The ESK Press Club is made up of students in Years 7, 8 & 9. and we hope you enjoy their publication. The first term of ESK (Bellapais) is coming to an end and now it is time to look back on the term with pride. Together we have all achieved so much. The children have shown that they are able to overcome the challenges of starting a new school. They are trying hard to learn English as quickly as possible and many have made outstanding progress. They are now well into the routines of the working day and we are all working hard to put in that extra effort that will make a good school truly exceptional. Looking back on those first days we wondered if the car park would ever be calm, if the nursery children would stop crying and if the noise in the dining room would subside. And of course within weeks it has all happened. The recent parents evenings gave you the information you needed and gave us some very useful feedback. We take careful notice of the things you tell us, your comments are discussed and as a result we review our policies to ensure that we are giving our children the best quality provision that we possibly can. We are all looking forward to the next term at ESK when new and exciting things will be happening. We will be launching our ECO School program next term. ESK is now registered as an ECO School and the first thing we are doing on our road to achieving ECO School status is to stop sending out paper copies of letters. Instead you will receive emails or text messages or the information will be posted on the school s website, so keep your eyes open for your messages. If you do not have access to the internet then please call in to the office and we can discuss alternatives. Arkadaşlarımızın Başarılarının Devamını Diliyoruz. Students Awarded for Effort! These students were awarded with certificates for the effort they have displayed so far this term. The certificates were presented to them by Mr. Charman and Mrs. Nevzat. We look forward to having more students rewarded for their efforts over the course of the year. Prof. Dr. Ata Atun 20.11.2009 tarihinde yayınladığı yazısında okulumuza geniş bir yer ayırdı. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı nın kararıyla 19 Kasım 1 Aralık tarihleri arasında tüm okulların eğitime ara vermesi ile ESK nin eğitime olan bakış açısını ve farklılığını birkez daha köşesindeki yazısında gözler önüne serdi. The different perspective of ESK towards education was discussed in his column. He talked about ESK s response to the break in education as a result of the Ministry of Education s swine flu closure from November 19th to December 1st. He congratulated our teachers and staff for using that opportunity to start an elearning section on our website for our students to use. ESK is Ready for 2010! ESK ailesi Colony Hotel deki muhteşem bir Yeni Yıl partisinde eğlendi. The ESK family had a wonderful Christmas Party at the Colony Hotel.

Milli Arşiv Gezisi Hazırlayan: Şevval ö. Y9 Tarih yazmak, yapmak kadar mühimdir. Yazan yapana sadik kalmazsa; değişmeyen gerçek insanlığı şaşırtacak bir şekil alır, yazısıydı. Sözün sahibi ulu önder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk tü. Arşiv de belgeler ayıklanır bilgisayar ortamına aktarılır. Ceza hukuku ve aile dosyalari da bu arşivin mevcuttur. 1998 de yapılan özel odada Sultan Mahmut ve Selimiye Camii ne ait Osmanlıca yazilar bulunmaktadır ve bu yazilar matbaada basılmışlardır. İkinci binada ise ağırlıklı olarak Rumca baskılar bulunmaktadır. Üçüncü binada ise tapu defterleri vardir. Arkada olan bir diğer binada ise imhalık malzemeler vardir.(bu malzemeler bilgisayar ortamına kaydedildikten sonra yer kapladıkları için veya zaman aşımına uğradıkları için yok edilirler.) Milli Arşiv ile ilgili öğrendiğimiz son gelişme ise; 01 Ocak 2010 dan sonra gazetelerin artık toplanmayacak olmasıydı. Yeni bir gezide buluşmak üzere,şimdilik hoşçakalın... Esk nin 9. Sınıf öğrencileri Miss Balkay ile yapılan gezide Girne de bulunan, Milli Arşiv i ziyaret etti. Milli Arşiv ler, toplumların geçmişten günümüze kadar neler yaşayarak geldiğinin belgelendiği önemli kuruluşlardır. Arşiv gezilerinde,sadece görmekle kalmayıp o anı yaşarsınız, çünkü size bu hissi verir. Bizler de o anlara yolculuk yaptık, sizlerle de gördüklerimizi paylaşmak istedik.milli Arşiv; 1971 yılında ilk olarak Lefkoşa da kuruldu. 