Summer Giving At this time of year, you are probably watering and nurturing the plants that you planted this spring. These young plants are a reminder of the parable of the mustard seed..tiny when planted in the earth, then springing up to stretch out its great branches. This growth happens because of God, who is the master gardener. So it is with our task of faith.we plant good seeds, nurture them and know that it is God who gives growth. Sometimes the effects are seen and appreciated and other times go unnoticed. Remember we walk by faith and not by sight. Trust in our Lord for all things! If you have an interest in videography and would be willing to donate your time and talents, please call the parish office to discuss in greater detail. Plant Waterer: For many years, Dick Biederwolf, volunteered to water our four outside planters every Wednesday. Since he has moved, we are in need of a volunteer. Please call the Parish Office if you are able to help. Stewardship Mailing: A single or couple is needed to take the Stewardship mailing to the 4 Mile Road Post Office every other month. For more information, or if you would like to volunteer, please call the Parish Office. Parish Ministries & Commissions As many of our parish ministries and committees take a break for the summer months, we ask all parishioners to pick up a ministry catalog in the gathering space and spend some time reviewing it and discerning where your gifts can be put to good use at St. Paul and beyond. The catalog includes descriptions of the various ministries, the time commitment involved and contact information for the leaders. Each commission is dedicated to a particular area of mission or for a specific ministry for which they have responsibility. Every encounter becomes an opportunity to serve Christ, to heal and help others and to strengthen our faith community. Lord, may everything we do begin with your inspiration and continue with your help. So that all our prayers and works may begin with you and by you be happily ended. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen St. Louis Parish Festival Each summer, St. Louis Parish in Caledonia holds its annual festival on the third full weekend of August on Saturday evening and Sunday all day. This year the festival dates are Saturday, August 18 th & Sunday, August 19 th. Highlights are an outdoor Mass, several bands, games, raffles, crafts and a car show. Mark your calendar and stop out in August to support St. Louis Parish. They are also looking for volunteers, so if you would like to help just go to their website and click on the link for the volunteer form. Combined Collection: Church in the United States You more than likely received your Combined Collections material in the mail. If you choose to support this campaign, please make the checks payable to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and put it in the envelope provided. You can mail the envelope directly to the Archdiocese of drop in the collection basket at Mass and we will forward it to them. Mass Attendance An Archdiocesan report recently released shows a steady decrease in average Sunday Mass attendance. From 2016 to 2017, average Mass attendance decreased by 3.9%, which means there were 3,685 fewer attendees at Mass last year. Between 2002 and 2017, there were 84,710 fewer attendees at Sunday Mass. That is a 39.4% decline over the past 16 years. If this current rate of decline continues, there will be 35,000 fewer Mass attendees over the next 10 year. Archbishop Listecki is hoping that the 2015 Synod will increase efforts to get more people to Sunday Mass. The Synod placed an emphasis on Evangelization and the Sunday Mass. Watch the bulletin for opportunities to be part of the Evangelization efforts of our parish. See you at Mass! ST. PAUL THE APOSTLE CONGREGATION 3

Please prayerfully consider helping the Racine County Fair Evangelization Group this coming July 25th-29th. This is a collaborative parish effort with numerous parishioners from different parishes in Racine county. We hand out free materials and share the joy of our Catholic faith with those attending the County Fair by using a non-confrontational approach to evangelization. For more information or to join us in one of our planning meetings, please call Michael Chuchara at 262-497-2359, or Matt Nelson at 262-880-4229 Catholic Stewardship Appeal As of June 4, 2018, St. Paul the Apostle has collected $42,107 towards our goal of $56,000. There are 270 donors out of 1,421. Overall, total pledges raised on a goal of $7.7 million is $5,762,461, with 24,522 total donors. There is still time to contribute. Envelopes are available in Fr. Dietzler Gathering Space. Parking Lot Warning Within the next couple of weeks, we will have crews here replacing the concrete apron at the Spring Street entrance, as well as replacement of several sidewalk squares around the building that have deteriorated. When the Spring Street entrance is replaced with new concrete, it will be closed to incoming and outgoing traffic for about one week. All traffic will need to enter the church facility by way of the Emmertsen Road entrance. Please drive with caution during this time, as everyone will be using the same way in and out. The sidewalk sections are scattered around the building and the new concrete will be blocked off in some way. Please be careful when entering and exiting the building and stay off the newly poured concrete. Thanks for your cooperation! Everyone s safety is our Number 1 concern! If you have questions, please contact Jerry Hipper. Stewardship Thought Today we celebrate the birth of St. John the Baptist. This prophet, who practiced austerity in the desert, proclaimed the kingdom of God, a coming judgment, and baptism as a sign of repentance. With deep humility, John directed attention not to himself but to Jesus. John s attitude was, He must increase, I must decrease. (John 3:30). John s birth, days after the summer solstice when daylight hours begin to decrease, contrasts with Jesus birth days after the winter solstice, heralding daylight s increase. Like John the Baptist, stewards turn attention away from themselves and towards Jesus. The stewardship question for us is whether or not we ourselves are prepared to decrease and allow Jesus to increase in our hearts, minds, words and actions.
