Muhammed i evinde ağırladığı için mihmandar-ı Resulullah sıfatına hak kazanan Halid Bin Zeyd Ebu Eyyub el-ensarî dir. 668 yılında Emeviler tarafından gerçekleştirilen başarısız İstanbul kuşatması sırasında sancaktarlık yaparken şehit düşen el-ensarî, bölgede bir yere gömülmüş, mezarı da zaman içinde kaybolmuştur. İstanbul'un Osmanlılar tarafından fethini izleyen günlerde, Fatih in de mensup olduğu Bayramı tarikatının şeyhi Akşemseddin in, El-Ensarî nin mezarını keşfetmesi üzerine, bölgeye onun adına bir türbe yaptırılması, Eyüp semtinin de kuruluşuna giden ilk adım olur. Eyüp is one of Istanbul s largest municipal districts, stretching from the city walls at Edirnekapı to the Black Sea coast. It is also one of the first Ottoman settlements in Istanbul, dating from the conquest of 1453 Eyüp is one of the most fascinating focal points of Ottoman culture, and enjoyed its heyday during the Tulip Era of the early 18th century. It is renowned fo r its historic tombs, mosques, cemeteries, and the coffee house frequented by the French novelist Pierre Loti, and as such Eyüp could be described as an openair museum. We will begin our tour of Eyüp, which lies on the southern shore of the Golden Horn, at the Eyüp Sultan Mosque after which the district is named and whose complex consists of mosque, medrese, imaret (public kitchen), hamam (baths), and the tomb of Eyyub el-ensari. Refik Origan Ünlü Fransız yazar Pierre Loti nin Aziyade romanını yazdığı söylenen tarihi Piyer Loti Kahvesi ve benzersiz Haliç manzarası. / The historic Pierre Loti Café where the famous French novelist after whom it is named is said to have written his novel Aziyade, and the spectacular view over the Golden Horn. During the unsuccessful siege o f Istanbul by the Umayyads in 668, Eyyub el-ensari served as standard bearer and was killed in battle. He was buried somewhere in the area, but in time the location of his grave was forgotten. In the wake of the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul, Akşemseddin, şeyh of the Bayramî mystic order of which Sultan Mehmed was a member, rediscovered the grave of Eyyub el Ensari. The tomb was built over it, and the district of Eyüp grew up around it. Known as Hazret-i Halid in Ottoman times and as Eyüp Sultan today, the tomb has been one of the most important shrines visited by Muslims ever since it was built. People visit the tomb to offer up prayers on such occasions as births, circumcisions, marriages and deaths. It was also the place where Ottoman rulers girded the sword of sovereignty at their accession, in a ceremony known as the taklid-i seyf.
