractive investment location for Italian companies in its physical proximity. Turkey 41

İtalyan işadamlarının Türk pazarına girmeyi çok cazip bulmalarının ana nedenlerinde biri her iki ülke insanının düşünüş tarzı ve davranışlarının birbirine çok benzemesi. Karşılıklı ticaretin gelişmesi de aslında bu yatırımlara bağlı olarak şekilleniyor. Mesela Fiat burada yatırım yapıyor ve daha sonra Türkiye den tüm Avrupa Birliği ülkelerine ihracat yapıyor. Diğer birçok şirket de aynı şekilde Türkiye de üretiyor ve Türkiye den ihraç ediyorlar. Dolayısıyla bu çok kompleks ve katmanlı bir ilişki. İtalya, Türkiye'nin ikinci ticaret ortağı ve iki ülke arasındaki ticaret hacmi yılda yüzde 20'nin üzerinde artış gösteriyor. The other factor is that Italian companies are often cooperating with their Turkish partners here. One of the major reasons that Italian businessmen find entering into the Turkish market very attractive is that, the way of thinking and behavior of the people in both countries are very similar. The business mentality of Italians and Turks are very much alike; they have a lot in common in their way of doing business. I can briefly explain these common points. If you look at the structure of the Italian economy, you see that large groups are managed by family enterprises. This type of similarity make establishing business agreements between Turkey and Italy more likely, compared to the other countries with different styles of doing business. Therefore, Italians have no difficulty coming here and finding a partner, compared to other countries. Another important characteristic of the investments being made is that they reflect on trade. The development of mutual trade is actually shaped based on these investments. For instance, Fiat invests in Turkey and exports to all countries in the European Union from Turkey. Similarly, there are many other companies that manufacture in Turkey and export from Turkey. So this is a very complex and multifaceted relationship. Italy is Turkey s second trade partner and the trade volume between the two countries indicates a growth of more than 20 percent per year. At the same time, Italy is the fifth largest, foreign investor in Turkey. There is such an interesting, strong and intensifying relationship between the two countries. For Italian investors, which industries do you think are the most attractive in Turkey? The Italian economy enjoys a specialized structure in many industries. Among these fields of specialization, I would say that the machinery and automotive and industries are primarily attractive. For this reason, there are investments in these fields in Turkey. As the Italian life style and way of dressing are very well known in Turkey, the companies operating in the fabric industry, for example, are also among the investors. In addition to those, there are very small investors as well, such as the Italian restaurants and ice cream chains opening in Turkey. In short, İtalyan ekonomisi birçok sektörde uzmanlaşmış bir yapıya sahip. Bu uzmanlık alanları içinde ilk sırada otomotiv ve makineyi sayabilirim. O nedenle bu alanda Türkiye de yatırımlar mevcut. İtalyan yaşam ve giyim tarzı Türkiye de çok iyi tanındığı ve bilindiği için mesela kumaş endüstrisinde faaliyet gösteren şirketler de yatırımcılar arasında yer almakta. Bunların yanı sıra çok küçük yatırımcılarımız da var. Örneğin, Türkiye de de açılan İtalyan restoranları ve dondurma zincirleri gibi. Özetle, en küçüğünden en büyüğüne her sektörde yatırımlar var. Ayrıca, bankacılık sektöründe UniCredit ile Yapı Kredi Bankası nın ortaklığının oldukça tatmin edici bir yatırım olduğunu söyleyebilirim. İtalyan yatırımcılar bu konuda nasıl bir somut beklenti içindeler? Aslında İtalyan yatırımcılarının diğer yatırımcılardan farklılaşan istekleri olduğunu söyleyemem. İtalyan yatırımcılar da Türkiye deki yatırımcılarla ortak isteklere sahipler. Şeffafık, daha az bürokrasi, fikri mülkiyet haklarının korunması ya da daha iyi hale getirilmesi. Tüm bunlar daha adil bir rekabet ortamının oluşabilmesi açısından oldukça önemli. Burada üretim yapan birçok İtalyan şirketin ürünleri, İtalyan tasarımını ve teknolojik inovasyonunu barındırıyor. Hükümetin hayata geçirdiği bazı düzenlemelerin yerel otoriteler tarafından uygulanmasının zaman alması dile getirilen şikâyetler arasında yer alıyor. Biraz da İtalya hakkında konuşalım istiyoruz. Bize son zamanlarda İtalya ekonomisi ve yatırım ortamında ne gibi değişimler yaşandığından bahseder misiniz? Kriz, İtalya ekonomisini nasıl etkiledi? İlginç olan krizin bir endüstri krizi olarak başlamaması aslında. Hepimizin bildiği kriz finansal bir kriz olarak başladı. Elbette bu krizin üretime çok büyük bir yansıması oldu. Ancak İtalyan endüstrisi oldukça sağlam ve bu büyük meydan okumayla oldukça iyi bir şekilde mücadele ediyor. Bu mücadelenin ve bu krize from the smallest to the largest, there are investments in every industry. Furthermore, I would say that the partnership between UniCredi and Yapi Kredi Bank in the banking industry has been quite a satisfactory investment. What do you think should be done in order to increase international investments in Turkey? It is actually possible to say that the investments are limited, to a certain extent, as the flow of funds are under pressure due to some sort of crisis in the background. However, despite this, Italian companies maintain