1974 de Mutlu Barış Harekatı ndan sonra 1975 de Girne de de açıldı. Yer yetmediği için zaman zaman ilaveler yapıldı. Milli Arşiv in 1 km raf uzunlugu vardir. Burada gazete, kitap, harita ve bir çok belgeler bulunmaktadır. Mahkeme dosyalarının 1979 yılından 1990 yılına kadar olan kayıtları bulunmaktadır.bir adet araştırma odası da vardır. Benim en ilgimi çeken ise; The Year 9 students of ESK visited the National Archive in Kyrenia with Miss Barkay. National Archives are important organizations documenting the ways societies have changed through time. You do not only see that moment but you also live it during Archive visits, because that is how they seem to make you feel. We, also, experienced this and wanted to share what we saw with you. The National Archive was first established in 1971 in Nicosia. It was also opened in Kyrenia in 1975 after the Peace Operation in 1974. Extensions were made due to a lack of space. The National Archive has a 1 km shelf length. There are newspapers, books, maps and many other types of documents. The court files from 1979 to 1990 can also be found. There is also a research room. What caught my attention the most was the writing at the entrance: Writing history is as important as making it. If the writer is disloyal to the maker; the ultimate truth turns into something that will shock human kind. That saying belongs to the great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Documents are sorted and then transferred into the digital computer medium in the Archive. Criminal law and family files are also in that archive. It is possible to find scripts belonging to Sultan Mahmut and others from the Selimiye Mosque written in Ottoman Turkish. These are in the special room built in 1998 and were all produced using a printing press. As for the second building, it mostly consists of Greek editions. Land Register books can be found in the third building. In the building at the back, you can find the disposable materials (these materials are disposed of after being transferred to a digital medium, either to save space or because they are out of date.) The latest information we gathered about the National Archive was that newspapers will no longer be collected from January 1 st 2010 onwards. That s it for now, see you at the next visit...

Volume 2, Issue 2 Page 4 ESK Tören Alanındaki Yerini Aldı 2009 Eylül ayında açılan okulumuz kısa sürede aktif görevlerle diğer okulların yanındaki yerini aldı. 10 Kasım Atatürk ü anma haftası nda düzenlenen resmi törende öğrencimiz şiir okudu ve ayakta alkışlandı. 15 Kasım 2009 günü yapılan Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti nin bağımsızlığını ilanının 26. Yıldönümünde Kortej yürüğüşündeki yerini aldı. ESK takes part in recent ceremonies ESK started its first school year with senior students in September 2009 and has already enjoyed taking part in public ceremonies. On November 10th, an ESK student read a poem during the formal ceremony organised in commemoration of Ataturk and was received with enthusiastic applause. On November 15th, for the 26th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, our school marched down central Kyrenia to celebrate this important day as well. Ayın Filmi 2012 Film Of The Month 2012 Büyük bütçeli felaket filmlerinin değişmez yönetmeni Roland Emmerich yine benzer bir yapımla karşımızda. Bazı teorisyenlere göre 12 Aralık 2012 tarihinde dünyanın sonunun geleceğini öngören Maya medeniyetinin bu öngörüsünün doğru çıktığı bir geleceğin anlatıldığı 2012 adlı filmde insanların hayatta kalma mücadelelerine tanık oluyoruz. Tarihte daha önce hiçbir kültürde, farklı dinde ve bilim insanları ile devletler arasında bir yıl bu kadar belirgin bir şekilde önem taşımamıştı ve bu tarih, Maya takvimine göre dünyanın sonu demekti. 