Merrill] is grown on about ha with a seed production of thousand tons recent years. It is grown as second crop in Southern region and as main crop in Central and Northern regions of the country. Generally, soybean has been late-planted in main crop conditions. For this reason, the most important problem of the national soybean production is the lack of early and high yielding soybean varieties for the both main crop and second crop conditions. The aim of this study was to improve soybean varieties which have high yield and quality and an: early and suitable for second crop conditions in soybean which has a high production potential as second crop especially in Southern regions of Mediterranean environments. Twenty-seven advanced generation early soybean lines (Fg) improved by different research instit.utes of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock were t.est.ed as second crop in the field experiments with replication performed at two locations in Turkey with YleditelTanean-type climate in 2013 and the first year of study, 27 advanced generation early soybean lines and standard varieties (Ansoy, At.aem-7, Bravo, Nova, SA-88 and Umut-2002) as check were tested in the field experiments with two replications at. two locations in Turkey. In second year, these selected advanced lines and the standard varieties (Ansoy, Ataern-7, Bravo, ~ova) were tested in Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications under the second crop condit.ions at t.wo locations. Soybean lines and standard varieties were planted by hand in mid-june. Resulrs of the first year experiments indicated that statistically significant differences existed between advanced generation soybean lines in terms of all observed characters in Antalya and Izmir. According to the results of the first year experiments at two locations, lines, BATEM 207, HATEM 22:', BATEM :'06, BATEM 317, BDSA 05, BDUS 04, KAMA, KA.NA, KASM 02, KASM 03 of twenty-seven tested advanced generation soybean lines were chosen as promising variety candidates in terms of earliness and high yield. On the other hand, average oil and protein contents of these selected lines in Ant.alya ranged between and % and between and %, respectively. Results of the second year field experiments revealed that there were st.atistically significant differences between variety candidates in respect to all observed traits. In Antalya conducted field experiments, soybean lines named as HATEM 223, KASM 03, BATEM :\17 and HATEM 207 gave higher yields compared to average of standard varieties. Average days to maturity of these lines in Antalya were days (Table 1). As a results, variety candidates, BDUS 04, BATEM :JOG, BDSA 05, and RAMD 03 were found suitable for variety registration due to their supel-ior performances in terms of earliness and high yield. In previous studies, seed yields ranged between 1275 and 4653 kg ha- the second crop conditions with respect to different soybean genotypes (Efe and Yllmaz 1998, Arslan and Ano lu 2003, Galt kan and Ano lu 2004).