their interest in Turkey. There is no decrease in investments. Which legal actions do you think the Turkish government should take in order to support the international investment environment in Turkey? What type of tangible expectations do the Italian investors have regarding this issue? In fact, I cannot say that the Italian investors have any requests different from other investors. Italian investors have the common requests of investors in Turkey. Generally requests are transparency, less bureaucracy, protection of intellectual rights or optimization of these rights. All these are very important for the formation of a fair competitive environment. The products of many Italian companies, which are engaged in production here, feature Italian design and technological innovation. It is among the complaints raised that certain regulations brought to life by the government, take some time to be implemented by the local authorities. 42 ekim / october

İtalyan şirketleri iç piyasalardaki baskıyla yeni pazarlar bulmak ya da var olan eski pazarlardaki güçlerini büyütmek için çaba harcıyorlar. Bu alanda oldukça başarılılar. Bu dönemde ihracat yapan şirketlerin sayısında ciddi bir artış oldu. Büyük şirketler böyle kriz dönemlerinde kendine yetebiliyor ancak küçük ve orta büyüklükteki şirketlerin yardıma ihtiyacı oluyor. Hem hükümet hem de endüstriyel örgütler bu tip şirketlere destek oluyorlar. Ticaret Genel Sekreterliği altındaki bakanlığımızın da en önemli misyonlarından biri bu. We have our Embassy in Ankara, Consulate and Commercial Attaché s Office in Istanbul, and Consulate in Izmir. All units work in coordination with each other and try to relay the requested information to companies. Furthermore we provide support for information flow to the main industrial organizations in Italy. We prepare newsletters on economic opportunities, and this is a part of our routine work in order to provide information. We promote the Italian businessmen to visit Turkey on a regular basis. We host the Turkish businessmen at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We prepare visas for Italian businessmen who would like to take Turkish businessmen and their employees in Turkey to Italy. We have issued more than 80 thousand visas in This is a very rapidly growing activity. This figure was 52 thousand the year when I first arrived in Turkey. Tofaş Group has produced the new Doblo wholly in Turkey and we feel proud about this. This automobile has been exported overseas. Regarding the administration of the Group, Kozanoğlu provided the following information: Currently, members are represented in the Group at the levels of Board Member, General Manager or Deputy General Manager. We determined the arrangement of ad hoc committees on more technical matters if necessary. In the first meeting, the Group elected its member, Aksigorta Assistant General Manager, Fahri Altıngöz, as the Chairman of Working Group. We have started to prepare a Position Paper with the contribution and consensus of all our members. We believe that regulations should be dealt with this kind of sensitivity in the sector which is very crucial in terms of macro balances due to its savings-inducing effect. We also believe that the sector has an unquestionably crucial function on a micro-level too. It assumes the material risks of individuals, it also satisfies long term saving and complementary income needs of individuals and organizations. Logistics and Transportation Working Group, aims to create added value in improving the investment environment for logistics industry. Y ASED Yönetim Kurulu nun tavsiyesi üzerine kurulan Lojistik ve Ulaştırma Çalışma Grubu, 4 Eylül tarihinde 30 a yakın katılımcı ile ilk toplantısını yaparak faaliyetlerine başladı. YASED Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi ve Renault Mais Genel Müdürü İbrahim Aybar ile çalışma grubu hakkında konuştuk. Lojistik ve ulaştırma sektörü, değer zincirindeki rolü dolayısı ile hemen tüm şirketler için hayati önemde, anahtar bir sektör. Aybar added that the Group aims to make assessments on relevant topics, from an international investor s perspective, to create ideas and offer solutions to create added value in improving the investment environment. Aybar stated that they are initially preparing a Position Paper, putting together the common views on the main issues and challenges of the industry. Firstly, there will be a study about land transportation and the relevant laws and regulations within the context of the new Turkish Commercial Code that came into effect this year, in line with the EU harmonization process. Aybar said, giving information about their work. Through a sub-working group meeting on maritime transportation, we will try to put to the fore, the challenges and suggestions for solutions. Another working topic, which is directly related to our daily lives, is going to be citilogistics, which deals with issues such as new urban planning practices, lowering the traffic load, etc. Aybar stated that this group believes Turkey needs to become the logistics hub of the region in order to reach its 2023 goals and to bring that potential out, an integrated strategy supported by infrastructure investments and regulatory work is needed. The industry has quite a wide field of activity which gets deeper day by day and affects the productivity of many