Ülkemiz tıpkı kültür turizminde olduğu gibi kongre turizminde de kısa sürede marka ülke haline gelmeye devam ediyor. İstanbul başta olmak üzere Antalya, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Kuşadası nda bulunan kongre merkezleri, yıl içinde birbirinden önemli pek çok uluslararası kongreyi ağırlar hale geldi. 10 yıl önce Türkiye de 500 ve üstü kişiyi bir araya getiren uluslararası ölçekte 80 kongre yapılırken, 2012 de bu rakam 179 a, 2013 yılında ise 196 ya ulaştı. Bir başka deyişle, 10 yıllık dönemde büyük kongre sayısında yüzde 254 lük artış yaşandı. Bu başarı hepimizin. Birliğimiz tarafından hazırlanan Türkiye Kongre Turizm Raporu 2013, son on yılda başta İstanbul olmak üzere Türkiye nin bu alanda gösterdiği performansı gözler önüne seriyor. 2014 ve 2015 yılları için de şimdiden söyleyebiliriz ki önümüz açık. Türkiye de 106, İstanbul da ise 77 adet kongre için tarih alındı bile. Bu yıl için 49 bin delegenin yeri ayırtılmış durumda. 2014 yılında Türkiye nin bu rakamlar ışığında kongre turizminden elde edeceği gelir 3 milyar doları bulacak. Bu rakamdan İstanbul un alacağı pay ise 1.7 milyar doların üzerinde olacak. Bunlar büyük başarılar. Bu başarıda payı olan herkesi tebrik ediyor, Türkiye turizmi için yaptıkları katkılardan dolayı TÜRSAB adına hepsine teşekkür ediyorum. Distinguished Colleagues, Turkey is now popular not only for her beaches, sea, sun, but also for her history, culture and congress tourism. As in culture tourism, our country is rapidly turning into a brand in itself in congress tourism. Starting with İstanbul, the congress centers in Antalya, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa and Kuşadası have come to host numerous international congresses of great import. 10 years ago in Turkey there were 80 inernational congresses bringing together 500 and more people; in 2012 this figure rose up to 179 and in 2013 this figure increased up to 196. In other words, in this period of 10 years the number of international congresses has increased by 254 percent. This success belongs to us all. The 2013 Turkey Congress Tourism Report prepared by our association reveals the performance of Istanbul particulary and of Turkey shown, in the last 10 years. We can already anticipate that things are on the bright side for 2014 and 2015. The dates of 106 congresses in Turkey and 77 congresses in İstanbul have already been set. We have bookings for 49 thousand delegates for this year only. In consideration of all these figures, the income that will be generated from congress tourism in Turkey in 2014 will be at around 3 billion dollars. The share of İstanbul out of this will be above 1.7 billion dollars. These are significant achievements. Türkiye yi dünyada 21 inci sıraya yükselten talep, İstanbul u 9 uncu sıraya taşıdı. 2014 yılında Türkiye nin kongre turizminden 3 milyar, İstanbul un ise 1.7 milyar dolar elde etmesi bekleniyor. TURKEY CONGRESS TOURISM REPORT 2013-I REVENUES IN CONGRESS TOURISM EXCEEDED 2,5 BILLION DOLLARS The year 2013 for Turkey ended with 34.9 million visitors and a tourism income of 32.3 billion dollars. Turkey is now an attractive country for congress tourism as well. The increase in demand positioned Turkey as the 21 st most attractive country for congress tourism in the world and Istanbul became the 9 th most attractive city. It is anticipated that Turkey s income from congress tourism will be at around 3 billion and Istanbul will alone generate 1.7 billion in the same segment. Kıyı turizminde kişi başı harcama 600-700 dolar iken, kongre turizminde 2 bin-2 bin 500 dolar seviyesinde. In coastal tourism, expenditure per capita is at around 600-700 dollars, whereas it is 2000-2500 dollars in congress tourism. İstanbul, 500 kişiden fazla delegeye ev sahipliği yapan 113 etkinlik ile dünya kongre şehirleri arasında 9 uncu sırada yer alıyor. Istanbul hosts 113 events with 500 and more delegates and it ranks the 9th among the global congress tourism cities. Türkiye 148 bin delege ile yine aynı kategoride dünyada 11 inci sırada. With 148 thousand delegates, Turkey ranks the 11 th in the same category. 