Bringing payment to the consumer or being able to access the potential customers outside the sales points and stores, are among the top priorities on the agendas of companies. At the same time, by the mobile POS terminals acquiring many different functions in addition to portability, a new door is opened for field companies and retailers. With the POS terminal acquiring the touchscreen feature, it is becoming possible to offer numerous services from utility payment to ticket sales, from top-up applications to banking transactions. Ingenico, the leader of innovation in payment systems, by the Touch For More series it has added to the mobile POS terminal iwl family that has led to a revolution in the field, is eliminating the keypad from the POS terminal, and starting the era of the full touchscreen, which we have already gotten used to in cell phones. By the applications that may be developed, services such as bill payment, car rental, top-up applications, and money transfer are carried to the palm of your hand. The iwl Touch series, full details of which you may find in our cover subject, will re-define the mobile POS concept. In this issue, we have carried over 2 important projects that we have implemented by the ipa280 to our interview pages. The handheld terminal application which was being used for a long time for out-of-store orders by Koçtaş, the leader in the home improvement retail sector, has combined with the payment collection feature with the ipa280. Koçtaş accessing its customers in out-of-store activities and in shopping centers where stores are not available by the ipa280 Payment PDA, in a sense, is bringing the store to the customer. You may find our interview with Koçtaş Information Technologies Group Manager Orkun Süer, where we have discussed the details of the project, in our following pages. The second guest of our interview pages is Didem Köksal, Catering Manager of Pegasus that has demonstrated a rapid development from the date of its foundation up to the present, and has rendered airway transportation accessible to wide masses by its low cost practices. Manuel satış sürecinde uçuş öncesinde yüklenen tüm ürünler satış formuna kaydediliyor ve uçuş sonunda yapılan sayım neticesinde kalan stok forma işleniyordu ve aradaki fark ürünler tek tek fiyatlandırılarak, satış olarak kayda alınıyordu. Satış esnasında misafirlerimiz tarafından yapılan ödemeler manuel olarak hesaplanıyor ve tahsilat bu hesaplama dikkate alınarak, dip koçanlı fişler karşılığında gerçekleştiriliyordu. Pegasus Catering Manager Didem Köksal has explained the Pegasus Airlines in-flight services and the efficiency observed in the processes by the transition to the ipa280, specially to Ingenico POS-t. What kind of an operation model do you have at Pegasus Airlines for in-flight services? As Pegasus Airlines, adopting the idea that travelling by plane is not a luxury, but is everyone s right, we have implemented the first low cost model in Turkey. We offer our guests a reliable, on time and conveniently priced flights in return for their tickets. They have the liberty to purchase all services they wish in addition to that, in return for a reasonable price. This liberty allows them the opportunity of not paying for the extra luggage and food of the others, to travel in the seat they wish, and travel at reasonable prices by making smart choices. Over our www. flypgs.com website, our guests are able to choose they wish in return for a reasonable prices, and purchase their extra luggage. Besides that, our in-flight treats are at cost, in order to be able to serve our customers in the way they wish, and to let them free in their selections. From the Pegasus Café menus provided in the seat pockets, they may chose the food they want at that moment, or by placing an order from our internet site or call center up to 36 hours prior to their flight, they may compose a menu as they wish for themselves or their loved ones. Besides that, within the scope of the collaborations we have achieved, we also offer our guests additional services such as car rentals, hotel reservations, travel insurance to facilitate their trips. How were the sales, payment, invoicing processes handled prior to the use of the ipa280? Prior to the ipa280, our sales were being handled manually by our cabin team. In the manual sales process, all products loaded prior to the flight were recorded on the sales form, and as a result of the inventory made at the end of the flight, these were recorded on the sales form and the difference was taken into the records by pricing the products individually. The payments made by our guests during sales were calculated manually and 5