industries, he said. Issues such as sea-landair transport, 3PL logistics, and integration of warehouse management and the use of high technology in the industry increase the significance of international know-how. La Tomatina is a tomato fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Buñol near to Valencia. At around 11 am, the first event of the Tomatina begins. Many trucks haul the bounty of tomatoes into the center of the town, Plaza del Pueblo. The signal for the beginning of the fight is firing of water cannons, and the chaos begins. After exactly one hour, the fighting ends when the water cannons are fired once more to signal the end. At this point, no more tomatoes can be thrown. Because of the heat of Spanish summers, many businesses close and Spaniards go on vacations. This is especially the case in Madrid and Seville. This means you'll find that many of the best restaurants and bars are closed. There are also fewer art exhibitions and special events because there's no one there to see them! In winter, everything is open and there will be plenty to do. Apart from beach and water activities, there's little you can do in the summer that you can't do in the winter. What and where should we eat in your country? Over the last years Spanish cuisine has established its position as a leading gastronomic style at an international level. Here you can find many good restaurants, and Spanish chiefs are famous worldwide. Spanish cuisine consists of a variety of dishes, which stem from differences in geography, culture and climate. What are the pillars of the economy? Spain and been specially hit by the world economic crisis, due to its excessive dependence on the real state in the decade prior to the crisis. The biggest single problem for the Spanish economy now is the level of unemployment which at 25% is the highest in the European Community, and is even worse looking to the unemployment rate between young people which is higher than 50%. Spanish economy is now based in tourism, based in great conditions both for summer vacation visitors, as well as for cultural and/or historical interests. Spain is again back into the recession area in 2012, driven by 3 quarters of negative growth, and the Government is taking unpopular decisions, mainly based in tax increases and expenses reduction, which are creating a significant social opposition. What are your impressions about Turkey and investment environment in Turkey as the executive of an international company having investments in Turkey? FMC Corporation is a global company based in the United States. We have a vision to grow substantially over the next several years, especially in rapidly developing economies. Turkey is a great place to do business given the country s significant GDP growth, unique geographic location, business-friendly atmosphere and stable political situation. Turkey also has a well-educated workforce and a great cultural mix. The country is a perfect base for business in the Middle East and surrounding North Africa area. 30 RAPOR REPORT RAPOR REPORT Türkiye ye UDY girişleri 2012 yılı ilk yarısında 8,2 milyar $ oldu In the first half of 2012, FDI inflows to Turkey amounted to $ 8.2 billion yılının ilk yarısında, Türkiye ye UDY girişleri 8,2 milyar $ a ulaşmıştır. Bu rakam, geçtiğimiz yılın aynı dönemi ile karşılaştırıldığında %21 oranında bir artışı ifade etmektedir. Uluslararası konjonktürdeki gelişmeler ve küresel ekonomideki mevcut risklere bağlı olarak, Türkiye ye 2012 yıl sonu itibari ile milyar $ arasında bir UDY girişi beklenmektedir yılının ilk yarısında Türkiye ye 8,2 milyar $ lık UDY girişinin 6,5 milyar $ ını net doğrudan yabancı sermaye girişleri, 394 milyon $'ını diğer sermaye girişleri ve 1,3 milyar $ lık kısmını ise yurtdışında yerleşik kişilerin gayrimenkul alımları oluşturmuştur. İlk yarıda UDY girişlerine bölgesel olarak bakıldığında; Avrupa ülkelerinin girişlerin %83,1 inin kaynağı olduğu görülmekteyken, sırasıyla Asya ülkelerinin %13,4 ve Amerika nın %3,5 payları bulunmaktadır. Global trendler Dünya ile birlikte aynı zamanda YASED tarafından eşzamanlı açıklanan UNCTAD 2012 Dünya Yatırım Raporuna göre, dünya genelinde UDY girişleri, 2011 yılında bir önceki yıla oranla %16,5 artışla 1,5 trilyon $ a yükselmiştir. Böylece kriz öncesi ortalama aşılmıştır. Ancak bu değer, kriz öncesi tavan noktası olan 2007 yılındaki 1,98 trilyon dolar seviyesinin %23 altındadır. Raporun orta vadeye yönelik UDY beklentileri, risklerin beklenmeyen bir ekonomik şoka dönüşmemesi durumunda, global UDY akışlarının kriz öncesindeki tavan seviyeye 2013 yılında veya daha yüksek olasılıkla 2014 yılında ulaşması yönündedir. Global Uluslararası Doğrudan Yatırımlar Global FDI Inflows As of first half of 2012, FDI inflows to Turkey totalled $ 8.2 billion, corresponding to 21% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Turkey is projected to attract between $16-20 billion by the end of 2012, depending on the developments and the risks in the global economic environment. In the first half of 2012, $ 6.5 billion, out of $ 8.2 billion total FDI inflows to Turkey, was net foreign capital inflows, $394 million was other capital inflows and $ 1.3 billion was real estate purchases of non-residents. The main sector receiving the inflows was the industrial sector with a share of 56%. Food products, beverages and tobacco sector was the