2004 2014 İstanbul da 2014 yılı için şimdiden 57, 2015 yılı için ise 20 kongre açıklandı. Türkiye genelinde bu rakam şu an için toplam 106. In Istanbul, the year 2014 has already 57 congress bookings and for 2015 there are 20 bookings announced. The total number for Turkey for the time being is 106. 2014 yılında İstanbul daki kongreler için 49 bin delege yerini ayırttı bile. Bu rakamın yıl toplamında ilk kez 100 bini aşması bekleniyor. Böylece, sadece İstanbul un büyük kongrelerden elde edeceği gelir 250 milyon doları bulacak. İstanbul un toplam kongre ve seminer gelirlerinin ise 1.7 milyar doları aşması bekleniyor. For the congresses in 2014, 49 thousand delegates have already made their bookings. This number is expected to exceed 100 thousand for the whole year, which will be a first time in the industry. Thus, Istanbul will generate an income of 250 million dollars from these big congresses. The total income from congresses and seminars in Istanbul is expected to exceed 1.7 billion dollars. Türkiye nin kongre turizminden elde ettiği gelir 2013 yılı itibarıyla 2.5 milyar dolar. Bu miktarın yaklaşık 250 milyon dolarlık kısmı 500 ve üstü kişilik organize alımların yapıldığı kongrelerden, kalanı ise daha küçük, yerel veya bireysel alımların yapıldığı kongre, seminer, fuar gibi iş ziyaretlerinden geliyor. Turkey s attraction now lies not only in beaches, sea and sun, but also in history, culture and congress tourism. The congress centres, mostly in Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa and Kuşadası host dozens of international congresses throughout the year. 10 years ago, there were 80 international congresses bringing together 500 people and above; the figure increased up to 179 in 2012 and 196 in 2013. In other words, the number of big congresses increased by 254 percent in the last 10 years. In coastal tourism the expenditure per capita is at around 600-700 dollars, whereas expenditure per capita is at around 2000 to 2500 dollars in congress tourism. This figure alone proves how attractive the congress tourism industry is for countries. The number of visitors for congresses, seminars and fairs to Turkey in 2013 was at around 2.4 million; the income from congress tourism exceeded 2.5 billion dollars. Venues are almost fully booked in autumn in Istanbul TÜRSAB s Turkey Congress Tourism Report 2013 reveals Turkey s and Istanbul s performance in this industry in the last ten years. The demand that positioned Turkey as the 21 st country in the world moved Istanbul up to the 9 th place in the list. Further more, the ever increasing demand indicates that the full potential for 2014 and 2015 has not yet been lived up to. Already, dates have been set for 106 congresses in Turkey and for 77 congresses in Istanbul. It is rather difficult to find vacancies at Lütfi Kırdar and Sütlüce congress centres in İstanbul for May, September and October. Bookings for 49 thousand delegates for this year have already been made. Based on these figures, it is anticipated that in 2014 Turkey will generate an income of 3 billion dollars from congress tourism. Istanbul s share out of this sum will be more than 1.7 billion dollars. TÜRSAB President Başaran Ulusoy has stated that in the last 10 year period Turkey has recognized her own potential and both the number of tourists and tourism revenues increased significantly. Ulusoy has also stated that: The increase in the share of congress tourism in recent years has played an important role in building this success. Türkiye de kongre turizminin gelişimini, yıllık 10 milyonu geçen turist sayısına ulaşan İstanbul un turizmdeki patlaması da destekledi. İstanbul, Paris, Londra, Roma gibi dünyanın önde gelen turizm kentlerine ayak uydurarak, çok zengin olan doğal ve kültürel potansiyelini ortaya çıkardı. 10 yılda yüzde 254 artış Kongre turizminde Türkiye son yılların parlayan yıldızı oldu. Kongre turistinin kişi başı harcamasının, kıyı turistinin harcamasını 3 e katlaması, tüm ülkeleri bu pastadan daha çok pay almaya itiyor. Türkiye, özellikle İstanbul ile kongre turizmi listelerinde hızla ilerliyor. Her ne kadar İstanbul da 2013 te yaşanan olaylar, bu yıl için gerçekleşmesi planlanan bazı kongrelere gölge düşürmüş olsa da uzun dönemli iptaller beklenmiyor. Nitekim rakamlar da bu tezi güçlendiriyor. 