A. THE PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP To provide the development of the learning outcomes of the internship courses, to lay the groundwork for the courses students are going to take in the following semesters, to introduce the students to the environment of the industry and the institutions related to their educations, with the accumulation of knowledge in the courses given in the related undergraduate program. The philosophical core of the internship is the detailed observation of the system as a whole, along with the components of the system and the interrelation between them, without adhering to a single unit. The objective here should be the extensive analysis of the tasks done in the institution of one's internship. Thus when it is going to be decided where they will be doing their internship, meeting the education output of the internship courses in their departments should be taken note of. Furthermore, in doing the aforementioned internship, students will be experiencing the institution/corporation-administration-employee relationships and interactions. B. THE DEFINITION, DATE, AND DURATION OF THE INTERNSHIP B.1. The internship is a vital part of the preparation process for the business life in public and private sectors for the students of İstanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. B.2. In order for the undergraduate students to be eligible for bachelor's degree, they are required to do two internships, each consist of 20 consequtive working days in related commercial and industrial corporations, research institutions and corporations in the service industry with the purpose of accurate observation and examination of the tasks they perform. Students may do their first internship in the related faculties of the university by the decree of Departmental Internship Committee. In this case; the Department informs the Dean of the Faculty about the responsible academician of the control of the internship and the workplace safety. B.3. The first internship can be applied at the earliest in the summer period following the 2nd year. The internships should be done, in accordance with the academic calendar, at least one week before the lecturess start and in two separate periods consisting of at least 20 continuous working days. Departmental Internship Committees decide whether the internships can be done or not during the winter break, on the condition that the minimum duration of working days to complete the internship can be found in the related break period.

C. INTERNSHIP COMMITTEE C.1. Each department with an undergraduate program should have a Departmental Internship Committee. The Departmental Internship Committee consists of a chairman and 2 members. Head of Departmental Internship Committee is run by the head of department or an academic member. If an academic member other than the head of department is tasked as Head of Departmental Internship Committee it must be reported to the Dean s Office. C.2. The preliminary association of the internship courses between themselves and the other courses on the curriculum is done in accordance with the content of the curriculum by the Department Committee and go into effect with the approval of the departmental board. C.3. In each academic year at November/December, Departmental Internship Committee gives a briefing to students about internship. D. PROCEDURE OF INTERNSHIP D.1. Students, who would like to do an internship, should find the institution/corporation for themself and they should apply to their Departmental Internship Committee with Compulsory Internship Application Form given in Appendix-1. After the necessary approval has taken from the Departmental Internship Committee, the approval of Dean s Office should be also taken. D.2. Students have to take the approved Compulsory Internship Application Form and the Internship Acceptance Form (given in Appendix-2) to the institution/corporation where the internship is done and they must have the Internship Acceptance Form approved by that institution/corporation. This form should also be approved by Departmental Internship Committee and should be submitted to the Faculty Secretariat. D.3. Students must fill in the Beyan and Taahhütname Form (given in Appendix-3) and submit this form along with copy of their National Identity Card to Faculty Secretariat. D.4. Students may also do their compulsory internships abroad on condition that their regular academic program will not be affected. All the responsibilities belong to students when the internship is done abroad. Acceptance forms of overseas internships are evaluated by Departmental Internship Committee and committee decides on whether the internship can be done overseas or not. Application formsa re given in Appendix-1b. D.5. Students, apart from compulsory internships, may do voluntary internship in institution/corporation that is found by themselves, on condition that the regular academic

program will not be affected. In this case, students must apply to their Departmental Internship Committee with Voluntary Internship Application Form that is given in Appendix-4. After the necessary approval of Departmental Internship Committee, students must obtain the approval of Faculty Dean. D.6. Students should take the approved Voluntary Internship Application Form and Internship Form (given in Appendix-5) to institution/corporation where the internship is done; and they must have Internship Form approved by the institution/corporation. The approved Internship Form, Beyan and Taahhütname Form that should be filled out by student and copy of student s National Identity Card should be committed to Faculty Secretariat. D.7. Intern Evaluation Form that is provided in Appendix-6 should be filled out and approved by authorized people at the institution/corporation immediately after the compulsory internship has finished; and it should be submitted to related academic unit. This form either can be sent by e-mail by the institution/corporation to the academic unit or can be brought by student in a closed envelope that is sealed by the institute/corporation. D.8. Students who have done their internship, should enroll on one of (200/300) coded courses of their own department in the semester following the internship. Moreover, Summer Training Report which is prepared by the students who have done their internship should be submitted to Faculty Secretariat until the course registrations. D.9. Students, who haven t done their internships or haven t submitted their Summer Training Report, are not allowed to enroll on Summer Practice Course. D.10. Internship Place Evaluation Form (given in Appendix-7) which should be filled out by students after they complete the internship, should be submitted along with Summer Training Report. E. INTERNSHIP REPORT GUIDELINES E.1. Internship report is an in English written report document. The report must consist up to 15 pages-(supplements not included) which contains the answers of the questions that are listed in the guideline and the special studies that are required from students to make and/or the technical drawings.

E.2. Internship report must be written in software (e.g. MS Word) on a white paper in A4 size. It must be prepared with standard margins, Times New Roman font at 12 point and 1½ line spacing. The report consists of the Istanbul Bilgi University Internship Report Cover Page that is at Appendix 8, the text that must contain answers of the questions by the numbers as given under the title of "Questions Need to Be Answered during Internship" in this guide, and the attachments. E.3. The language used in the Internship Report must be chosen correctly; titles, sections, subsections and paragraph indents must be standard and in particular, attention must be paid to spelling and punctuation. E.4. Unnecessary information and documents must not be included in the Internship Report, while all the necessary information must be cited with reference numbers, which will be listed in the Appendices section. The appendices must not exceed 5 pages. This report is considered to be a professional report, therefore special care must be given to the use of clear and simple sentences, as well as the economic use of space. F. EVALUATION OF THE INTERNSHIP REPORT Acceptance of the internship as successful depends primarily on the following conditions: F.1. Reports that are not prepared according to the Internship Report Guidelines, which is on the previous section, cannot be taken into consideration. Template, organization and the other context of the report are taken into account in the evaluation. Departmental Internship Commission may request from students to rewrite some sections. F.2. After the internship is completed, the Intern Evaluation Form must be delivered by the institution/company latest by the start of the next semester registration period to the related academic department. The student is responsible for the delivery of the related forms in time and if it is not delivered in time, the student will be evaluated as unsuccessful for the internship. F.3. The prepared Internship Report must be delivered to the related academic department in 10 days after the the insternship is completed. The reports which are not delivered in time are not evaluated.

F.4. Students evaluated as failed must repeat the related internship for the next summer or interim period. Graduation and exit process of students, who do not accomplish the internships, are not made. G. REQUIRED TO BE ANSWERED QUESTIONS WITH GAINS IN THE INTERNSHIP Internship Report must contain detailed answer to the questions below. Other questions are prepared by the related academic department and released to the students via web sites, e-mail etc. QUESTION- Give information about the institution in which the internship is performed. (Up to 2 pages): a) Complete (Full) Name and Address b) A Brief History of the Development c) If any, Parent organization d) Existing facilities e)the numbers and classifications of employees. (worker, technician, engineer, administrative personel etc.) f) 1. For manufacturers; manufactured goods, production capacity, basic raw materials, materials supply method. 2. For service industry institutions; presented services, facility capacity.

In accordance with item (b) of the article 5 of the Law numbered 5510, the Workmen s Compensations Insurance premium of the students who will perform their compulsory internship will be paid by the University during their internship.