Kısaca ipa280 kullanımından önce uygulanmakta olan manuel sistem yorucu ve daha çok zaman harcanan bir yöntemdi. Ayrıca arka planda tüm bu işlemlerin manuel olarak sisteme girilmesi ve muhasebeleştirme işlemleri göz önüne alındığında kayıtların oluşturulmasında da aynı zorluklar yaşanmaktaydı. Uçuş süreleri dikkate alındığında tüm misafirlerimize gereken hizmeti vermek için zamanı etkin kullanmak büyük önem taşıyor. ipa280 i tercih etmenizde neler etkili oldu? ipa280, işlemleri manuel olmaktan çıkararak otomasyonu kullanılır hale getiriyor. Satışa yönelik data girişlerini manuel olarak yapmak durumunda kalmayan kabin ekibimiz, böylece uçuş sonunda mutabakat yapmak durumunda kalmıyor. Stok ve diğer operasyonel takipler de cihaz üzerinden yapılabiliyor. Özellikle cihazın yazıcısından alınan ve Maliye Bakanlığı onaylı satış fişi olarak kullanılan çıktı büyük kolaylık sağlıyor. Aynı zamanda geliştirmekte olduğumuz yeni yazılımın kullanıma başlamasıyla cihazın POS tarafı da aktif hale getirilerek, sıcak satışta büyük zaman tasarrufu sağlayacak. ipa280 in yazıcısından alınan ve Maliye Bakanlığı onaylı satış fişi olarak kullanılan çıktı büyük kolaylık sağlıyor. ipa280 in kullanılmaya başlanmasının ardından iş süreçlerinizde ne tür değişimler yaşandı? Sistemin Pegasus a sağladığı avantajlardan bahsedebilir misiniz? Satış esnasında kazandırdığı zaman sayesinde ekiplerimiz uçuşlarında seyahat eden tüm misafirlerimize daha fazla zaman ayırabiliyor. Satışlara ve elde edilen kişi, ürün ve uçulan destinasyon bazlı istatistiksel satış bilgilerine daha kolay ulaşılabilmesi sonucunda yüklemeler daha verimli bir şekilde planlanabiliyor ve bu sayede hizmet standardımızı yükseltiyor. Bununla birlikte fazla ağırlık taşımayarak yakıt konusunda tasarruf sağlamış oluyoruz. Uygulama yazılımları da Pegasus ekibi tarafından mı geliştirildi? PDA tarafında back ofiste oluşturulan siparişlerin günlük olarak cihazlara yüklenmesi ile ilgili uçuşta satışa sunulan stok görüntülenebiliyor, satış esnasında kabul edilen tüm döviz bilgileri ile toplam tutar hesaplanıyor, Maliye Bakanlığı onaylı satış fişleri veriliyor ve satış sonrasında kalan stok bilgisine ulaşılabiliyor. Well, what kind of difficulties and disadvantages were experienced in this system? When the flight durations are considered, the effective use of time bears great significance in providing the required service to all our guests. The major disadvantage of the manual system for us was that the time provided for service and sales was extremely limited. Time and labor were spent in the counting and recording of all products one by one before and after the flight. The calculation errors experienced in the manual system were leading to dissatisfaction for the cabin teams or the guests. For collections made in foreign currency, daily exchange rates were issued by us and the teams followed those lists. In short, the manual system applied prior to the use of the ipa280 was an exhausting and time consuming method. Moreover, considering the manual input and recognition of these transactions in the system manually in the background, the same difficulties were experienced in the formation of the records also. When the flight durations are considered, using time effectively is of extreme significance in order to provide the required services to all our customers. What were effective in your preferring the ipa280? The ipa280 takes the transactions out of being manual, and allows the use of automation. Our cabin team now does not have to make the data inputs related to sales manually, thus does not have to make a balancing at the end of the flight. Stocks and other operational tracking may also be made over the appliance. Especially the printout received from the appliance s printer and used as a sales slip approved by the Ministry of Finance 6

