5 Call for Paper The Fourth International Women/Gender Studies Conference, which will be held in at Eastern Mediterranean University Conference and Culture Center, between October 3-5, 2012 aims at bringing together scholars, researchers, performers and activists from various disciplines to present their works and exchange ideas in a wide range of issues such as economic, socio-cultural, law, politics, communication, design and etc. under the general theme "Gender Equality and the Law" to explore how gender equality and women's experiences have been structured, impacted, controlled, or ignored by law and the possibilities and limits of realizing women's rights through the law. After she graduated Zapeion Greek Gymnasium for Girls, Istanbul in1954 she studied Philosophy at Istanbul University. After she got her Ph. International Conference on Women s/gender Studies Çiğdem KAĞITÇIBAŞI Professor Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı is a professor of psychology at Koç University, İstanbul, and a founding member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences. She served as the Vice-President of the International Union of Psychological Science, the first woman President and Fellow of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP), and the Vice President of the International Social Science Council. She holds APA s (1993) and IAAP s (1998) Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology Award, Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Award (1997), and W. T. Preyer Award for Excellence in Research on Human Development (2006) by European Society for Developmental Psychology. Prof. Kağıtçıbaşı was recently honored by the TÜBİTAK Science Award in the Social Sciences category (2011). Anat BILETZKI Professor Anat Biletzki is professor of philosophy at Tel Aviv University and Albert Schweitzer Professor of Philosophy at Quinnipiac University (Connecticut, USA). She teaches and researches human rights, political thought, analytic philosophy, and digital culture. Biletzki has been active in the peace movement and in human rights in Israel-Palestine. She was chairperson of B Tselem - the Israeli Information center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories ( ), in 2005 was chosen as one of 50 most influential women in Israel by Globes, the Israeli business monthly, and was nominated among the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005.
9 Şebnem KORUR FİNCANCI Professor Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı is a member of the Docents of the University of Istanbul (Mother Tongue Faculty). She has established an international reputation known for her expertise in judicial medicine, torture and rehabilitation. She is one of the guiders of the `Protocol of Istanbul that is being used by the United Nations worldwide as a guideline for defining torture. She also is one of the founders of the Association for the Institution of Judicial Medicine and is the head of specialists of the Institution for Judicial Medicine. Since 1990, she also has worked on cases involving torture. As a result, she has become a target of oppression. In 1996, she worked on behalf of the International Court of War Crimes of the United Nations in Bosnia and there participated in autopsies of mass graves. In addition, she has been working for Doctors for Human Rights in South Africa, and in 2002 for the World Health Organization (Research on Violence against Women). Finally, Fincancı has organized education on the Protocol of Istanbul in different countries and written numerous documents on this issue. Since 2009, she has been the Head of the Foundation of Human Rights of Turkey (TIHV). Emine ÇOLAK Emine Çolak has a law degreee from the University of London (SOAS) and in 1980 qualified as a barrister. Since 1982 she has been practicing as a lawyer of the Turkish Cypriot Nicosia Bar. She is a founder and current Head of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Foundation. She is Chairperson of the Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Foundation. She is the head of own legal firm operating in Lefkoşa North Cyprus dealing with commercial, family, property, succession cases with special emphasis on human rights and representing NGOs. As Chairperson of TCHRF, conducting and supporting research, public awareness raising and lobbying for reforms to improve the standard of human rights in North Cyprus. She studied Primary and Secondary education in London UK. She graduated from University of London (SOAS) ( LLB Hons), and Gray s Inn, Bar finals qualifying as Barrister, London. She participated in a number of conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation training programmes and obtained qualifications as a trainer in mediaton skills. A founder and member of the Turkish Cypriot Mediation Association, Patients Rights Association, Refugees Rights Association and the Initiative against Homophobia. Past and present member of several bi-communal think-tanks and discussion groups working for intercommunal dialogue and a better understanding of the issues needing to be resolved for a settlement to the Cyprus problem. She was elected for 2 terms as a member of the Nicosia Turkish Municipal Council and undertook short-term training in local governance She served as Coordinator of the Technical Committees for the Negotiation of the Federal Laws in the Annan Plan for a Comprehensive Solution of the Cyprus Problem. She appointed by the President and as a member of the High Judicial Board responsible for appointment of Judges and efficient functioning of the courts in North Cyprus between 2006 and 2011.