2013 yılı rakamlarına bakıldığında Türkiye ye kongre turizmi kategorisinde nitelendirilecek 2.4 milyon kişinin geldiği görülüyor. Bu rakamın bu yıl 3 milyon kişiyi aşması, toplam kongre turizmi gelirinin de 3 milyar dolara ulaşması bekleniyor. Türkiye nin bu alandan sağladığı gelir 2013 itibarıyla 2.5 milyar dolar. Yani 32.3 milyar dolarlık turizm geliri içinde kongre turizminin payı yüzde 7.7 seviyesinde. Türkiye de kongre turizmi pazarı henüz istenilen seviyelere ulaşmış olmasa da büyüme hızı göz kamaştırıyor. 500 ve üstü katılımcı sayısı olan uluslararası nitelikteki kongreler baz alınarak yapılan sıralamalarda, Türkiye nin büyüme hızı dünya ortalamasının 2 katı. Kongre turizminin büyüme hızı dünyada yüzde 6 ila 10 civarında seyrederken, Türkiye deki büyüme bu ortalamanın oldukça üstünde. Son 3 yılın verilerine göre, Türkiye deki kongre sayısında artış yüzde 22.5 olarak gerçekleşti. 2004 yılında sadece 80 kongre düzenlenen Türkiye de bu rakam 2012 de 179 a çıktı. Türkiye, dünya sıralamasında 31 inci iken de 10 basamak birden yükselerek 21 inci oldu. Avrupa sıralamasında ise 2004 te 18 inci iken 2012 de 12 inciliğe yükseldi. 2013 yılında Türkiye 196 kongreye ev sahipliği yaptı. Yani, 2004 yılından bu yana artış oranı yüzde 254 ü aştı. İstanbul 500 ve üstü delegenin katıldığı kongreler kategorisinde dünya birinciliğini 2011 yılında aldı. Dünya sıralamasında da 3 yıldır ilk 10 da yer alan İstanbul 2012 yılında 128 kongre ile 9 uncu sırada yer aldı. Istanbul has kept up with the world s leading tourism cities like Paris, London and Rome and it has unveiled its exceedingly rich natural and cultural potential. An Increase of 254 percent in 10 Years Turkey has been the shining star in congress tourism in recent years. Since the expenditure per capita in congress tourism is three times higher than the expenditure in coastal tourism, countries are tempted to increase their shares in this segment. Especially with the impetus of Istanbul, Turkey is rapidly moving up in the congress tourism lists. Although the political turmoil in 2013 has cast a shadow on events planned for this year, long term cancellations are not expected. The figures realised reinforce this argument. Based on 2013 figures, 2.4 million people have visited Turkey for purposes of congress tourism. The number of visitors for this year is expected to exceed 3 million and the total income from congress tourism is estimated to be around 3 billion dollars. As of 2013, Turkey s income in this segment is 2.5 billion dollars. In other words, the share of congress tourism in the total tourism income of 32.3 billion dollars is at around 7.7 percent. The market of congress tourism in Turkey is not at the desired levels yet, but the growth rate is quite remarkable. In rankings based on international congresses with more than 500 participants, Turkey s growth rate in this segment is two times higher than the world average. The global growth rate of congress tourism is between 6 to 10 percent, but the growth in Turkey is much higher than this average. Bu kısa süre zarfında Kongre Merkezi, 2 büyük kongreye ev sahipliği yaptı. INVESTMENT BROUGHT RECORD The 200 milllon TL investment in Kuşadası has brought a capacity record of 12 thousand people Kuşadası is the leading town which is on the rise in congress tourism. The Congress Centre investment in 2003 and KOMER AŞ, which was established for the management of the centre, laid the foundation for the Efes Congress Centre in Kuşadası in 2005. The amount of investment for the Congress Centre opened in October 30 2013 was 200 million TL in total. The Congress Centre has hosted 2 big congresses in this short span of time. Büyük kongre ziyaretçisi 80 bini aştı İstanbul un yükselişindeki en temel faktör kuşkusuz şehrin zengin tarihi ve coğrafi konumu. İstanbul a 3-4 saatlik uçuş mesafesinde olan 50 den fazla ülkede, 1.5 milyar insan yaşıyor ve bu bölge de 25 trilyon dolarlık bir ekonomi dönüyor. 