English provides a major convenience. In the meantime, once the new software we are developing is started to be used, the POS side of the appliance will be made more active, and will allow major time savings in hot sales. The sales slip received from the ipa280 s printer, approved by the Ministry of Finance provides high convenience. What kinds of changes have been experienced in your work processes after beginning to use the ipa280? Could you tell us about the advantages that the system has provided to Pegasus? By the time it saves during sales, our teams are able to spare more time for all of our guests who are travelling. As a result of accessing sales and statistical sales data based on the number of individuals achieved, product and flight destination more easily, loadings may be planned more efficiently and thus our service standard is increased. In addition to that, we are also able to save on fuel by not carrying extra weight. As a consequence of the conveniences, it allows during flight stocks tracking and sales, and our operation has become faster and more efficient. Uçaklarda GPRS iletişimine izin verilmiyor. Peki, uçak içi satışlarda cihaz offline olarak mı çalışıyor? Bir uçuşta gerçekleşen işlemler merkez ofise ne zaman ulaşıyor? Uçuş güvenliğini göz önünde bulundurarak özellikle cihazlardaki GPRS kullanımını aktif hale getirmedik, operasyonel etkenlere bağlı olarak gün sonunda ya da uçuş sonunda ikram görevlileri tarafından teslim alınan cihazlar üzerinde yer alan bilgiler tüm istasyonlarımızda bulunan cradle ünitelerinden sisteme aktarılıyor. Cihazların şarj edilme süreci de aynı istasyonlarda bulunan ünitelerde gerçekleşiyor. Peki, POS tarafında hangi banka uygulamaları çalışıyor? Bu konudaki geliştirme süreci Yapı ve Kredi Bankası, Ingenico ve Pegasus Hava Yolları nın ortak yürütmekte olduğu proje kapsamında devam ediyor. Taksit/ödül/puan gibi kampanya kurguları kullanılıyor mu? Şu an için bu tarz kampanya kurguları ile ilgili bir geliştirme yapılmıyor ancak POS uygulamasının devreye girmesi sonrasında bu tarz geliştirmelerin yapılması planlanıyor. Peki, loyalty uygulamaları Mevcutta misafirlerimizin uçak bileti ve ek hizmet alımlarından UçuşPuan kazandıkları Pegasus Plus loyalty programımız var. Henüz bu program ile bir entegrasyon mevcut değil ancak önümüzdeki dönem projelerimiz içinde bu sistem üzerinden misafir sadakatine yönelik çalışmaları hayata geçirmek yer alıyor. Şu anda kaç adet ipa280 uçuşlarda kullanılıyor? Bu projede geleceğe yönelik hedefleriniz neler? Şu anda 200 adet cihaz aktif olarak kullanımda Uçuş ağımızın genişlemesine ve cihaz kullanımında yer alan özelliklerin artmasına paralel olarak cihaz sayısında artış olmasını planlıyoruz. What type of applications run on the PDA side of the appliance? Has the application software been developed by the Pegasus team also? On the PDA side, the stocks offered for sale on the related flight can be displayed by loading the orders issued in the back office daily, and the total amount is calculated with all the foreign exchange data accepted during the sales, while sales slips approved by the Ministry of Finance are issued, and the data on the stocks remaining following sales may be accessed. All application software used on the appliance and on the back office side has been developed by the Pegasus Airlines Information Technologies Team. GPRS communication is not allowed on planes. Well, does the device operate offline during in-flight sales? When do the transactions materializing during a flight reach the headquarters? Considering the flight security, we have not activated the GPRS use on the, the data on the appliances received by the treat personnel are transferred to the system through the cradle units available at all our stations, either at the end of the day or at the end of the flight, depending on the operational factors. The charging process of the appliances is also performed at units available in the same stations. Well, which bank applications run on the POS? The development process on this continues within the scope of the project being implemented collectively by the Yapı Kredi Bank, Ingenico and Pegasus Airlines. Are campaign setups such as installments/awards/points used? From product acceptance to ordering, from product barcode printing to counting, we have developed many operations on the handheld terminals. In addition to that, we have made many developments on the mobile handheld terminals, in order to be able to offer an easier, faster and suggestive shopping experience to our customers. For that, we have made integrations between the mobile handheld terminals and our cash register systems. During all that time, we always had in our minds the idea of a handheld terminal that could also be used for payment. Especially when an activity is being made outside the store environment, it is very important for us to access data such as instantaneous product, stocks level information. While we were investigating how such a solution could be developed during the last period, we met with the Ingenico ipa280 solution.