2012 tarihinin bu gizemli yönünden yola çıkarak beyaz perdeye uyarlanan 2012 filmi çok ses getirdi. Film daha çok aksiyon, macera ve bilim kurgu içermektedir. İzleyenlerin en çok hoşlarına giden bir diğer konu ise görsel efektlerin ne kadar iyi olmasıydı.ama bazı izleyiciler 2012 filminin Mayalılar ın fazla içerilmesi gerektiğini düşünüyor. Nede olsa bu tarihi onlar buldu. Benim adıma harika bir film. Nedeni ise günümüzde 2012 de olacaklar çok konuşuluyor bu film de tarihe göre gerçekçi ve gizemli bilgileri yansıtıyor. Kısacası, eğer aksiyon ve macera seviyorsanız 2012 filmini kaçırmamalısınız. The director of many top budget films, Roland Emmerich, also directs 2012. In this film we experience the life struggles of people living in the year 2012. According to the Ancient Mayan calendar, the world is due to end in the year 2012. No other year has been as emphasised or given so much importance to by scientists, cultures or religions. The film 2012 contains lots of fiction, action and excitement. The other thing which made the film interesting for the viewer was its impressive special effects. Though some viewers believed that the Mayan`s were involved too much I thought it was an amazing film. At present, 2012 is being talked about a lot and this film is both realistic and fascinating. In brief, if you enjoy action and adventure films, I would advise you not to miss 2012. ESK NEWS Student Press Club Edition Teacher Feature: 10 Questions for Mr Paul Allen Mr Paul Allen Where were you born? I was born in Nicosia, my family had a house in Varosha. What is your earliest memory? My primary school which was in Germany. What is the favourite place you have ever visited? My favorite place is Ancient Egypt. Who was your favourite teacher in school? Why? My favourite teacher was Mr. Jones, he was my teacher in year 10 to 11 because he was the one who got me going. If it hadn t had been for him I would just as well be a bin man. What type of music do you like listening to? I like listening to rock music from the 1980 s. What is your favourite meal? I like hot and spicy curries. If you had not become a teacher, what else do you think you might have liked to do? If I was not a teacher, I would have probably become a photographer. What is your favourite book or film? I enjoyed the book Shoguu, which is a book about medieval Japan. If you could change anything in the world, what would you change? I would like the Greek and the Turkish side to come together and live in peace without a border. In each newsletter we will have a feature on a different member of staff by asking them 10 questions. KARİKATÜR CARTOON A humorous look at landlord tenant relations by Toya Mehmet, a student from Year 8. 8. Sınıf Öğrencilerimizden Toya Mehmet in Kiracı ve Evsahibi diyaloğuna espirili bir bakış :) IGCSE Semineri Okulumuzun 9. Sınıf öğrenci ve velilerine yönelik geçtiğimiz hafta İGCSE Semineri düzenlendi. Geleceklerini oluşturmak için karar aşamasında olan öğrencilerimize, İngilizce Türkçe, Matematik, Fen Bilimleri, Müzik ve Resim gibi birçok derste IGCSE Sınav teknikleri öğretildi. IGCSE Seminar A seminar on IGCSEs recently took place for our Year 9 students and their parents. These students are now at the stage of making important decisions for their future. The seminar presented IGCSE courses from a wide range of subjects including English, Turkish, Mathematics, the Sciences, Music, Art and more. ICT & CLİL Kursları ICT & CLIL Courses Domuz gribi nedeniyle okulların kapatıldığı dönemde ESK öğretmenleri olarak öğrencilere daha iyi eğitim verebilmek için içe dönük eğitimlerden geçtik. İCT uzmanı Mr Neufeld İnteraktif eğitim ve CLİL ile ilgili bilgilerini öğretmenlerimizle paylaştı. ESK teachers had internal training days during the swine flue closure in order to keep improving the quality of education for our students. ICT expert, Mr. Neufeld, shared his knowledge of Interactive Education and CLIL with our teachers.