leading area under the manufacturing industry (manufacturing industry had a share of 47% in total inflows). The services sector had 44% share of the total inflows. Compared to the same period of last year, a sharp increase of more than seven-fold has been recorded in the construction area. Therefore, construction was the leading area in the services sector. In the first half of 2012, the major source countries for FDI inflows to Turkey were the UK, Austria and Luxembourg. Looking at the inflows by regions in the first half; European countries accounted for 83.1% of the inflows and Asia and Amarica had 13.4% and 3.5% shares respectively. Global trends According to the UNCTAD s World Investment Report 2012, concurrent with its worldwide release shared exclusively by YASED in Turkey, global FDI inflows rose by 16.5% to $1.5 trillion in 2011 compared to the previous year. It surpassed its precrisis average, but still 23% below the peak level of $1.98 trillion in Looking at the prospects for FDI in mediumterm of the Report; Unless the risks transform into an unpredicted economic shock, it is estimated that the global FDI flows will return to its pre-crisis peak level in 2013 or more probably in İlk yarıda sanayi sektörü %56 pay ile girişlerin en fazla olduğu sektör olmuştur. Gıda, içecek ve tütün ürünleri imalatı, toplam girişlerde %47 paya sahip imalat sanayi girişlerindeki ana kalemi oluşturmuştur. Toplam girişlerin %44 ü ise hizmetler sektörlerine girişlerdir. Özellikle inşaat alanındaki girişlerde, geçtiğimiz yılın aynı dönemine göre 7 kattan fazla bir yükseliş gerçekleşmiş ve bu sektör, hizmetler sektörü altındaki ana kalemi oluşturmuştur yılının ilk yarısında Türkiye ye en fazla UDY girişini sağlayan ülkeler İngiltere, Avusturya ve Lüksemburg olmuştur. Vodafone launches Women s Movement in Technology The mwomen Program conducted by Vodafone Group with the cooperation of World GSM Association and Cherie Blair Foundation for Women has been adapted to Turkey, under the roof of Turkey Vodafone Foundation. The project carried out in cooperation with Women Entrepreneurs Association Turkey (KAGİDER), Turkey Informatics Foundation (TBV) and the Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications, and at the same time supported by the Ministry of Family and Social Policies was developed under the name Women s Movement in Technology, to set a social business model for women to have equal access to technology and equal representation in economic and social life. As the result of the filed study, the data revealed that the rate of mobile phone ownership among men was 91.1%, whereas the rate among Turkish women is only 70.2%. 62 ekim / october

Space trip from the past to the present with "Nasa: A Human Adventure" The exhibition by NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of America, which brings together the space related important steps of the humankind, now arrives at Marmara Forum. The curiosity of space by the mankind goes back to centuries ago. In pursuit of the mystery of the outer space, the human being continues his work and his journey regarding space unabated. Now, the story of this journey has arrived to Turkey for the first time along with the Nasa: A Human Adventure exhibition. The exhibition has been settled in the Expo Center, which is established on a 2,500 square meter area with the contribution of Marmara Forum. The exhibition presents the space adventure of the humankind from its beginning till today with more than 300 special pieces that relay the technology and the equipment accompanied by the historical narrative. Transformation: A View on Chinese Contemporary Art Istanbul Modern presents contemporary examples of Chinese art in the exhibition Transformation: A View on Chinese Contemporary Art. Running from September 21 November 25, the exhibition celebrates the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey. The exhibition reinterprets traditional Chinese culture and philosophy through the use of contemporary techniques, new discoveries, and ground-breaking approaches. Traditional Chinese culture tolerantly accepts external changes while adhering to the pursuit of internal independence and values. It also embraces unique perspectives on nature and philosophy, and when these collide with contemporary reality there arises a vivid and innovative synergy and an exciting creative force. So, how do contemporary Chinese artists conceive art? How do their creative works reflect the Chinese culture? How do they expect to inspire the world? The exhibition at Istanbul Modern revolves around the theme of inner and outer transformation, a carefully balanced dynamic that focuses on the internal exploration and external application of traditional Chinese values in today s world. Organized as part of the 2012 Chinese Cultural Year in Turkey, the exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, and the Embassy of China in Turkey. The collaboration between the China International Exhibition Agency of China Arts, the Entertainment Group, and Istanbul Museum of Modern Art presents an opportunity to extend the mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries. This special celebration of 40 years of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey will be followed by an exhibition of Istanbul Modern s collection in Shanghai in ekim / october