500 ve üstü sayıda delegeli kongrelerde İstanbul a 2013 yılında 80 binin üzerinde ziyaretçi geldi. Böylece 10 yıllık dönemde ziyaretçi artışı yüzde 435 olarak gerçekleşti. Türkiye ye kongre için gelenlerin yüzde 70 i İstanbul u ziyaret etmiş oldu. Bu artış hızıyla birlikte, bu kategoride İstanbul a geleceklerin sayısının 2014 yılında 100 bini aşması bekleniyor. In the European rankings Turkey was number 18 in 2004; it became number 12 in 2012. In 2013 Turkey hosted 196 congresses. In other words, since 2004 the rate of increase has been more than 254 percent. The number of delegates increased from 71 thousand to 115 thousand. Turkey s position in 2013 is not yet clear, because the global and European lists have not yet been announced. However, based on available figures, Turkey is expected to be among the first 20. 2.4 million Turkish people went on business trips Apart from the international congresses with more than 500 participants, all other congresses, seminars, fairs and business trips create a much larger market. It is estimated that more than 100 million people in the world travel for these purposes. 2.4 million people in Turkey in 2013 have gone on business visits. Istanbul became first in the category of cities that host congresses with 500 and more participants in 2011. Having been among the first 10 in the last three years, Istanbul ranked the ninth with 128 congresses in 2012. Hence, Istanbul has outperformed Lisbon, Dubai, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Barcelona and Beijing. The number of big congress visitor has exceeded 80 thousand The greatest triggering factor in Istanbul s rise is beyond any doubt the city s rich history and geographical location. The population in more than 50 countries with a 3 to 4 hours distance from Istanbul is 1.5 billion and the trade value of this region is 25 trillion. In 2013 Istanbul received more than 80 thousand visitors for congresses with 500 and more participants. Thus, the increase in the number of visitors in the last 10 years has been by 435 percent. 70 percent of these people coming to Turkey has visited Istanbul. With this rate of increase it is anticipated that the number of visitors to Istanbul in 2014 will exceed 100 thousand. İstanbul s target is to be among the first 3 in Europe In 2011 Istanbul became world s number one in the list of congresses with 500 and more participants. Based on the total congress market, Istanbul ranks the ninth. The city s short and mid term target is to be among the first 3 in Europe and among the first 5 in the world. Apart from Istanbul, whose capacity of congress venues has increased by 3 times in the last 3 years, other cities are also willing to come to the fore in this competition. According to the Turkey Tourism Strategy 2023 report, the cities with a sufficient infrastructure for congress tourism are listed as: Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Konya, Bursa, Mersin and Eskişehir. Moreover, in many countries Father s Day is hooked together with many other celebrations and it remains in the background. While considering how to celebrate this year s Father s Day on June 15, let us have a closer look at this issue... The Mother of Father s Day! Like Mother s Day, Father s Day has spread to the world from the US. It was created by a young girl named Sonora Smart-Dodd. That is why she is called as the Mother of Father s Day. Sonora had lost her mother when she was 16. She and her five little brothers and sisters were raised by her father William Jackson Smart in a farm located in eastern Washington. Later in 1909, when she was listening a sermon on Mother s Day in a church in Spokane, she thought about acknowledging the significance of fathers in a similar way as well. The following year she shared her idea with the SpokaneYoung Men s Christian Association (YMCA) and with the support of the association its relations she was able to celebrate the first Father s Day on June 19, 1910. The day was later popularized in other places. Actually Sonora wanted to have the Father s Day celebrations on June 5, which was his father s birthday. However, since it took some time to complete the first preparations, those who assisted her opted for June 19.
